So, the Pelini Cornhusker basement story is made up, eh?!?

Actually, I am heading out the door and will be gone through Christmas. Heading to the airport in Philly now. Christmas in Rome this year. So I don't really have time to devote to this right now. But thanks for the offer!
Merry Christmas to all

The Majority of the fan base understood why Bo had to go. Just like the majority of the fan base didn't agree with Eichorst hiring Mike Riley as the Next Head Coach...

Simply we thought we would be getting a better hire than what we ended up with, and after 3 years finishing 19-19, Pelini 9 and 10 win season's look pretty good now except for a handful of games that were butt kicking's that embarrassed our program.

If Bo is such a good coach, why does his name never come up in any coaching vacancies? Tennessee went through about 15 names in the most leaky and frantic search since Steve P. hired Callahan. And Pelini was never brought up as an option. Look at all the coaching hired over the last 3 seasons, Pelini was never a candidate.

Always the measure of a coach..... his next job after getting fired

I have never understood the obsession with posting inside information. I really do not want to know the dirt on the program, In the end this is entertainment for me and I see no entertainment value in stalking coaches or players let them be is what I say.

I could also care less who is sleeping with who or even that a coach knocked up a cheerleader.

This part of the fan base that enjoys this kind of gossip needs to get a life

Get a life, says decade+ message board poster.

What was the Philadelphia question? Did he think Tom Hanks deserved an Oscar?

He's a big Liam Neeson and thought he should have won with his role in Schindler's List. Please understand that both Dirk and Liam "have are a very particular set of skills. Skills they have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make them a nightmare for people like Bo and MR"

Considering this writer has used the sources information over the last several years, including the most recent "Philadelphia question" during the press conference, your speculation is just that, speculation.
Weird stuff goes on, boys. The saying "the truth is stranger than fiction" exists for a reason.

While we're on the subject of fun facts, girl I used to work (and mess around) with lived with her female cousin. Cousin was a UNL student and was "dating," of all people, Bill Bush. He was only about 20 years older than her, decent work if you can get it. I didn't agree with his taste at the time but maybe by the time I'm in my 40s I'll get where he was coming from.

Isn't this board an amazing place? You could sit a dog in front of some of these posters and say, "This is a dog," and they'd demand proof.

Pics or GTFO... JK

Bill Bush was always a hell of a recruiter and I guess it showed off the field too. Was it James Franklin who required his assistants to have hot wives? If there's any truth in that logic, I think we are finally in good shape

Do you really think a writer like Dirk, who writes for one of the major news outlets in this state would jeopardize his job and reputation by writing something like this without verifying its validity first? Good grief, the denial in this thread is unreal.
It show how pitifully delusional Pelini fans were and are. This is how Bo operated here. He terrorized or tried to intimidate people.

Bo’s problem is he acted like he was Nick Saban and you can’t do that if you are going to have a guaranteed four losses every year, many of them non competitive. It gets old after 7 years.

Why hate on Bo? Especially when you once worshipped the guy.

Bo had his faults, for sure. He is a hothead. His brother is a crackhead.

But he can coach. Period.

Bo not having answers on defense to stop what he knew was coming at them means he is nowhere near the coach you say he is. Period

Oh ... And he is a psychotic POS

That's precisely what you do here.
Really please tell me where I gossiped. look i really do not care to get into a pissing match with you but here is the issue. Our fan base has a certain segment that feels it is their god given right to know everything about coaches and players alike. Maybe it is that way at other schools also but it is certainly prevalent here.

For me I could care less about about their private lives I am just concerned about having fun watching the team I follow and have followed for many years. Never have I posted anything derogatory about a player or coach that was not on the field related.

I find that the thrill some people get about knowing every dirty dark secret and then being able to tell others as an "Insider" on a message board - creepy

That's what we're all here doing to some extent. Get over it.

It certainly sounds like something he would do. He could also turn it on and off like a light switch. He flipped his lid on my son who was reffing his kid in a soccer game. Then after the game my son went and talked to him and he was just fine.

He did something very similar at one of his son’s bball tourneys in MN.

He was banned from the Doris Bair softball complex for going off on umpires when his daughter played there. Perspective he does not possess.

On a side note, there is one "Pelini-Incident Story" that has been made up and embellished over time throughout Husker Lore.

When Bubba Starling chose to sign with the Kansas City Royals, Bo and Coach Cotton did NOT go to Bubba's Front Yard and scream profanities at the Starling family. There have been numerous claims about "NEIGHBORS" witnessing this behavior. That's amusing considering the Starling's lived on an acreage, 2 miles West of Gardner at the time. Their nearest neighbors would've needed a telescope and one of those boom microphones used on the sidelines to hear action at NFL games in order to witness and hear an exchange. Bo never even showed up that night.

Bo did chew out the Kansas City Royals because they tried to intervene with Bubba's workouts while he was in Lincoln that whole Summer. In fact I'm fairly certain Bo actually screamed at a Royals trainer while in a conversation with Bubba. That story got back to Peter Gammons who reported it, and the rest of the rumors took off.

