in my opinion to suspend not fire And here's why:

my take

1) Even though what Williams did was wrong, I don't believe he opened up a huge opportunity for liablility to university and that's always first in admin mind

2). Williams I believe is one of the top assistants here And up until this incident, what he's done on field and off has been big positive
Like most of other assistants he has more than already proved his worth in terms of teaching development and like others these guys are all a value add

3) related to 2..... I think the last thing his players and this team needs right is another loss and more instability. Many players already battled through coaching change last year and with Foltz still probably so vividly on their minds this would have been another potential devastating blow not to mention our overall program with potential recruits and commits beginning to rethink

Bottom line this was the appropriate amount of punishment IMHO and if I were Williams as well as any player on this team I would be more than willing to run through a brick wall for coach Riley and university based on their tough but very very fair decision to keep him with conditions

Thanks coach Riley and university top admin for doing the right thing and not overreacting
