We will soon be in another transition as far as the coaching staff goes.

You can see it plain as day. There were numerous times that Riley was on camera yesterday with his hands folded across his chest, others where he was staring at the ground with his hands on his knees. He is done and he knows it. I don't mean at NU, I mean he knows his career is over. We have lost 4 of our last 5 games in embarrassing fashion. Ass kickings. And the one win was not inspiring at all. He knows it is not ending the way he wants but he can't do anything to stop it. He knows that at his age there won't be time to adjust and turn things around. He made his last move with hiring Diaco, but knows that he did it too late and that he kept Banker too long. But the worst move was retaining the OL coach and it will prove fatal now that we don't have Tommy's legs to make up for the OL shortcomings.

The reason this is so bad is because the team takes on the attitude of the coach. I coach youth sports and I see it ALL THE TIME. If the coach is a screamer/complainer then you see kids start screaming at each other and the referee. If the coach doesn't care, the kids lose interest. Considering that passion and the desire to win are the two main ingredients for a good football team it is easy to see where the 2017 Huskers are headed. The team has limped into games and shown little energy in trying to match and overcome the intensity of its opponents. (outside of Parella, who by no coincidence coaches two of yesterday's best performers, the Davis brothers.)

Now the question is do Nebraska fans have it in them to sit through another transition?

Additional thoughts....The OL plays like we have a mobile QB who will run out of trouble and extend plays. I hope POB and Gebbia are ready to go because Lee is going to get injured soon. Farniok tried to murder him yesterday. Is it really that difficult for at RT to understand the DE is going to speed rush your right side? Coach Cav needs to be put out to pasture. Speaking of Lee, he is an utterly miserable 0-2 when driving with the game on the line. Some is on Langsdorf and lots on the OL but we have had 2 chances to drive to win or tie and we haven't even moved the ball into a threatening position.
Wilbon is a shadow of Bryant.
DPE is shot. Too many injuries and now mistakes have destroyed his confidence. Replacement needed.

Great post.

Nebraska OL is awful and has been bad for years. This is such a confounding, consistent theme with the current program where Nebraska has a history of high caliber units. Makes no sense.

So what starts to make sense is seeing these things for what they are and that is a failure at all levels. Chancellor, AD, HC, Assistants. Bad decision making. It's a disease. Successful people don't continue to make bad decisions. Our string is going on 20 years.

running a pro scheme.. I've seen tOSU, PSU, and UM struggle running pro schemes in the last 15 years with more front line talent and recruits than UNL has.. look at Stanford.. unless your QB is elite with elite WR's it's a death sentence in college football. Changing schemes like that is drastic, and would take Bama a half season to adjust to a new system.

Your O was decent.. your D was killing you, so your coach figures he will handicap you even more? Mike Riley had one decent team full of JC guys that would have made LAST CHANCE U proud.. he was 14-34 with the Chargers out here in San Diego, including a 1-15 stint.

If you are in flyover country your formula for success at this point is to score points and hold your breath while you play D. Oklahoma State would be a good model, they recruit in the 30-50 range but develop talent well. Les Miles would be horrible, you won't get the talent to out tough 11 buys on each side of the line of scrimmage like LSU does/did.

I'm not going to throw our defensive unit under the bus. Fact is we are in transition there and they actually shown some improvement. The HUGE problem is this OL. Just seems like they're still built more for the running game. I too think they are brainwashed into thinking there's still a running QB back there and expect him to run out of problems. One can understand that since that's all we've had for the last 8 years! I think they are trying to the best if their ability but Cav isn't doing them any favors. If Lee had started out with decent line play in front of him, we'd be seeing that gunslinger with all the potential to head to the next level. Unfortunately he has been rattled and lost his confidence before he had a chance to gain any traction here. I've been concerned about OL recruiting for years. We can bring in all these stud QBs, DBs,WRs, etc, but without a talented OL your football team ain't gonna get it done.

To the first point, I agree it is inevitable that this ends badly. Starting 0-3 against directional schools in YEAR THREE is an obvious sign. There is no way the program is suddenly going to make a 180-degree turn and start cranking out championships. Whatever they have done in terms of recruiting, player development, etc. is not working. They don't make the rankings go down that far, but Nebraska must be ranked about 85th in the FBS right now. Will we be the worst team in the Big Ten this year? It is yet to be seen. Whether Riley is fired this year, next, or the one after that. It is going to happen. Unless 6-win seasons become the new goal.

The 2 GLARING problems on this team as of 9/16/17 is Offensive Line. It's OFFENSIVE in all ways possible. Bryant needs to be back there totting the rock. If Bryant is missing again the offense will be lucky to score any TD's. I hope the Freshman RB is as advertised in practice because Wilbon and Ozigbo are not getting it done to take the pressure off Lee. The running game sets up the passing game, and the passing game sets up the running game. Without one you can't have the second.

Not fair to say Ozigbo can't get it done, he has two carries on the year.

Without a doubt the biggest problem on the team is OL. We keep missing on recruits. If it's going to be this bad then might as well go young and let the red shirt freshmen play.

We've got enough talent. We're just making WAY too many mental errors. We cost ourselves multiple first downs on offensive penalties in that first half. We would make a big play and then it would get called back time after time.

This exact post existed when Callahan and Pelini were canned and it was 100% accurate then and 100% accurate now.

It has been so long since we had a well coached, disciplined team that didn't blow its own head off multiple times per season I almost wouldn't recognize it if it ever happens here again.

If he was getting it done practice he would be on the field! I don't know if he is hampered by an injury or what, but the coaches are not happy with his performance. I was hoping when he had a chance yesterday he would play with a chip on his shoulder and punish some defenders.... He has the size, but apparently not the attitude. I like him a lot.

Coach Langsdorf is incredibly stubborn and he doesn't want Ozigbo anywhere near HIS offense. Devine is a team player which is why he's been very professional about this and not running his mouth. It's that simple.
