TANNER LEE ?

Going to be tough. He is a typical pocket passer. That doesn't seem to have a place in Frost offense. Don't know if he has done enough for a NFL team to take a shot either. Unfortunately his playing days might be done.

If I recall, he is set to graduate so he could in essence be a graduate transfer to another program. I believe there are a few schools out there in need of a good starting QB.

I like Tanner. Seems like a very accurate passer and a great leader. Unfortunately, he's just not a fit for the offensive system being deployed. Kinda unfortunate for him, because this happened at Tulane as well.

I just don't see him winning the starting job. His best option is graduate transfer. I think he would end up trying to sign a free agent deal and getting on a practice squad in the NFL if opts out this year. Don't see him getting drafted (I know there are some reports he has a chance for last round pick - but I doubt it - that many INTs and Pick6s is going to scare off most teams using a pick).

Fans seem to want him to move on. I think that's a bit crazy, seeing as he's the only QB on the roster with any real playing experience. Yes, the offensive system will change, and it may not match his strengths. Whether he wins the job or not, I think the team would be better off with him on it. A new head coach, new offense, and redshirt freshman starting QB doesn't normally lead to a lot of wins in college football.

If Frost signs three quarterbacks, including a JUCO guy who runs his system and can execute right away, then maybe the situation changes. Right now that is not the case.

It is in his best interest to move on IMO, and I'd bet he feels the same way. I'm not trying to push him out the door, but if he could go to Oregon State and start, that would be his best option if he hopes to sniff the NFL and potentially make a roster spot.

Does anyone know for sure that he is "set to graduate"? When you transfer schools, not all of your credits tend to transfer...... It is an interesting situation for sure.

Let the boy compete, you never know what is going to happen. I hope all of our QBs stay and compete for the starting job. Competition is what we need.

I have no actual information on his academics... but don't forget that he also had to sit out a year at Nebraska in 2016 after his transfer... so he should have had plenty of time to get caught up if some of his credits didn't transfer from Tulane. FWIW, Tulane is a good four year university so it shouldn't be an issue either way. Bigger issue is if you are trying to transfer your 30 hours of theology credits from Incarnate Word

Jim Harbaugh needs a QB.
UM’s QB situation is bad but Brandon Peters is the starter there (until his concussion a few weeks ago) who, you may remember Langs was recruiting. We ended up with Gebbia that cycle. McCaffrey is redshirting this season and they have a big time QB committed. TL would’ve had a great opportunity there in 2017.

I think the MR to OSU thread answers this question. I would be shocked if he didn't transfer there. And more shocked if MR didn't take him - although that would tell you all of his praise of TL this past year was a lot of bull.

Not following... how does Riley praise equal bull if Lee were to transfer there? Riley does have a history of putting QBs in the pros. He could do well there. Not a lot of wins, but could improve his stock...

By the time Tanner has to make that decision I think he will know how many we are signing.

He also has a history of not putting QB's in the pros.

They got paid, right?

How many QBs did Osborne put in the league? Solich? Callahan? Pelini?

I would imagine the list of coaches who have put 3 or more QBs in the league is a pretty short list.
I think Osborne was the OC for Tagge. For sure Humm, Ferragamo and Mauer. Seems like there was somebody else. Did Luck get a cup of coffee in the NFL? Jeff Quinn was a backup with the Steelers for 2 years. Berringer would have been drafted as high as the 2nd round some analysts said.

I think the question with all our QB's has to be decision making. Scotts offense requires a quick decision maker who is very accurate, ala Milton. Can a QB on our current roster be taught to make those quick decisions and throw strikes in the process? Along with the defense, that's what I'll be most interested in watching.

Gebbia sure looked that way in the spring game.

“Seems like an accurate passer”- LOL

You mean Bruce Mathison? He lasted about five seasons in the NFL. Mostly carried a clipboard, but still a pretty good stint.
