SIAP: Romeo gone.

For anyone in the know, is Williams walking into a dumpster fire here, or will this be the end of any turmoil? Hopefully the two guards see this as an opportunity, and stick with Nebraska.
From what I understand, Romeo asked for her release before Williams was hired. Romeo was very critical of her teammates and stood behind Yori saying she did nothing wrong. As far as the two recruits, we should know soon about Cayton. She is supposed to announce her decision mid May. I also heard one of Williams players from USD is transferring to Nebraska, but doesn't have a guaranteed scholarship.

The drama has a good chance of continuing for 3 more years. But as long as the coach keeps practice "optional" they should be ok.

Another TM situation? Don`t follow hoops that closely.
Romeo was not a team player IMO. If she was, she would stay. Period. She wanted to score her points and didn't like youngsters taking her shots. JMHO. Time for a fresh start.

She would prefer the youngsters showed up to practice.

Pretty b&%$# move to say that about a player unless you have some real good knowledge that that was actually the case as opposed to just guessing. jmo

I don't see this all that different from a business scenario in my mind. Romeo had an allegiance to the head woman. Others weren't so fond of head woman. Romeo stood by her "boss" in essence saying others weren't giving their all.

Once head woman is shown the door, it's tough to come back into that environment.

I don't see one as right or wrong. But I do think she's making the right decision based on this situation.

It's pretty obvious he doesn't
She loves NU so much she's leaving. She was one against the whole rest of the team. I knew that early this past season from somebody plugged in to the program. When you look around the room and it's you against the rest of the world, maybe you're the problem. At times she was like a black hole jacking up crappy shots and missing open teammates. Good scorer, crappy teammate. IMO NU will be a better TEAM without her. As background a very good friend played for Connie at a high level at Creighton. When I heard some of the stories and saw first hand how she coached I was less than thrilled when we hired her. Hopefully we can get through the next decade with only one lawsuit from her "coaching". .

So you have been waiting 14 years for an "I told you so" moment regarding the women's basketball coach at Nebraska.

Hopefully the Freshmen decides that practice may be a good idea. And maybe daddy can convince her of that. I would be pissed and trying to take over games if I saw that crap allowed. Yori was a hard-ass for sure. Early on in the year there were talks of chemistry problems.

There's some serious blind faith homerism going on in that comment Dingle. She supported the coach and some of the other teammates didn't. Maybe she is right and the others are wrong (even if the numbers are heavier on one side of the fence). That's a very scary justification of "righteousness" you provided there. Are you trying to also say that any other shot taken by any other player was strictly a "team" shot but when she shot it was all about herself? If so, is that the case for every shot she took or just sometimes? What about when other players shoot? How do you actually tell?

I equate your commentary here to kicking someone on their way out of the door...you're only slandering to justify your opinion that the team is better off without her (which is true given what happened and that you don't go back from these tough "team" scenario's they experienced last yr, but also isn't true in a sense she can play and her talent will be missed in the overall final product).

Some players obviously felt like they were forced to play hurt this past season. To that point, they were going to make a deal out of it if something didn't change. This highly delicate situation obviously festered itself during the season, and led to a very tough team atmosphere where people had to take sides with the coaching staff. That in itself is a reason to show any coach the door...very surprised to see them do as well as they did given this circumstance.

I have specifically avoided specifics to avoid being accused of slander. There is so much more to this beyond basketball. I will NOT elaborate on a message board about this. Yori needed to go and any player that couldn't see that probably needs to go too. While I deplore the way she tore kids down this isn't about that OR "tough practices". Thank heavens some players FINALLY had the nerve to stand up for what was right rather than just transferring out like so many have.

Nope. I've hinted long before this came to light that there might be a surprise "retirement" in the works that necessitated that closed door BOR meeting a few months ago. People need to lay off the players that are sticking around. They aren't the "bad guys" in this deal. There is a very good reason why there was an athletic department official assigned to observe practices and the interactions involving Yori.

Once again. This is NOT about being a hard ass. This is NOT about "tough practices". You of all people should be able to figure out that there's more to this deal than that. You should probably be thanking those Freshmen for helping get some much needed house cleaning done.

So Dingle, I have no reason to doubt what you say, and I vaguely remember someone posting something about a potential surprise retirement. It's pretty obvious there had to be a fire of some sort due to all the smoke.

Back to my original question in this thread, does Romeo leaving mean the program can move forward without issues, or is this still a potential dumpster fire? I'm not trying to blame Romeo, I'm just wondering is there anyone else on the roster who may hold resentment about Yori leaving, or has Williams at this point won over the team as best she can?

I firmly believe there could be issues for 3 more years. And I don't think Yori was blameless.
