Terry Wilson crystal ball for Nebraska

Terry Wilson is at Kentucky this weekend.... is he planning on coming in next weekend to see Nebraska?

I hope we land Wilson and Martinez but I think Gebbia wins the job if he stays. I just think the kid is the ultimate competitor.

Yeah, maybe it's contrarian to say this but I would rather see what a great passer and adequate runner would do in this offense to a adequate passer and great runner. Of course, if you can find both then you've got a real winner.

My guess is Lee is Corvallis bound. POB and Gebbia? They have both redshirted, and the NCAA hasn’t exactly been consistent about players’ eligibility if they transfer when a coaching change occurs. So who knows.
Lee has to graduate first and last time anybody posted anything about that he had some work to do to be able to do that by next fall.

I'm more concerned about Frost's staff assembling an offensive line that's at least mildly interested in blocking someone. Until that happens, whoever is playing QB will struggle.
Our O line wasn't terrible in pass pro at the end of the year and that was with the opposition knowing we couldn't run the ball. I think a new coach and better offensive scheme will help our O line tremendously. JMHO.

I wouldn't put much stock into the play of our team the last half of this season. Riley was a lame duck, and the team simply quit.

It was 2007 all over again. 2008? A new coach rallied the troops and we had a pretty good defense that led to one of the best we ever had in '09 with supposed 'soft' players just 2 years before.

Things can, and will, change quickly.

Bingo. We have been told Frost is a better coach, and a thousand times better person than Blo. That's why the moving of the goal posts is just sad

Gebbia could have pretty much went anyplace in the country. If he stays he's going to be the guy. I don't care who Frost brings in and what style he plays. Gebbia is a stud.

Could be wrong, but from what I've heard and what I saw in the Spring Game, Gebbia seems like he's the real deal. To do what he did with the 2nd and 3rd string guys was more impressive than what Lee and PO did IMO. I think he has enough mobility to be very effective in Frost's offense and has the "it" factor that you can't necessarily quantify.

When do we have the past participle conversation? I could have gone/went there earlier, but I would have run/ran into problems with posters who don't like grammar/grammer Nazis. I don't want to get beaten/beat up.

Anyway, assuming Lee goes pro or grad transfers, the possible QB chart could look something like this:
Sophomores — Wilson, O'Brien, Bunch (walk-on)
RS Freshman — Gebbia
Freshman — A. Martinez

Bringing in both Martinez and Wilson actually just populates the QB room with enough players to develop both competition and depth. Certainly 2018 will be about learning, no matter who wins the position, but long-term, we'll have quality depth 2019-2021 (assuming no one else transfers, of course). How long has it been since we had four or five QBs who could play if needed?

Doesn't say anything good about the players if this is true.

And a number of guys that quit in 2007 played their asses off in '08 and '09.

Suh was a nobody before '08. Phil Dillard had no heart and was just a 4* scholly-eater. Amukamara was a DB/RB or wherever he was supposed to play. Matt O'Hanlon was why we supposedly got beat by Va Tech in '09, but was one of our best and most unheralded defensive players under Pelini.

Everybody recruits high school studs. I know we are all fans of the 3 to 4 to even 5* star guys, but many times a lot of "want to" means way more than ability.

Just give us some "want to" on defense. I'm not asking for much from an FBS P5 football scholarship player to "want to".

Didn't Gebbia's high school team run 4- or 5-wide all the time? I'm not saying all 4- and 5-wide sets are the same, but it was a pretty open offense.

Plus as someone else pointed out in another thread, Gebbia was the point guard on his high school basketball team, so he's not lacking athleticism.

Yes, Gebbia's high school ran a shotgun spread offense. But more like a Washington State spread offense rather than an Oregon offense - I don't think they ran read option. So the biggest question will be if Gebbia can learn to run the read option, and if he's durable enough to take a lot of hits running that offense.