Now... Bo always brought this type of perception and rumor mongering on himself. He has the Emotional Maturity of a 12 year-old. Those stories were always easy to believe because Bo often exhibited maniacal and irrational behavior.
But they witnessed it! It must be true. In the fifth grade, there were two girls who witnessed I was the one who stuffed up the toilets. If only I had known they were there to witness it, I wouldn't have done something like that.Laughing

Mark Mangino was escorted out of a Lawrence High School football game because he was screaming profanities at an official... from the sideline of his son's HS game. More than 5,000 people witnessed Mangino actually push the cop away. Literally any other adult male would've been arrested in that situation.

I once had a nasty confrontation with Frank Solich. My girlfriend was driving us to lunch on the UNL campus. We were going south on 16th Street on campus, and he nearly hit us coming the opposite direction (16th was bi-directional on the north end of campus by the HSS dorms). He had crossed over the center line a few inches. Actually, he missed us by probably eight feet. It seemed like less at the time. I'm not sure Frank could actually see over the steering wheel.

I also nearly hit Major Applewhite coming out of my parking garage on the UT campus. After swiping a card, you had to pull out enough that the traffic arm could close again behind your car. I did this with authority, just as "The Major" crossed the driveway on the sidewalk. He gave me a really nasty look, too. He wasn't very big. I think I could have taken him.

The problem is Bo's ghost is still here. There are many fans hanging on to Bo as if he were an icon coach of some sort. The firing of Bo fractured the fan base. This back and forth thread just goes to show that the fracture still exists. That is what Bo accomplished. Riley not winning at all let alone at a high level just poured salt on the wound.

This hiring of Frost is/was about the only hire that could mend this rift and pull this fan base back together again.

People need to realize that the wrong hiring of Riley does not mean the firing of Bo was incorrect. It is time now for the Pro-Bo fans to let go of Bo and embrace Frost and the same with the people that wanted Bo gone.

I am not going to turn this post into whether either side is wrong or right. I am going to say it is time for both sides to let go and embrace what is now. It is the Frost era now and time for BIG RED Fans to become ONE again!

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I see it a different way. The fanbase fractured a long time ago starting with Solich's 7-7 season and severed completely with Callahan's failure. We are seeing faction fighting between the "Pelini was better than Riley" and the "Riley was better than Pelini" crowds. All the while, the "neither were good" crowd wonders why the two sides are arguing about it.

HTO is correct sometimes and he's wrong sometimes. In this case, there is media coverage substantiating the past stories as correct. If it were me, I probably would've started a thread too.

That’s why you do a courtesy flush, Mary Pat.

I met Bo twice on recruiting/fan trips. He was normal as ph&*. Took a bunch of farmers questions. Stupidity. Other nonsense.

The narrative that Bo was crazy just makes lame, archaic posters feel legitimized because they supported Riley and have nobody else to attack, yet feel marginalized, because they didn't support SF out of Oregon when we hired Smilin Mike.

Carry on.

lol

Except the 'Cornhusker Hotel incident' did happen. Along with some other embarrassing incidences surrounding this a$$ clown over his tenure at NU. Fact.

OP says this is the first time someone put this in print. Again just curious, if the story was so well sourced, why did it take so many years for a reporter to mention it in print? All the journalists were too gutless to run it? Or they didn't have any reliable sources? Or they thought it wasn't a big enough deal to run a story? Very strange delay.

The victim had plenty of opportunities as media approached him multiple times. For whatever reason, he decided to let it out recently.

The only "incident" of merit/relevance with Bo that matters, in my mind, was his inability to recruit talented players to Nebraska. His recruiting sucked. He couldn't win big games with 260lb DT and slow defenders, or good skill positions, overall. Bottom line.

It is easy to peg a guy for being an asshat when he doesn't accomplish these things. Saban is no prize. Woody Hayes was even worse than Bo.

I think the bigger travesty was Mike Riley, but at this stage, it's like arguing who was a bigger turd spouse when we finally have a prize after multiple messy divorces.

Absolutely agree, and the reason why was, he didn't have the horses to win the race. That is on him. You can't beat good teams with marginal talent.

One of the things I have seen from Frost coming out the gate is an ability to recruit what look like talented guys on a month's notice.

If there is anything good about not having had Frost the last 3 years, it's his resume and success at UCF, ties to FL recruiting-wise, and general respect in the coaching/player community from that turnaround.

So what, it cost a few million and an extra few years to get here, I truly think we have "The Guy" to move this Program back into Title Contention...

Nick Saban acts nothing like that lunatic. Saban is just a hard ass coach, not a raging psychopath.

I don't recall a happy moment, I just recall the ass chewings...but he wins, so he's not a psychopath???

Agreed!! It couldn't have been drawn up any better... We will be a title contender under Frost in less time than people think I believe.
I haven't been this excited for Husker football for 20 years.. Seeing quality football again with competent coaching will be a sight for sore eyes. GBR!!
