Such an unfamiliar feeling for me and Nebraska football...

I really started following NU football during the early 2000's. I know it's been rough for all of our fanbase, but those like me who had to endure our decline and never experience firsthand the greatness around our program from decades past, especially the 90's, I'm wondering if this is a hint of what it felt like. There's a palpable excitment and yet, theres also a calmness. A calm that one gets when things just feel right and knowing you and the things you care about are in good hands.

It's like coach Frost says, the pieces are in place. They were always there to be utilized. We had a series of terrible leadership decisions but I stuck through just like the rest of us, hoping we would make a hire that would unify our fans, mend relationships and frankly, salvage NU football from trending towards a likely irreparable state. Thank God that day has come. This is not to say it will be an easy road ahead of us but it sure as hell feels good to be a Husker fan right now. GBR!

I agree. I was over in England until the Summer of 1998 and we couldn't ever watch Nebraska games. I watched the tapes my dad had (Decade of Dominance) and was excited to watch them back in the States.

Well, it was pretty fun up until the Colorado game. I still know where and when I heard that Nebraska was getting killed. It was such a strange memory as I heard it first hand from my friend as I was walking up his driveway. I thought, "How is that possible?". Now I am too familiar with blowouts.

We all what followed that game in Boulder:mad::oops::confused:

Now here we are, feeling fine. :)

Yes, actually it is a bit of the old feel to it. There is also a pre-mid-90s feel and a post as well :p After (and during) winning our 90s hardware, the fanbase certainly changed, and not really for the better.

Having grown up remember ing vividly watching the game of the century on my grandma's black and white TV during Thanksgiving and all the days of"break the wishbone" and looking forward to finally get my turn amongst all the cousins, this has been a long hard stretch. I ve seen all of our national championship teams and games. My kids will finally get their chance to see ateam to be proud of

This just tells me how ingrained being a fan is to the people of Nebraska and that is a good thing. In our dark ages fan folllowing and interest still remained high, there are not many programs that can say that. I think the fact that the fans stuck it out in the bad years means they will appreciate good years even more.

The program has a good vibe right now and I am pretty confident we are in good hands and good things lie ahead of us

Born in 70 and have been a die hard fan since (and I'll admit that my fandom was on life support this year). I have not had this feeling of excitement for at least 15 years. The past coaches all talked about doing things the "Nebraska way" and I wanted to believe them, but they obviously didn't know what that really meant. Now we have a coach who knows exactly what it means and I have full confidence he is going to reestablish the culture and way of doing things that made us so special all those years. That is why I wanted him over every other coach in the country.

Frost has the "IT" factor in spades and with his understanding of the Nebraska way the future is brighter than it has been in a LONG time.

People joke that Perlman killed Nebraska football, but it's a mighty big coincidence that ever since he stepped down the program has started heading into the right direction. The changing of the guard is now completed and we have a fresh new start with Frost, Moos, Green and Bounds. No weak links in that bunch and that's what it's going to take to bring this culture back.

I didnt joke about that - he set the tone for back stabbing politics and passing the buck decisions

Who is joking about Perlman? He single-handedly destroyed our football program. Almost as if he was on a mission to do so.

You’re a true fan if you just started following the team in 2000, at the beginning of the big slide, & hung with them while they’ve wandered the desert for the last 17 years. Kudos to you.

Well, some of us waited longer between national titles at NU :p Just sayin' :p I have to admit the football between was a lot better though.

Do you consider me a true fan if i grew up in Nebraska, was a die hard fan from 2003-2010, but fell off because I went to play college ball elsewhere, rooted for the huskers to fail under riley, but now I feel just as excited as I did as a kid with bill Callahan?

We aren't the fan police. The question is do you consider yourself a fan? :p

I believe the term is "fair-weather"? ;) If I didn't experience the 90s it would have been harder to hold on to my devotion as a fan, half way thru this season I'd all but given up but continued to watch every agonising play...it came down to, for me, if we don't hire Frost I'm going to spend my Saturdays fishing and hiking and watch the games recorded later on...I guess even at our worst I still watch.

I don’t get how you can root for a team to lose you supposedly once loved. But who am I to judge who Is, or is not a fan.

After all the numerous post Osborne disasters, our next national title will be that much sweeter.
