Tennessee coaching search updates (Currie fired, Fulmer hired, Pruitt update post # 356)

Does anybody know the story behind Bret Bielema’s buyout? Sounds like their board of regents only wanted to pay him 5-6 million, his actual buyout should’ve been 15.4 million, and they settled on 11.8 million...did Arkansas have something on him that they could get the buyout reduced like JM from Florida or is there just some vague wordin in the contracts that are signed that leads to some ambiguity?

Bo was a terrible hire. No HC experience, horrible disposition, poor role model, stubborn, marginal in-game skills, and average recruiter. Especially since Patterson was available and wanted to come.
Terrible is what we just had...Bo won 70% of his games, and we had three decent chances to make a BCS bowl...our 2009 team was probably a top 5 team at the end of the season. All of his worst traits appeared after he was no longer supported...post-2011. Our program saw massive growth in a 3 year period...and then everything we feared about him came true. He could have just as easily looked in the mirror and pointed the thumb, changed his demeanor, modified his recruiting, and opened up to the fan base...it didn't happen. In no reality could Riley have won over the last three years.

Tom said, "Bo's paranoia had to be managed.". When your head coach is a paranoid schizophrenic, he's not a good coach. He should have never been hired but when the money talks you listen.

I don't understand the cult of apologists who still worship at the drooling baboon's idol. Bo did a good job meeting the minimum nine-win threshold, but he did it by being a miserable prick who thought the media and fans were the enemy. The mere fact that Bo hired his cokehead nutjob brother as a coach says all I need to know. And for those of you who think Bo Pelini and Tom Osborne got along, or were close, think again. Tom wanted Bo to fire Carl after Carl started diddling the wife of a booster, and Bo told Tom to go eff himself.

From what I read, it was reported to be $6 million but was always way higher. The university never bothered to correct it and the media was took it as truth and didn’t follow up to verify. Probably due to all the other craziness.

You are a psychiatrist now? Bo Pelini was not, and is not, a paranoid schizophrenic. You post some of the dumbest things on this message board.

But yet TO gave Carl a great recommendation to Florida Atlantic Laughing

If you go back and look at my posting history, you will see that I hated Bo, wanted him fired immediately after the A@m game for his treatment of his players and the way he handled himself. I danced in the street the day he was fired, and expected his north star routine. But over time I have come to realize that a coach also needs to be supported by his athletic department, and his boss changed mid-regime, and was worse than him. Maybe the worst hire ever in the NU Athletic department. New coaches often need managing in one way or another. Urban Meyer nearly died at Florida, Sark nearly drank himself to death, Bo was a very talented maniac. And as far as I can remember there was a very small minority against his hire, and that group had shrunk to none by the Arizona game 2009. That day he was a good hire, then he was a good hire. Just not a long term one.

Well the schizophrenic comment is questionable(mostly he was Mr. Hyde and not so much Dr Jekyll. but there is no doubt he was paranoid. Your idol Tom said so.

based on the Daily Nebraskan article? Meh. That stuff goes on on every college campus in America.
He might be referring to Green being involved or included in an email chain trying to cover up the harrassment of a student that had a booth for a club/group that she was promoting. One of the protesters/harrassers was a UNL employee.

The email chain was discussing ways to handle it including letter to editor campaigns among other tactics to support the employee who had been suspended but still on contact.

No direct evidence that actually implicates Green in this but his email was included in the chain.

Thanks. So what did he contribute to the suggestions to prop the prof up? Our poli sci and English departments have been nothing more than socialist liberal think tanks since the 60s. Frankly I get all kinds of group emails that I don't read. Maybe I better start looking at them more closely lest somebody hatch some evil plot and I get incriminated. It's hard to imagine he would be stupid enough to participate in something like that but if he was....well. I know him and like him but....As long as the football team wins he'll be okay.Winking

I can't provide anything to that. You won't find much news anywhere on it because it isn't what the news media wants to report because it doesn't fit the narrative.

I have heard the most about it by listening to KFAB.

As Chancellor, from my interpretation, he was involved in the original discipline or lack thereof, of the employee. News of the incident got out and because of pressure from the public they had to do something so they suspended the employee. Due to contract and union, employee can't be terminated. After contract length, then a decision can be made one way or another. Sounds like a few regents weren't too happy.

It's unfortunate because I really like Ronnie Green. Sometimes in a buearacracy things don't make it to the top and some mid level manager handles it and it bites you in the butt. Especially in a"protect our own first" mentality.

All of his worst traits appeared after he was no longer supported...post-2011.
Just to correct one piece of this: Bo told the fans on a hot mic to go "F*ck" themselves in the middle of the 2011 season, after the Ohio State game that year. So, the worst of his traits appeared as early as 2011, not post-2011.

And the TAMU game that he lost all semblance of sanity at was 2010.

Exactly. Poor conservatives who had their feelings hurt will just have to get over it.
Ronnie is not exactly a lefty. I don't know for certain but from talking to him I would guess he didn't pull a lever for either Bernie or Hillary in the primary. IF he had anything to do with it I'm sure it was a matter of him trying to find out what the hell happened. It's his job. The Daily Nebraskan is not exactly a reliable source. One of their reporters was the one who asked Mike Riley how it felt to be fired at the press conference.

I hope that DN reporter got a talking to.
