Spring portal is open

A 112-word entry in the 452-page NCAA Division I Manual gives programs with new head coaches additional power to quickly remake their rosters. Known as 15.5.1.8 – or “Aid After Departure of Head Coach” – it allows first-year head coaches at a school to not invite an athlete back to the team but keep their scholarship as long as they stop playing and continue their academics. The athlete would then no longer count against a program’s total number.

Maybe this segment of the portal should be called ‘The Purge’ . It appears that CU, TCU and Texas staffs have had those conversations and are moving large numbers out. Buckle up!

Colorado would be the only one with a new coach, the others would just have to convince the kids to go portal they wouldn’t be able to cut anyone.

NCAA are bungling idiots, but that blurb is a great idea. I bet at least 3-4 guys stay here to finish their degree and just give up football.

I wonder if the school is still expected to pay living expenses minus the training table?

I don't think the floodgates for Nebraska will open until after the Spring Game and then the coaches sit down with the players, so probably about 10 days from today.
It will be a little easier for Rhule because he can take advantage of the New coach rules. I think most of the players have it figured out by now where the stand in the depth chart.

I would imagine anyone entering the portal this late will have trouble staying in FBS unless they are very talented. Lots of teams need to shed players and can't do much more addition.

However, I think Northwestern might have some opening if they can qualify academically.
