I have great seats in west stadium 16 rows up. I've had to give them away or get 5$ for them on multiple occasions over the past 30 years. During Osborne's reign I sold a ticket for 5$ to the NU vs KSU game when NU was ranked 2nd and KSU was undefeated and ranked 7th. During Pelini's tenure, I had multiple games where I just stuck TWO tickets in my pocket because I couldn't get 10$ for them. The sellout streak is a sham anyway and always has been.Great West Stadium seats for the NU-OSU game are half the price they were for NIU. That sellout streak will surely be toast next year.
The sellout streak has ALWAYS been a sham? I am handing out the door and won't be on here all day. But I would like to know your reasons for saying this. It is a narrative I have seen on here before. It has some validity I think, but there is also a rebuttal argument. Anyway... gotta runI have great seats in west stadium 16 rows up. Living in PAC country, the program that seemed to consistently pull upsets was Riley’s OSU team. Maybe he’ll bring his lucky Beaver along. Hmm, that probably could be misinterpreted. It's a good thing that upsets never happen at NU under MR. All we gotta do now is wait for MR to get our program to where he had it at OSU. Then we can pull upsets like this when we are 24 point home dogs.
Within 2-3 years we should be there. Can't wait! Can you imagine what it would be like to have the tradition of say ISU, Syracuse, or Cal? We are not far off from being those guys that can do that!
Back in the 70s even the AD had local businesses, (usually financial institutions) buy up any unsold tickets and give them away to customers or employees. The sellout streak has relied on fuzzy math for years. Technically the tickets were sold but I can guarantee you that there will be tickets held by season ticket holders who would like to sell them that will go unsold. The sellout streak has ALWAYS been a sham? I understand why NU wanted more lucrative skyboxes to keep up with the rest of college and pro football, but I thought the new East nosebleed seats were probably a bad idea, especially as we were several years into our current streak of mediocrity when they were added. (I have never sat in those seats but I suspect they would test my usual belief that most unobstructed sideline seats > end zone seats.)Back in the 70s even the AD had local businesses, (usually financial institutions) buy up any unsold tickets and give them away to customers or employees. True Statement.... Thank youTickets sold is not the same as tickets used. The last second tickets are purchased by corporations or donors for the sole purpose of keeping the streak alive. They may give them out to their employees, but some of them go in pockets or the garbage and simply aren’t used. Paid attendance vs actual attendance. The people selling the tickets don’t care if you actually show up, as long as the tickets are purchased.
Some people like the high up perspective but I thought that addition was a bad idea too. They have to be miserable in bad weather.I understand why NU wanted more lucrative skyboxes to keep up with the rest of college and pro football, but I thought the new East nosebleed seats were probably a bad idea, especially as we were several years into our current streak of mediocrity when they were added. Well I guess the corporations did "buy" them but it's still fuzzy accounting. Lots of them went unused or were given away to youth groups etc.So...not really a sham if they were sold. Key word in "sellout streak" is the word "sell" and regardless of who bought them, they were sold. Also no one has ever called it a max capacity streak. That's not really a thing. You think the Packers actually have filled every game since 1959 (strike year excluded)? Or the Red Sox had butts in every seat for their streak?
Again, its a sellout streak not a max capacity streak.
And as far as the donors go, we're not there yet. Every new season springs with hope that "this is the year". Then reality hits and you can't give away a ticket. Tom was Lucky that OU was always the last game of the year. I don't think we're close to the point where a new year won't bring some hope yet. IF we get to that point, a change would be made.Whether corporations or individuals bought them and then they went unused is not relevant. What is relevant is we are reaching the point where no one cares enough to buy them
I can’t imagine anyone buying those tickets unless they suffer from extreme paranoia re the secondary market. But of course it is another example of fuzzy accounting as it relates to sellout streak.Ticket office (not stubhub) has single game tickets available for all remaining games.

Why don't we and the media just stop talking about it and let it go away quietly so some day we don't have to see a headline "NU Sellout Streak Ends". Maybe it will help us quit living in the past and start some new traditions. There is no fuzzy math, if every available ticked is purchased you have sold out the venue and that is called a sellout. NU has sold every available ticket since Nov. 3, 1962. Two things have always been true my entire life: F-Series is the best selling truck and NU sells out every game.

Michigan State????Nebraska doesn't do upsets... no chance we win tonight!!!
Those teams each had 3 losses that upset top 10 teams and neither was ranked!
I bet both of their coaches are on the hot seat and just got lucky last night.
Maybe HCMR should want to play on Friday night so they can have a huge upset!

Link? Evidence? Screenshot of the thousands of empty seats?I think you’re over reacting a touch Pennsy.
I think the difference between us’ens and them’ens is that we are “selling” tickets to donors or businesses knowing full well they won’t be used, only to keep a streak alive. The revenue received from 500 tickets at $65 is a drop in the bucket. The interest in Nebraska football has been down for years. Blame Riley, blame Pelini, blame Eichorst, who cares.
The streak has been artificially extended for several years.
And yes, I am probably overreacting Tuco. It is what I do. Lol.I think you’re over reacting a touch Pennsy.

