sounds like satellite camps are going bye bye

Reminds me of an article I read yesterday that was setting the stage for oil company bailouts because of the low price of oil. Interesting that is a one way street, kind of like the SEC. They have every freaking advantage one could ever possibly imagine, and the one teeny tiny little thing that might put a small dent in it, they do away with.

Unless something changed, there is no reason to think these camps are toast. SEC and ACC need more votes to get this changed.
Latest murmurs say they may have those votes. Hell Kirk Ferentz does not think they should be allowed.

That sucks for the kids.

Never thought of it like that but you are onto something here. There will be kids who might have gotten an offer from a program they might not otherwise get with the camp exposure. I imagine there will be some kids who fall thru the cracks because of this, kids who would have made great students and gotten a much needed free education and had a great experience. Yeah, that does suck for the kids. Not everyone is good enough to get an offer from LSU or 'Bama, but maybe somebody like Purdue would be glad to have them and otherwise never would have seen the kid.

Exactly, see DiCaprio Bootle.

That was actually one of the justifications used for them...sure it is only half the story but it is none-the-less true. The thing is it is not only to the benefit of whichever P5 school is the visiting sponsor but the majority of the coaches in attendance are actually from non-P5 schools, FCS, etc. Whichever school is the name school is the draw but the majority of kids who get offers get them from smaller programs which they might not have been exposed to otherwise.

This is beyound stupid, most of the talent is in the florida, Cali and Texas area. SEC, ACC and Pac 12 teams are right there and the families who arent well set can get them to the schools but cant afford to get them to the Big 10 and other conferences. If this bothers SEC and other conferences, then branch out and do the same, come to Lincoln, Kansas and what ever other states and hold free camps. See this bothers them because they know this will open the doors to this kids and give them a chance to get a bond and exposure to other schools besides LSU, Bama, Florida, Georgia, and these other schools who just set there and enjoy the talent thats around there.

And of course Io_s coach would be against it because those kids wouldn't dare go to his school but could end up at Nebraska or other schools he plays and he doesn't want those teams having said talent.

The ACC and SEC own the territory but they know that outside Alabama no team in either conference has bigger brands than Ohio State and Michigan.

I sure scandal after scandal after scandal is fair though..

The NCAA doesn't have the balls to dig up any dirt and punish these SEC teams but if they had no one would be surprised at all the dirty stuff going on in that conference, that says a lot right there.

Well, poor $EC. Their advantages of warmer weather, deeper talent pool, zero academic standards, oversigning by a half class every year, paying top recruits to play, having e$ECpn $*#&ing their #@#& twelve months a year, etc is not enough to overcome the huge advantage the BiG TeN gets from this nefarious satellite camp deal!

When I retire, I'd love to get a job as an investigator with the NCAA. Doesn't appear you have to prove much to stay employed.

It seems that they only do enough these days to save face and that's about it. No conference is innocent nor is there a team out there who is completely innocent but I think the NCAA is truly afraid to get involved with taking on the SEC and the programs in that conference are aware of it.

Fine, implement these 3 things and satelite camps can be shelved.

Official visits allowed as soon as a player begins his junior year.

2 parents/guardians are allowed to accompany the recruit on the school's dime.

Early signing period in august/september of their senior year. (I liked Bo's proposal better but it wouldn't pass. This is a compromise) - schools who accept early signings are locked in with that recruit... recruits that sign early are locked in unless the school in question makes a change at the head coach position before the final signing period.

Do those to counterbalace and its fine.

I'd like to also see either a hard limit on unofficial visits allowed per month per school or if left uncapped allow recruits travelling more than 500 miles for an unofficial to apply for a travel voucher from the ncaa to be paid by the school. (Not giving a free trip but a cost allowable one)

I thought I read Iowa holds three such camps a year.

I think they are one of only a few Big Ten schools to do it.

From what you linked and what my Iowa buddy told me he is against the way satellite camps that are ran like Michigan's and what Harbaugh is running...

Like it says Iowa has had satellite camps but they want them running by their staff and not by outsiders like NFL coaches.

I don't think you can get that from what I linked...though he's acknowledged that they've used them recently, he specifically said:

Me personally, I’m hopeful — and the NCAA will probably react — my personal preference is I’d like to see camps probably be limited to campus.

Edit: Bolding was from the article, italics and underlining was my addition.