Just going through semantics, so jump in when I'm wrong:

Callahan
: His first real recruiting class in '05 he landed the savior named Harrison Beck while some little heralded JUCO in Zac Taylor also filled out that same class. Thankfully Taylor could throw a forward pass after incumbent Dailey struggled through the '04 season.

Pelini: Cody Green was the supposed savior this time in his 2009 class. Somehow, an ATH guy named Martinez started for 4 years in his place. Arguably, the best QB he ever had was an unheralded 2* recruit from the previous regime named Joe Ganz.

Riley: In his first real class in '16, he landed POB while starting incumbent Armstrong for 2 years. 2nd class he landed Gebbia along with a little known transfer from Tulane, so who knows what will happen here, but the likelihood of a newbie coming in and starting at QB in the 2018 season that isn't currently on the roster doesn't seem to be all that likely.

People need to come to some kind of reality that Lee, POB, or Gebbia will almost certainly be our starter next year in a "Frost" offense and that it is highly unlikely that Frost and crew will land a meaningful QB in the next 2 months.

None of us know what is going to happen, but it seems fairly apparent that Frost isn't comfortable with the QBs we have on campus right now running his system.

Who cares if he could have went anywhere. Milton was offered by Navy, Army and UCF I believe and I would take him over any qb on our roster. I think Gebbia has a solid chance of starting, but it’s funny to proclaim him the starter based off offers.

Lets put ourselves in the shoes of the players. Less than midway thru the season it becomes pretty obvious that the coaches are lame ducks. In addition it is obvious that the staff is not making good decisions about personnel and play calling. There are no obvious team leaders to rally the troops. What are they to do? Becomes almost impossible to make oneself work hard when the game they love has become harder than school itself and a job most no longer having fun playing! Before questioning the players and their want to put yourselves in their shoes. Keep in mind all the factors in the equation! Not so easy to put out full effort every day in practice or while playing the game!

It was very much like Wash St and Gebbia usually had at least 3 guys wide open...if he ran it was never a designed run and more of a scramble. That team had zero run game at all

I love how people write off our current qbs, like Frost never throws the ball.

I wonder if any of you realize what he does in the passing game. Milton had more yards on passes 20+ yards down the field this year, than any other qb since they started keeping track of that stat.

Some of you need to do your homework. It's not like his qb runs every play. And btw, reading an end or backer on a zone-read is not rocket science.

Until Gebbia gets his weight up past 119lbs, he’s going to be the guy everyone talks about but never actually plays.
Gebbia right now is an Alex Henery clone.

Your nonsense is sad. How long are you going to keep on with this stupid shtick?

Which is why I questioned whether Gebbia is durable enough to run Frost's offense. It's not his athleticism I question, but his toughness and strength.

It's going to be a lot different than Calabasas High, where he had like 4 D-I WR recruits running wide open all the time. Beau Davis put up similar numbers in high school.

No but the opposing defense respecting the QB keeping the ball when the DE crashes is part of the equation.

You mean believing Frost has what it takes, and refusing to use excuses? I am guessing I will keep doing it. You can keep doubting the new staff if it makes you feel better.

GTFO with this garbage. You are already questioning and bitching about everything he does and attempting to set up a narrative to make him fail, it’s just stupid. You seriously plan to do this forever?

Can’t mive the goalposts: Pelini won this many games and it wasn’t enough, so SF has to win more now. You didn’t like when Riley called this play on third and two, so you must protest when SF does it. It was a problem when Callahan brought in too many QB’s so Frost better not do it. Solich had to replace assistants when they didn’t get results, so SF better be made to do it too. Blah, blah, blah

What exactly am I questioning and bitchiing about that he has done? I will be waiting eagerly.

I’m done. I’ve been on this board since the Solich days and I’ve never ignored a poster until now. It’s a new day, I guess

In other words, you have Jack shit. Way to throw out shit without any merit.
Only thing I questioned was the Davison hire, and even that I can see why they did it.
Keep throwing crap against tbe wall, maybe it will stick. Now run along and ignore me, because you cant back any of your crap.
