I've been on the board for over 10 years but rarely if ever post, but I thought I would maybe share this insight that I know. I don't want to say where I got this from, but I was told when Pledger and his Mom visited this summer for Friday Night Lights they asked Reggie Davis some questions about how we use our running backs...apparently the OU coach has told the Pledgers they like to have "feature" backs that get the majority of snaps rather than a running back by committee approach. The OU coaches used the examples of all the "feature" backs that have come through there the last 20 years. Coach Davis at NU told the Pledger's this summer at Friday Night Lights that they will use up to 3 backs in a game and throughout the season. Pledger's Mom seemed to not like the idea of that approach as much as the "feature" back approach and she said the she was going to have to talk to Coach Davis and Coach Langsdorf more about the offense here and the way we use our RB's....

I guess my question that I'm beginning to wonder...you don't think the shift in the way we have been using our running backs this year has been partly a recruiting tool to show Pledger that he can come and be a "feature" back here at NU? In past years we did the committee approach and this year Riley came flat out and said, "We are going to use one back until they need a sub." Do you think we would shift our strategy in running backs to help in a recruiting battle? I guess this could be Riley playing a game of chess while we all are assuming its checkers. Thoughts?
