QB coach and ESPN analyst George Whitfield
“He’s one of those rare guys that you don’t have to spend any time on throwing mechanics,” Whitfield said. “He’s one of the purest passers I’ve been around. He’s still working on things — like touch — but in terms of throwing the ball, he’s teaching tape for youngsters. We just filmed everything he did his last couple times down here and we’re cutting that up to use for our high school kids to say, ‘Look how efficient he is, look how functional he is.’ ”

Yes please.

Hoping like heck he's got the moxie to go with it.
He has the moxie. He has been in battle with an outmanned line; where he had to stand in and go back out; he was basically the only choice. He has been outstanding everywhere since, camps and our practices. No offense to Tulane , many here worry about our o-line -
for Tanner it may seem like he is going out there with tanks.

He's also going to be facing cruise missle DE's, not the pellet guns coming at him when he was at Tulane. I hope our oline can give him more of a chance than they gave tommy/ryker

It is nice to hear experts compliment the starting QB on mechanics for a change. He even went so far as saying they show clips of Lee to high school kids on how exactly to throw. Far cry from some other guys we have had. BTW, not to beat a guy who has been crapped on a lot, I remember this video some guy made a few years ago that still makes me laugh. I liked Taylor Martizez, but he had the ugliest throwing style of any guy we have probably ever had. Then again, they can throw underhand for all I care if they can throw a high percentage. Lets try and get that for a change.

it's all hype.. 53.6% average completion and 108.6 rating (compared to a 53.3% and 128.3 rating from TA)

2-8 in 2014
3-6 in 2015
Yeah, Tulane had a terrible OL.

Wait, um.. well, winning 6 games is going to be a nice jump for him in 2017.

I haven't looked in a few months, but I think Tanner had a couple games of 33% completions at Tulane, and that drags an average down quickly. I would attribute that to an O being overwhelmed, rather that mostly fault a qb who has generally gotten rave reviews since. Leading me to believe, he can be greater than a 60% passer; as reported for practices and scrimmages. You have put some nice things together in the past - could you find a way to look at things this way? Just hate to throw out mostly red Koolaide, in the thought he has improved so much with age. GBR

his RB averaged ~3ypc his last year at Tulane. His first year in the NFL he was averaging over 5 ypc. He was asked by the media how he could break so many tackles. He replied, I had to learn that at Tulane because I always got hit in the backfield. Tulane had one of the worst O lines in college football. Tanner Lee will be just fine and I can't wait for him to silence the dipshit trolls.

Nikki's just playing here, I would guess. It took me a LONG time to figure him out because he doesn't use sarcasm at all in his posts, leading you to believe that he is serious.

If I were a betting man, I would say he's having some fun. Mostly.

TLee percentages in games played, rounding to nearest:
2014 - 50 54 47 40 78 69 69 54 58 49
2015 -57 47 59 58 55 71 33 48 41
Interesting factoid - his worst %% throwing game (13/40) was against Diaco's UCONN Huskies.

Make sure you have a huge glass of water when you eat that crow later this year...

Hoping Lee does great, but not holding my breath since he was in a pretty tight competition with a RS freshman who has never take a snap in a college game.

I'm being contrarian in this thread.. while everyone else is eating up articles and talking about winning a million games, I just thought I would bring things back to earth.

For sure @dockentwo this isn't meant to be taken as a huge dig against the QB. If you put TL behind a great system, he will likely do okay.

It was to allow some of you to draw the parallel between what happened at Tulane, and what could easily happen here this year.

Our OL is full of young guys that haven't really played much, and a line coach that might deserve some criticism for the way he does things.

No stud RB to help out the QB. Another failed RB by committee type thing. (does anyone remember how bad our run game was last year?)

So basically, we look a lot like Tulane.. maybe a few better receivers.

I understand people don't like it and want to drink the koolaide.. but do you really think we are just going to go 11-1 this year when we have the same blueprint as the Green Wave?

Edit, my fiance has scolded me saying I am bad because I am ruining your dreams and crushing the spirit. My apologies for that.

We have 4 guys on the OL that started multiple games last year. We are missing Dylan Utter. And while the offense wasn't world beater level, it was good enough to win 9 games. When did Tulane win 9 games? My opinion is you took being contrarian to a whole new level and your argument loses credibility. You are taking thing to the opposite end of the unrealistic spectrum.

Here's the thing tho... I don't see many people at all saying 11-1... a few maybe, but not many. Most are saying optimistically 10-2, or more realistically 9-3.

I suppose the frustrating thing is that there are a ton of experts who are high on Lee and all you are doing is being Lee Corso, not so fast...

But you're probably right, we haven't seen Lee be successful anywhere, and he only had one offer out of HS, so he sucks, no matter what football knowledgeable people say... because Nikki says so.

This. Take this Oline group with another year of experience, better luck with injuries, and something to prove. It ain't the Pipeline, but will get the job done for the most part.

I'm going with 15-0

Or maybe that RS freshman is as advertised and is that good.
Would that be too much optimism for you?

I'm noticing a trend, Honeypot. Comparing a non power 5 team with Nebraska your paper thin contrarian argument loses credibility.
I thought this was a thread about Tanner's mechanics, like red dog pointed out we haven't had a quarterback with this skill set in a long time.
You "draw parallels" where none need to be made. Did you see the spring game??
Totally different skill set and the offensive gameplan will change dramatically because of the new skill set. Torpedoing threads to be a contrarian serve no purpose but your own. Your fiancé is right you would do well to remember that even once you tie the knot. Mazel tov, Honeypot

Ok so what is the likliehood that is true?
How many RS freshman outperform vs how many struggle and how many outright fail?

Our last 2 full time starters? Throw in Eric Crouch as well...

Just sayin...

You are asking a question that has no answer.
Naww i just asked it to someone who doesnt know.

Hope Lee can hit 60% and has minimal turnovers... that should lead to a decent year.

It's actually pretty silly to assume RS freshmen can't succeed... college football is full of them... johnny Manziel, Lamar Jackson, jameis Winston, Vince Young, Tommy Frazier as a true freshman, the kid out of Alabama as a true freshman this year, USC QB this year, Rosen from UCLA last year... should I keep going?

Edit: I'm so embarrassed... all I can say is it was 12:30 when I posted this and I was tired. TOMMIE Frazier.

My bad.

OK.
I'll play.

That would be me.
Since I don't know the answer and you do what is the answer to your question?

That really wasn't your question now, was it? You asked if any were successful, and I mentioned quite a few. Forgot to mention Michael Vick, Bernie Kosar, Jamelle Holieway... so to answer your original question, there are a lot of redshirt QBs who have had success. There is plenty of evidence out there to suggest POB pushing Lee is not the end of the world, like you fear.

Just enjoy the ride, if you can.

Edit: after rereading your question, I see that you did ask success versus failure. I did the first half for you, if you want to know the rest, that's up to you. if you want to count the number who weren't successful, be my guest. I'm not gonna waste my time on this exercise. Then you can compare the lists and share with us your findings.
