Enjoy it while you can. This looks like the last year in a while we'll have a quarterback who can run the ball. Yes, it will be nice to have a QB who can make a read in the passing game and throw an accurate pass. But still, I grew up with Nebraska running the option. It'll be sad to see it go (again).

I was not aware that we ran the option yesterday. I saw some zone read type plays, but zero option plays. I also don't recall any fullback traps. So what you saw last night was not what you grew up with, unless all you are trying to say is that you like it when the QB is also a runner in the scheme

The triple option is gone. No fullback for the most part. Zone read is still an option IMO. No option pitches in yesterday's game that I recall, but I expect there might be a few this year. With Tanner next year, a QB running in a zone read will only come if the defense is completely fooled. Even then, I'm not sure Nebraska would even take a chance with it.

I will settle for power running game. The option was just TO's passing substitute. Power running is still entirely feasible, especially if QB can make loading up on the run a losing bet. Keep the faith. Would like to see Tre running the iso and counter behind a fullback though. He is going to be fun to watch the next few years.
Also, remember what Tom said....You can run any offense you want and win if you play great defense.

End of era? Frank just get canned again? Ease up. Also I have no qualms moving into the future in order to win in this day and age. I tend to be nostalgic, but we have to let go.

Welcome to 2003. Yes it's really been gone.

I think what he really means is this is the last year - under HCMR - with a QB that can threaten the defense with the run. I have similar feelings. I watched the Louisville QB and thought how can we give up that kind of threat.

Well, I for one, want to see Riley run his offense his way with his personnel. To be fair, the OP did say option. He may have meant running/dual threat. I am nostalgic for the past at times. Honestly, I want to see what Riley can do with his personnel. I'm not saying that Riley will be the one to bring Husker football back to the top. I just don't think that you need to run a specific offense at NU to succeed. That is a myth.

How can we give something up we haven't had?

Joe Ganz? Zac Lee? Cody Green? Taylor Martinez? Tommy Armstrong? Ryker Fyfe?

Those are the last six Husker starting QB's, none of them were or are what Jackson at Louisville currently is.

POB will be more than capable of running an option and there is no way in hell we should have shown the whole playbook when it comes to usage of our fullback and the option. Use it when we need it. Keep Oregon guessing on how much time they need to spend on preparing for them. McNitt is not Janovich but we're recruiting one of the top running/pass catching fullbacks in the country.
