Surprised he didn't get picked...A. Green

McKewon has been pounding that drum since the draft started. Slamming the star ratings. Funny thing is he never mentions the percentages of each rating to get drafted.
There are always blowhards thinking they know more than the recruiting services, yet they never offer their own rankings.

Probably because he did not get a combine invite.

He might be able to find a role somewhere, but he doesn't have great measurables for an NFL back.

He was a highly rated 4 star. Not trying to nitpick but plenty of people like to bump player rankings to make their point. Same thing with Lindsey.

He might have been 5 star on one of the recruiting sites, just not here. But your point still stands. That's kind of a dipshit thing to say, especially when a ton of Ohio State recruits, who were all highly rated got drafted.

Right, you may have been able to find some service that rated him a 5 star, just like you may be able to find one that rates Lindsey a 5 star right now. Thing is, I don't know what that service is or if it's reputable at all. When I brought this up previously, a poster linked the 247 sports composite ranking - yeah, he is a 5 star. But he is a high 4 star according to Rivals, Scout, and 247 - so who is ranking him a 5 star and are they any good?

Aaron Green was a 3 star on scout (http://www.scout.com/player/121678-aaron-green?s=73), a Top 100 4 star on here, and composite 4 start on 247 (http://247sports.com/Player/Aaron-Green-2435). I have no idea who rated him a 5 star and I'm suspicious that McKewon had any service in mind. I think he chose the number 5 instead of 4 because it helped make his point, but he didn't need it to make his point. Just like people now don't need to call Lindsey a 5 star to convey that the coaching staff, and Williams specifically, are kicking ass on the recruiting trail.

True, but Lindsey has a good chance of getting bumped to a five star on Rivals based on where he is ranked right now.

Agreed. My complaint is entirely based on our adjusting the details to fit our narrative and not at all representative of my excitement over Lindsey or where I think he ought to be ranked. I realize he is just 2-3 spots away from being a 5 star and may eventually earn the ranking. Whenever we're getting serious attention from Top 250 players I get pretty excited, and I'm thrilled when we're getting the attention of Top 100 prospects. This year has been awesome so far!

I agree completely. I think going into a discussion of recruiting rankings one should stick to one set of rankings for all recruits. Furthermore, whether Lindsey gets a fifth star or not really has no bearing on how good he is. The difference between the number one wideout and the number five wideout is pretty marginal most years. The Randy Moss types don't come around very often. The fifth star matters more for prestige, I guess.

Yep same old argument we get every year.

So many people can't figure out simple math that says very few 5 stars per year. Come out on rivals

there are a ton more players who are 3 stars so of course more numbers Hundreds and hundreds vs typically only 25-30 per year rated 5 stars so of course more 3 stars will make NFL team or be drafted but typically much higher % of 4-5 stars will which means the rating system is valid. Not perfect but it has 60% or 65 % hit rate on 4-5 stars who at least pan out as good college players which is higher than 2 or 3 stars

I would love if somebody someday could also take injuries out of equation too. That shouldn't count against any rating system whether they were correct on a guy or not

All you have to do is look to Ohio state who recruit tons of 4 and 5 stars may have 16 drafted. Bama also proven as well as USC under Pete Carroll that stars matter most of all if u want NCs.

Then of course 2nd u need a competent coaching staff but the best urban meyer types of staffs of the world will never win NCs at bowling green or Utah etc Boise etc. The best they can do is wins bowl game when teams like OU or Bama are bummed to be there because they recently had their NC hopes dashed.

It's always a combination of things but I guarantee if people could compile a list of 3 4 and 5 stars who are also being offered by Ohio state Bama LSU OU usc Ucla Clemson etc there would be very few misses.

But you simply won't win at high level consistently recruiting 2 stars and walkons nobody wants in Div1 major conference

In other words a high 3 star that bama and Ohio state both want from Ohio or Tx or FL or ca should rank higher than a 5 star from Nebraska or Iowa who has few offers elsewhere
