Spielman's status------I can't keep quiet anymore.

Spielman hasn't practiced so far this week due to a shoulder injury. He had a shoulder injury from an earlier game and the coaches had him returning kick-offs at PSU so the kicking team could run a 35 yard sprint before they hit him? There's at least several idiots on the coaching staff.

Agreed.

Well, we don't truly know the situation...

Maybe JD wanted to do it still... until that first hit that is...

Maybe the coaches felt desperate and wanted a spark...

Poor decision though for sure.

Coaching staff & players don't decide who is cleared to play and who isn't. Players are cleared by the medical staff, always have been and always will be. Nebraska is more than meticulous on injuries & will continue that with the next staff as well.

There's enough other stuff to be pissed at the coaching staff, this isnt one.

I think it's interesting that I never saw talked about on here, and if it was, I missed it; that Spielman's original injury was caused by what I viewed as a total cheap shot by an Ohio State DB. You can argue all you want about whether or not he should have still been in the game at the time, but that doesn't change that it was an unnecessary move by an Ohio State DB that caused the injury.

On the play in question, he caught a pass near the sideline and slipped a tackle by one defender and then immediately angled up field to gain a few more yards, but also to head out of bounds and stop the clock. The Ohio State DB, #21, caught up to him a few yards away from the out of bounds line, and Spielman kinda struggled with him to try and make it out of bounds. The OSU DB could have easily either shoved him out of bounds, or just continued hanging on and Spielman would have been out of bounds in just a second. Instead, he gains some traction with his feet and then jumps up with both feet and slams Spielman into the ground, directly on his shoulder, and you can immediately tell he was hurt. The jerkoff from OSU just gets up and walks away, like nothing happened. It was a totally unnecessary tackle, and should have been flagged (I would bet every penny I have ever earned and ever will earn, if the teams had been reversed, we would have had Six Flags Over Nebraska). If the DBs intent with this stupid move was to keep him from going out of bounds and stopping the clock, it didn't work because he still made it out of bounds, and the clock stopped for the injury as well.

He's Nebraska tough he wanted to play all of Kieths kids have played hurt. All year it's what Gorillas do. Nothing career threatening. It's probably a sprain or Bruse it will heel by next year. Nobody forced him to play. I know Beck forced Brion Carnes to play with bad high ankle sprain in a spring game once. Nonody thought bad of that decision then .

He hurt it on s reception not a kickoff So I guess your now the team doctor. Sorry but we're not coddling all the talent to play for Scott. He was cleared to play Riley on Monday said that JD shoulder wasn't serious but he would probably would not practice until late in the week and see how he feels. Basically if he chooses to not play it's his choice. Obviously it's not a serious injury or he would of said he would not play this week. Kid tuff he came here to play not wait for his sophomore year.

Barkley returns kickoffs for Penn State. So if using valuable offensive players in the return game is stupid, James Franklin must really be a bozo.

Hated to see Spielman get hurt, but as others have noted he just fell wrong on his arm/shoulder following a reception. That kind of play that will happen regardless of who is coaching.

I have no problem with them playing Spielman on kickoffs. Except.... Bradley actually looked better than Spielman, who I think has regressed as a returner. I think he focuses too much on "taking it to the house" and not enough on getting as much out of the return as he can. Just my opinion.

Just as Pierson-el has clearly regressed as a punt returner under this staff

They should wrap them all in bubble wrap and play 2 hand touch.
Lol at the idiots blaming the coaches for an injury.

Spielman hasn't practiced so far this week due to a shoulder injury. He had a shoulder injury from an earlier game and the coaches had him returning kick-offs at PSU so the kicking team could run a 35 yard sprint before they hit him? There's at least several idiots on the coaching staff.
Remember that time the tradition coalition ran Burkhead 38 times against Iowa on a jello-knee? Good times.

He wants to play, we are playing for nothing, and we suck. Why should he pack it in now?

I remember the 38th carry being a stupid snap-handoff-kneeldown to get him the record. And it wasn't a "record" immediately. They interviewed the game statistician in either the OWH or LJS, the play is typically tracked as a "team" carry, but the SID hovered over him with the statistician's manual saying that it can be counted either as a team carry or as a player carry and directed the statistician to count it for Burkhead.

Such a bush league record, and I don't blame Burkhead, it seemed when he was handed the ball that he didn't know what was happening. More bush league than Spielman's 6-yard catch on 3rd and 8 in a blowout loss to Ohio State to set the single-game receiving yards record.

Wow, some of the crap we try and blame the staff for. I get it, they have sucked this year and this team has been bad outside the pass game. But blaming the staff on DPE getting worse at punt returning is wrong. He got worse because of his injury/s. He either got scared or something like that. Wouldn’t matter who or what staff we had/got. DPE just lost that “IT” after he got hurt. Other then a few times where he seem to find that “IT” for a return or two.

Agree to a degree. The injury took away from the "IT" factor, but Bruce Read's punt return strategies looked like a fire drill.

He returned one kickoff and then Bradley came in to return the other three.

It was very obvious that he hurt his shoulder again after landing awkwardly on the reception. I don't know why he was playing after that. Sometimes the coaches just need to use common sense to prevent small injuries from getting worse.

In football people get hurt all the time and play through it.

All the time.

Yet another thing for people to blame the coaches for...

I remember the announcers commented that there were several tOSU tackles like that. Almost like they were coached to do it.

In football people get hurt all the time and play through it.

All the time.

This is awesome. People bagging on players for being soft, and bitching about coaches not pulling kids out that fight through things.
Jesus f-ing Christ.
