Some ugly numbers unfortunately. I'm not a big summer league baseball follower normally so not sure the level of competition they all faced. West has some good numbers but my guess is he played in a lower league?

Summer league wood bat is a lot of fun - kind of like watching minor league baseball - usually lots of beer flowing and local small town fan support. I've seen games in many of the leagues: Cape Cod, Northwoods, MINK, California, Jayhawk, West Coast, etc. Competition is pretty even in all the leagues expect for Cape Cod which the premier destination for pro prospects. Luensman and Alvarado played in Cape Cod league for the Bourne Braves. The other leagues have fairly similar talent IMO. Northwoods plays a lot more games and does a lot of in-season cutting and adding of players but the talent isn't much different than the others. Mix of some D1, D2, NAIA, JUCO and even some D3 guys. West played in the Cornbelt league for Omaha team. New league with teams in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. I went to a couple of Cornbelt games and saw players from Creighton, SDSU, UNO, UNK, Wayne State, Augustana, etc. on the rosters.

FYI - Frazier, Klemke, Waldron and West were named to the All-Star teams their league.

West isn't listed on the 2017 roster.

I saw him play a couple of times this summer. Went 3-3 with 3 doubles in one game playing first base and also saw him pitch 3 innings. Had 6k's and was consistently 88-92 and touched 94 - looked very good with both FB and breaking ball. Talked to his summer coach a little after the game and he said that West would probably look to transfer because Erstad won't even look at him hitting or at first (probably because Miller and Schreiber are locks there - but they could both be gone after next season) and Silva shows little interest in getting him in the rotation. I think he was a late add last summer and Silva simply decided to do nothing with him - what a waste - especially given how our pitching staff performed at times last year. The summer coach was baffled - said he was a great kid who could play anywhere.

That's unfortunate.

Hearing stories like this where talent isn't getting used makes it very frustrating to continue to root for Nebraseball. Definitely could find a role for West somewhere in the lineup with what we have leaving (Schreiber to RF, Alvarado to 3B, West at 1B, something like that). With Chestnut graduating, middle relief is wide open (though Eddins and Hohensee may have something to say about that role). And with King and Knutson leaving, weekday pitching has an opening.

I wish him the best if he does decide to leave. It just seems like we could find a way to use him.

Looks like Connolly transferred to Iowa Western. With his summer numbers I think that was probably a good move. 7.06 ERA and 50 BB+Hits in 21.2 Innings.

WOW... this is depressing.

I like to see BA>.300 and only West and Henwood achieved that. Under .200 and IMO the coaches need to be taking a hard look at what they are teaching, who they are recruiting, and why they are on the team.

Pitching I like to see ERA<3.0, WHIP <1.2, and BAA <.220. Only Palkert and West achieved that. Looks like Eddins also had a nice summer with lots of innings and good results. His SO numbers aren't great but it looks like he is competing well.

I am not impressed at all with Silva's pitcher development.

Not sure how much stock you can put into summer stats...but one would hope that the coaching staff is already doing this considering how mediocre we have been under Erstad.
