TA May Not Play?

There was some speculation that TA probably wouldn't be healthy enough to play in the bowl game *before* the Iowa game. He certainly didn't look good at Iowa and probably shouldn't have played.

It would not surprise me in the least if he's not nearly ready for the bowl.

Heard the rumor that he was done after the Minnesota game, but I just ignored it hoping it was all Bull..
Quess there was more truth then what I wanted to believe.

Fill sorry for TA.

There were plenty of folks he who thought he was going to walk back on the field for Iowa just as he had after OSU and be almost no worse for wear.

This should be POB's third straight start, instead...it ain't.

They weren't going to pull his shirt for Iowa, and clearly they didn't feel they needed to with Fyfe's preparation with Maryland.

I did do some poking around with one of the young guys at work whose sister plays at NU and runs in those circles. It sounds like POB didn't want to pull the shirt late either.

Armstrong is Nebraska's only hope for a bowl win. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Tennessee will eat Ryker Fyfe alive.

I want whoever is healthy to play. I don't want to trot TA out thinking his mojo is going to translate into some sort of offensive production, only to watch us go three and out most of the game because he can't run and YOLO's are it.

If Fyfe has to go down swinging, so be it.

This post is almost poetic.

No one can tell me there isn't someone more to the "concussions" and Zach Darlington. There is no way he could be worse than what we put out on the field for quarterback.

I get that all we have seen with Darlington is the Spring Game and some High School film. What I saw in that Spring Game is enough for me to know that he could not have been any worse.

I totally agree. The Vols are very athletic and Fyfe would really struggle. Hope the OL will finally be healthy and we can pound the rock by committee. Maybe we'll even see the return of Ozigbo? He was big against UCLA.

Fyfe couldn't beat Purdue, of course he'll struggle against Tennessee. Let just hope 3 weeks of practice gives him a better chance.

6 or so weeks is probably enough time for the fracture. Especially since it isn't his key appendage

If it was his throwing hand, 6 weeks would be nowhere close to being enough. With His non-dominate hand....taking him out of cast would still be pretty risky. Fractures don't heal in 6 weeks.

I think they need to run Darlington out there for the bowl game ala 1990 Tom Haase. We got killed that game, but Haase played decent if I remember. Hand the ball off a ton, and let Darlington do what he did so well in the spring game. Roll him out and dink and dunk stuff all over the field like he is freaking (gulp) Chase Daniel. He did that very well in the spring game. Ryker is a known quantity. He is an oak in the pocket that don't throw a very good ball.

Ugh... Please don't let me get too embarrassed after paying this much for tickets, going all the way down there, and being in their home state.

I was surprised TA played the Iowa game, but I'm guessing the same thing happens. They will give him time to heal up, but come game time, it will be Tommy that trots out there, not Fyfe.

Amen... go with whoever is

If the game is a disaster you can leave at half and head over to thee Grand Ole Opry. Marty Stuart is headlining and might sing his hit "Cry Cry Cry"

Gotta make lemonade out of lemons sometimes.

This can't be. I've been told by Iowa fans that Tommie was fine when we played them.

To be fair, there were many on here who said the same thing that he would be ready. Clearly they were wrong. It is always nice to hear people speculate on other's health.

Whats your opinion of Not starting TA; that there is no one else? People keep going back to the Purdue game to run their game; lots of interceptions and completions. Last time out he threw some very good passes; nice comments on it by announcers - we have a good system that can pull him through.

I don't think people realize what even a slightly pulled leg muscle can do to you, let alone one that was pulled so badly that it may have been partially torn.

Tommy has my respect, because most players couldn't have done what he did in playing in the Iowa game. Clearly, it made a difference in his performance.

No doubt True. So many here speak in absolutes. Ryder has had his positive moments; hope he really brings it. How many of you got rich betting the field to win The B1G championship - vs Mi or OSU taking it ? Stuff happens, people show up and play heroically. I hope TA doesn't play, he did his thing; the team needs to back next man up - there is talent there.

From what I have read from MR he hasn't said it is a done deal that TA doesn't play. However, each day that goes by hurts TA with preparation. This is not like missing a game in mid-season. Ryker will likely get the nod, there are not much other options. The 16 practices give Riley and company time to consider alternate plans and to get others ready but there are limited options. This is one of those games where running the ball and controlling the LOS is going to be a premium both ways. We can no longer get away with a good effort at the LOS and having better play behind them.

More to your question, Ryker will be fine. They will bring the house against him and he doesn't operate well in that situation. If I am the opposing team I have someone coming on every play until they guess right and spring a long one or two. I am not sure we have the ability to adjust to a constant barrage. JMHO
