Why not try to play football in the fall? If winter football is ok, why not have a flexible schedule to include January and February? You could use those months to make up games, if they have to be moved back.

I think there likely are unstated political reasons BUT I'm sure the official answer would be that they expect a vaccine available in time for the winter season.

And we all hope one or more vaccines will be available on a widespread basis at the beginning of next year. Now nobody expects any vaccine to be 100% effective but somewhere between 50% and 75% is likely. Enough to make a difference.

Personally I don't think the winter season will happen. Not because of the virus but because it runs into too many other things like Spring sports, the NFL draft, etc.
