Now that we know what our class is, let's have a friendly discussion about certain aspects of the class.
To me, one thing that I didn't realize until this morning was: Not knocking anyone that we signed but my initial feeling is that we have at least one special player at each level on defense. Daniels on the line with Roberts at LB and Blades in the secondary. We have other talented kids, some of them you might like more and I get that but want to stress that I really believe we have added more talent on all three levels.
On offense, some of us might feel slightly disappointed, especially how close Nate came a year ago to saying we could end up with Lewis, Lindsey and Calvin but I don't see a single reach by this staff. I think we could see all three WR play and while I wanted another big body WR, I think McQuitty at 6'2 and KJJ at 6'1 are going to be awesome and will provide the height we want/need.
Between Jaimes, Sichterman, Bando and Walker in this class plus Brokop, Rairdon, Wilson and Farniok from 2016, I am excited about the talent and depth of the OL. Now the pressure is on Cav to develop this talent. Some people think Gates would be even better at RT, let's hope the staff can put together the ideal/best line so that Tanner Lee or POB can take advantage of the skill position talent that we clearly have.
September 2nd is a long way away and as much as that day excites me, I am looking "ahead" to the September 9th game in Eugene. I think we're going to see a much better team, in terms of speed and talent and with strength. Wisconsin looms on October 7th @ home and we all want to win that game badly.
We have other posts about your sleep pick in this class, so let me ask you all this: with the coaching changes the last few months, the upgrade at OL and overall talent, what's your take on 2017 and beyond. Are we one special class away from seriously taking that huge step forward and being nationally relevant? Do you think Nebraska now has the right pieces from AD down? What are you looking for in terms of recruiting in this next class? We all know how rich Missouri is with talent and with three very good recruits already "committed", is a top 15 class realistic, even with the class size possibly only being 15-20?
I like our schedule next year, except for Ohio State (@ Memorial Stadium but...)
I think we can beat Penn State, I do. They have talent but I think we're going to be a better team and much more difficult to defend. Spring Game is April 15th, hope it comes quickly.
