Silver lining

The silver lining for me IS that we get another game to play. A win in a bowl game, regardless of the opponent, will be another small step in the right direction.

Had that Iowa loss prevented us from bowl eligibility again this year I would be in a much more foul mood.
We probably got the Music City Bowl from the projections I've seen (including my own). I think most people are pretty happy with that.

Bullock should have shoved him out of bounds.
I’ve watched Johnson break tackles all year. He’s a big tough guy to tackle. We had him and the keystone cop move by our own guy knocking our tackler off him cost us 7 points.

Yeah we were feeling good after picking up Holgerson and smoking Wisconsin. If we cruised through Iowa, It could have masked the fact that some position coaches need to be upgraded this off season.
How could this be masked at all? Your big 6'3 receivers can't block worth a shit for 9 games, but all of a sudden can block when DH lights a fire under their asses. Yeah, receivers coach needs to go. Special teams has cost us how many games this season with sheer incompetence? Yeah, ST coach needs to go. Running backs coach is a subpar recruiter and can't teach his running backs how to hit a cutback? Yeah, he needs to go. 5 star Dylan Raiola getting worse as the season goes along. Glen Thomas needs to pack his bags.

These are obvious deficiencies. Regardless of how the last 3 games with Holgorsen went. We could have won all three. And yet these coaches were performing far below any sort of acceptable standard.

I still believe the zebras got the punt ruling wrong but all things considered that cost us 3 points. It was and understandable mistake by our guy who finally touched it but I still think Iowa touched it first. Low snap cost us 3. The BIG play was the long run then of course Dylan’s second fumble of the night. Never mind the multiple open receivers he didn’t see or hit.
Shavers should have stayed the hell away from it. Low IQ all across the roster.

I think I'm numb to all of this sh*t at this point. I'm just gonna take the high road and repress all of the negative crap at this point-- and I've become quite good at it over the years. I just block out some of this stuff and try not to let it affect my mood.

One thing I'll say, we had some individuals out there who really played their ass off. Robinson, Nash; Von Poppel really showed some promise for the future. The offense moved the ball. I think the OL will be better next year if Dana stays on. Dylan will be much improved too.

I’m with ya. We wanted this one bad and to lose it the way we did makes it hard to be rational and see the big picture. Or at the least see the positives. Kids played their asses off but just could make a few plays we needed (missed throws, missed tackles, missed blocks and dropped passes) and we made a few critical errors that cost us the game. (fumbles, punt debacle, bad snap) In the end I saw less coaching issues in this games than others, I mostly saw kids playing hard that made mistakes or missed making a play in key situations.

Now that doesn’t mean we don’t need to make some changes on the offensive staff. But I saw a Neyor drop a pass that would’ve gone for a huge gain. I saw Riaola miss about 3-4 throws that would’ve changed the game. I saw Shavers go after a ball he thought touched the return man. (It didn’t) I saw our tackles miss multiple blocks on the edge that got DR killed and the last one cost us the game. And lastly I saw a long snapper shit the bed on gimme FG. You can put some blame on the coaches for those mistakes/missed plays, but it mostly looked like we need some better players in some areas and the good players we have need to get better. This can be addressed with some good portal additions and better offensive coaching should help the good players we have improve.

Long story short, if Rhule makes the right coaching moves in the off season and gets us some good additions from the portal this team can make a big jump. And I know similar things have been said before but what do y’all want me to do? 🤷‍♂️ If I try to put my anger, pain and disappointment aside for a moment… I still see the opportunity for us to be a lot better next year.

Skippy Mac has to go. He’s never gonna inspire good players to be great and great players to become pros. Kids need to pe pushed, and 25 year olds don’t have the confidence, experience or respect to motivate 20-22 year olds. It just doesn’t work.
