Just spoke with 2018 Nebraska signee Xavier Johnson tonight. Here's the latest...
As of Wednesday night, Johnson said he had not asked for his release from his Letter of Intent to Nebraska.
Johnson will meet with head coach Tim Miles and assistant coaches Michael Lewis and Jim Molinari tomorrow at Bishop O'Connell (Va.) High School to discuss the future and just get on the same page with what's gone on the past few days.
I got the sense that big issue for Johnson and his family is the idea going to college so far away from home and now not having that "father figure" in Lincoln that he was going to have with Kenya Hunter.
If Miles and Co. can sell that the trust and family atmosphere is still there even without Hunter, I could easily see Johnson reaffirming his commitment to NU.
Another note: I asked Johnson if Hunter had talked with him about following him to UConn, and Johnson firmly said, "No."
