I think it's interesting that I never saw talked about on here, and if it was, I missed it; that Spielman's original injury was caused by what I viewed as a total cheap shot by an Ohio State DB. You can argue all you want about whether or not he should have still been in the game at the time, but that doesn't change that it was an unnecessary move by an Ohio State DB that caused the injury.
On the play in question, he caught a pass near the sideline and slipped a tackle by one defender and then immediately angled up field to gain a few more yards, but also to head out of bounds and stop the clock. The Ohio State DB, #21, caught up to him a few yards away from the out of bounds line, and Spielman kinda struggled with him to try and make it out of bounds. The OSU DB could have easily either shoved him out of bounds, or just continued hanging on and Spielman would have been out of bounds in just a second. Instead, he gains some traction with his feet and then jumps up with both feet and slams Spielman into the ground, directly on his shoulder, and you can immediately tell he was hurt. The jerkoff from OSU just gets up and walks away, like nothing happened. It was a totally unnecessary tackle, and should have been flagged (I would bet every penny I have ever earned and ever will earn, if the teams had been reversed, we would have had Six Flags Over Nebraska). If the DBs intent with this stupid move was to keep him from going out of bounds and stopping the clock, it didn't work because he still made it out of bounds, and the clock stopped for the injury as well.
