One out infield single to 3rd for Placzek. Meyers with a single to RF as Placzek goes 1st to 3rd on the play. Miller walks the bases loaded. An E8 allows Fish to make it to 1st. Miller to 2nd and both Placzek and Meyers score!!! WP advances both runners to 2nd and 3rd. Alvarado K's. Mike Waldron flies out to the warning track in LF.

Bottom 1st

Matt Waldron gets the start on the hill. One out walk for MSU. Next batter K's. Single through the right side, runners on 1st and 2nd. RBI single to RF, runners on 1st and 3rd. Another RBI single ties the game, runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs. K ends the inning.

Lots of pitches for both starters through 1 inning: Waldron 34, Mockbee 27. Probably gonna get into the bullpen early in this game if they don't have some efficient innings soon.

Well, Mockbee improved his efficiency, 11 pitches that half inning.

Hopefully Matt can respond similarly.

Waldron with 13 pitches that half inning. Improvement, but up to 47 pitches through 2 innings.

Bottom 2nd

2 out single through the right side for MSU but is then picked off to end the inning.

Bottom 3rd

Leadoff single to start the inning for MSU but the runner is then caught stealing and the next two batters go down in order.

Top 4th

Leadoff single to LF for Fish. Alvarado grounds out to pitcher Fish advances to 2nd. Waldron flies out to RF. Schlepp lines out to SS.

Bottom 4th

One out infield single and he advances to 2nd on an E1 (failed pickoff attempt). Bunt single puts runners on the corners. SAC bunt moves the runner to 2nd and scores another. Ground out to 2nd ends the inning.

Top 5th

Rev with a leadoff single up the middle! Boldt singles to 1st and Rev is out because the ball hit him so interference was called. Placzek K's. Meyers grounds out to SS to end the top half.

Mockbee with 10 pitches in Top 5. 70 total. Arms are warming in both their bullpen and ours.

Too bad that Boldt play hit Rev in the ankle, could have been 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd with no one out. I think that's the second time it's happened this season.

Rev with a leadoff single up the middle! Boldt singles to 1st and Rev is out at 1st (not sure how it happened since I'm updating on stats alone right now). Placzek K's. Meyers grounds out to SS to end the top half.
Boldt got credited with a hit as the play was definitely going through the right side, but it hit Rev in the ankle so Rev was out on the play.

Similar to the error in Top 1 when Fish was credited with an RBI on what should have been a sac fly given the depth and the runner on 3rd would have reasonably been able to tag and score, but the OF dropped it.

Bottom 5th

One out solo homerun to RF. Next batter grounds out to SS. Single through the left side. Fish throws the runner out at 1st after he took too big of a lead.

Waldron with 15 pitches in Bottom 5. 91 total.

Heckuva play by Fish to end the inning.

The last couple plays the radio guys have mentioned "on the hill" or "up the hill" in the outfield. What's the deal?

Mockbee with 9 pitches in Top 6. 79 total. Really rolling, career outing (I think they said his previous high was either 4.1 or 4.2 IP).

Their park has a slight hill in the outfield that represents the warning track. Not sure if it goes all the way around though. May only be CF/RF.

Seems strange in a D1 ballpark. Charming maybe?

I thought the way Werner Park bows in in right-center was strange.

Bottom 6th

One out infield single for MSU. Groundout to 3rd advances the runner to 2nd. Meyers with a great play in the right center gap to end the inning.

Mockbee with 14 pitches in Top 7. 93 total. Has retired 8 in a row.

Palkert comes in for NU.

Bottom 7th

Robbie Plakert now in to pitch in relief. Leadoff walk but the next three batters go down in order

Mockbee done for the day. Longest outing of his career. (He was their closer until a few weeks ago.)

Top 8th

Leadoff Infield single for Boldt! Placzek K's looking and leaves Boldt hanging out to dry as he's tagged out stealing 2nd. Meyers K's to end the top half.

That was quite a disappointing Top of the 8th after Boldt got on with a leadoff single. Radio guys were really going off on Placzek for watching a full-count pitch go right down the middle of the plate. Boldt got thrown out at 2nd on the play.

Bottom 8th

Back to back to back 2 out singles but the lead runner is thrown out at home to keep the score at 4-2!

Sounded like quite the one-hop throw from Meyers to Fish to end the 8th and keep the deficit where it's at.