FWIW, I believe it’s 3 things, none of them Mike Riley.This.
Newsflash: every big time football program asks local businesses to buy up blocks of tickets. The idea that this is "fuzzy accounting" is bullshit. My wife is a ND grad and is good friends with people who own businesses in South Bend. Whenever she wants to go to a ND game she calls them for a ticket. Why? Because every year the ND athletic department blankets the local business community with requests to buy blocks of tickets. And most do. Some then resell them, some give them away to clients and vendors.
I know a guy who owns a chain of pizza shops near State College. He always has PSU tickets. Why? Because he buys blocks of them every year. He knows he will find people who want them.
Now maybe NU leans on people a little stronger than other places to keep the streak alive. So what? The fact is those local businesses comply because they know that there is still a demand for game tickets. They still can use them to reward long time customers and vendors because they know it is still something people value. This idea that businesses buy the tickets and then just eat them by the hundreds because nobody wants them is fabricated BS. If the tickets are sold by the athletic department, then they are sold. And selling all tickets is called a sell out. Try leaning on the local businesses in Lawrence Kansas to buy up football tickets. Guess what? That will fail. Why? Because nobody wants them.
In years past the biggest complaint I heard from Husker ticket holders was how squeezed into your seats you were. God help you if you had an end seat since half your ass would be hanging over. Or God help you if you were in the middle of your row and had to piss. Good luck squeezing past everyone. So a question: if the phenomenon of thousands of empty seats goes back to the 70's, then how come I rarely saw any? How come I was always crushed into my spot?
In 1985 my father put in for season tickets. He was on a waiting list for two years before he got some South end zone nosebleed seats. And the only way single game tickets could be found was if the opposing team returned them or you got them from a scalper or a friend. Anyone who says you could easily find cheap tickets for every game doesn't know what they are talking about.
What I sense here is an agenda from the "empty seats are no big deal" crowd. And it is simple really. We are being asked to swallow the idea that if thousands of fans do not show up for the remainder of our home games this year, that it is not Riley's fault. They ask us to believe that all NU coaches have had to deal with thousands of empty seats. They ask us to believe that the ONLY reason we have a sellout streak is because of bullshit lies and fuzzy accounting from our AD. They ask us to believe that even the great Osborne was lucky we played OU at the end, since an earlier in the season loss would have kept people home in droves. Please. And you know this how??? That is just BS revisionist history to suit a narrative.
This is pathetic and more than a little desperate. Trashing our program's history and our loyal fan base and one of our greatest traditions, just so you can protect your precious Riley and posture as a "smarter than thou" fan because you and a handful of other self-anointed "smart" fans claim to have "seen through" the bullshit of our athletic department. You guys seem more interested in protecting Riley than in upholding the legitimacy our traditions.
Thousands of empty seats at Nebraska is a big, big deal. Just ask Callahan. And if we get boat raced tonight and the stands are half empty to start the third quarter that is on Riley. Period. Stop blaming Pelini and open your eyes.
End of rant
You are correct in all of that. And so far, Riley has little to do with it. But this conversation got started when I predicted there would be thousands of empty seats tonight (and that IS on Riley), only to be told not to worry, that it is no big deal, and that this has been going on since the 70's. That is the context to my remarksFWIW, I believe it’s 3 things, none of them Mike Riley.
Basic supply and demand. We push the envelop. Last 10k addition went from equilibrium to excess supply.
HD tv and prevalent high quality broadcasts.
Greed=ticket cost . Puts even more pressure on supply and demand ratio
During Pelini's tenure some of the games I went to we had roughly a seat and a half per person in our rows. That's one advantage to bleacher seating. You may be short 10-15,000 fans in the stands but it looks full because they just spread out.Link? Evidence? Screenshot of the thousands of empty seats?

10 to 15...at the start of the Nebraska game?During Pelini's tenure some of the games I went to we had roughly a seat and a half per person in our rows. That's one advantage to bleacher seating. You may be short 10-15,000 fans in the stands but it looks full because they just spread out.
Give up. They don't want or need evidence. They have a narrative and they will stick with it. I asked Tuco for a link or evidence earlier and all I got was crickets in response. Of course we know how many tickets are actually scanned. And of course it is absurd to claim that we are routinely missing 10-15,000 fans. It really does smack of desperation. I don't mind if someone wants to back Riley. Dingle and Tuco and Archie have made very, very good arguments why we should. Heck, I even agree with about 80% of what dingle says.10 to 15...at the start of the Nebraska game?
You wanna back that claim up?
Because they have records of crowd size for every game you know. And that's not calculated by tickets sold that's tickets scanned.
Give me evidence. Season, game, attendance vs. capacity. Let's even put capacity at the highest attended game in NU history, 91, 585 vs Miami in 2014 (which is thousands higher than official capacity.)
Ready? Set? Go. Show me 10-15k short.
(Here's the part where you say 4th qtr.) and try to weasel out of it, but you obviously didn't mean that.
