What happened to getting good at the basics first? I saw so many players trying to tackle ball carriers up high against Illinois. Blocking tackling all of the basics have to be mastered first. No one builds a skyscraper on top of twigs.
It makes me wonder about their practice habits. Are they not working on these things enough? Even the Pro's have to constantly work on the basics of their craft or it gets lost.It appears to me, and I could be wrong, that the basics were better at the beginning of the season and are getting worse. You have to look no further than the QB play. The first game TA looked off receivers, went through progressions, threw the ball out of bounds when needed, etc. Yesterday he looked more like last year. I assume that as it gets further from fall camp and the heat is getting hotter, players are unlearning some things that were taught.

Well, I was told by a former player who was at spring practice and said that the coaches were shocked at the lack of fundamentals and actually did go back to the basics with the players and had to work on fundamentals more than inputting of offense and defense.
Doesn't seem like that worked out too well. They should spend more time practicing defending Hail Mary passes.Well, I was told by a former player who was at spring practice and said that the coaches were shocked at the lack of fundamentals and actually did go back to the basics with the players and had to work on fundamentals more than inputting of offense and defense.
