Tenn stud QB transferring

Watch out for SMU or Texas Tech. Even Oklahoma State might be in the mix. All have billionaires who like sports backing them.
Sounds like Texas tech is happy with their QB . Haven’t heard any noise on SMU , Boone Pickens is dead and his kids don’t give money like he did.

I know do not contact usually means he knows where he is going. I'm sure there was no tampering though. Or maybe he doesn't want every team under the sun contacting him.

I would say he has found a home. Because it sounded like his reps contacted every team under the Sun before the portal opened. It will come out shortly.

Just a bad deal for everyone involved. They need to make some rules for these NIL deals. Contracts like the NFL so these kids can't just jump for more money every portal season.

eveeyone knows Tennessee is screwed, that's what makes what they did so admirable....but we'll see what happens after the portal game of musical chairs is done. They could snag a good one yet.

I also feel like Heupel runs a system, where a lot of qbs can be success running it. Heupel himself is a biproduct of such a system at OU. All the milquetoast QBs that went through there and won heismans or had huge #s.
And Heupel was the worst. I have nothing against him but his OL and WRs were insane and he is IMO one of the worst heisman winners of all time. No one threw prayers up in the air off his back foot more than him, and his WR would go make a play. It's what he was supposed to do and he did it well, but not heisman worthy

He didn't win the Heisman. He finished runner up to Chris Weinke. Then Oklahoma shutdown FSU in the Orange Bowl 13-2, and one of their LBs was quoted as saying we came down here to get our boy's trophy or something like that.

Ya Heupel won every other national player of the year award besides the Hiesman in 2000. It was less than 100 votes and L. Tomlinson from TCU got 4th . He probably took enough votes away in that region with Heupel.

Wanting the money is certainly understandable because the 2025 crop of qbs signed for up to 4 million. Until there are actual legal contracts it makes no sense to trust coaches or universities who can simply stop paying you if you aren't successful. The entire situation is so fitting of the corrupt nature of the sport with everybody screwing each other over and attempting to save face in front of fans and media. Like Tennessee couldn't spare 2 million for their starting qb?

I’m sure they could.

It’s how he did it. The hold out is bullshit.

Allegedly had skipped many contracted events and was out close to $500k just for that. I don’t think Tennessee had much choice if they wanted to save face with the rest of the big NIL players who were meeting obligations.

Bingo. He could’ve gotten more money from UT’s collective/donors if he would’ve handle these negotiations like a reasonable adult. He may not have gotten the 4 million he wanted, IDK, but he likely would’ve gotten a better deal. Now he’s gonna play for UCLA who will struggle to make a bowl game for a 60% salary cut.

And you can bet your ass that Nico’s camp will do everything possible to keep his new NIL numbers under tight wraps. No way they want the public knowing he’s making less than half what he was getting from UT.
