SIAP: Andrew White III declared for the NBA Draft

I have a feeling he will be back. The issue is that he will graduate in May so he may not want to come back. Things are not going well for Coach Miles right now.

Relax everyone. He's not hiring an agent. This is a good opportunity for him, as he can go to the pre-draft workouts and see how he compares to other players, and get his name out there for GM's and coaches. It'd be foolish for him not to take advantage of this opportunity to be able to declare, and then come back, just for the experience.

79% chance he comes back and plays for the Huskers next year.

9% chance he gets paid and decides to go NBA.

12% chance he goes to another school as a graduate transfer.

That's what I am hearing anyway.... From voices in my own head.

overseas is a possibility too.

The people freaking out are not familiar with the new rules. He would be stupid not to declare
Yep. Every single player on Kentucky roster declared some without an agent to see what NBA thinks of them. Smart move by White to gauge where he's at. I think he comes back, but a sliver of concern something could shift his mind away.

If he does leave for whatever reason, Miles might as well pack it in. Not confident he'll get two bigs this period and losing White would be fatal IMO.

I'd say "not going well" is an understatement. The program looks like a sinking ship right now.

Good news is it appears to be Minnesota or Nebraska and Minny has (currently) no available scholarships and it will be clear that he will be an instant starter (or at least significant minutes) at Nebraska. I'll take my chances.

Boston College is in the mix(he's from Boston I believe) and he may still visit Arizona last I heard. Wants playing time and with how our roster is set up you would think we would be an attractive place to land.

He's not leaving, the point of the evaluation is to honestly let kids know where they stand. The NBA doesn't benefit from a bunch of projects and guys that aren't ready for the league declaring early. Once he learns where he stands, he'll come back, just like a ton of these kids that have declared will. However, he'll have a better handle of the process, how he's viewed by evaluators and what improvements he needs to make. I would be absolutely shocked if he signed with an agent as I can't believe his evaluation will tell him he'd be drafted.

You got it wrong. It's not the fans job to secure a recruit, that's up to the coaches. It's nice to feel that the fans have a special role in this process but you're kind of kidding yourself with that mentality.

Plenty of home attendance from the fans this last season, which was a tough one, if you need to convince a prospect that the fans here are supportive...

I thought attendance was just average... Like the spring game, right Cheese?

Trollnsun? Is that you?

Exceptional attendance given the poor on field/court results for both. Thank you for asking what I think about that...

Definitely trolling I freely admit it. Just like you calling spring game attendance average. But you won't admit your trolling there...

Here is your quote from spring game attendance thread:

"you're right timmy...more average than good. My bad."

While I believe that Miles deserves more time, I don't really think he has earned an extension. The last 2 years have been disappointing.

OK...I guess I get to spell this out for Trollnsum. That "more average than good line" was in reference to the state of our football program currently (not the spring game attendance-which was indeed very good). Sorry, I wasn't going to spell it out for you but since you be trollin (again) I figure you actually should be told the correct understanding about what those words in that thread that you continually referenced.

back to thread...yes HC, average need not be rewarded.

Wow, thanks for the clarification. A thread about attendance at a spring game, where everyone is talking about attendance figures, you interject that we're not good, just average. what was the point of that post, if it wasn't trolling? You don't need to answer... I know trolling when I see it.

And obviously, I can troll as well. Just admit you're trolling in that thread and we can both move on.

Or don't, I don't care. We got a big time commit from Roberts today, so either way, it's a good day.

I was happy to hear a few days ago that he will finally get here for a visit. Assuming he flies into the Lincoln airport, fans might want to line the streets, make signs, and roll out the welcome wagon.
What is an "airport"?

It's the nature of the beast. If you do not sign constant extensions, this gets used against you in recruiting.
Or, this is the narrative that the coaching community has sold the AD community - hook, line and sinker.

Every college basketball coach that steps up to a better job recently signed an extension, and every college basketball coach that gets fired recently signed an extension. And yet, opposing coaches are still whispering to recuits, 'Son if you go to ____, Coach ____ blank might not be there when you're a senior"?

The logic behind the "gotta have an extension if you want me to recruit" argument died about 20 years ago. Now it's just a generous severance program for millionaires.

While there's truth in what you are saying, coaches with extensions aren't necessarily dead men walking... Withhold an extension from a coach who has had some tough years and you better believe that hinders recruiting that much more than the coach with the extension. It's just the nature of the beast. How do you as a coach, with no extension, assure those you are recruiting that you will be there?

Whether extended or not, you can be fired anytime, no doubt. But there is a big difference when it comes to recruiting when you don't have to talk about your lack of a contract extension.

Miles got a contract extension last year through 2020. That's the year that any recruit who signs this year would graduate. So nobody could use that against him in recruiting.

Besides, if a coach is perceived to be on the hot seat, does the number of years on his contract really matter? You could give Richard Pitino a 10-year extension, but everyone and their dog knows that he won't survive another losing season.

I like Miles and the young players he has brought in, I just don't see what he has done in the last year to deserve another extension.

He's not going anywhere. He's going to hear "son you have to improve your ball handling if you want to play in this league".

Or maybe he plays Euro ball, gets some cash and gets coached by professional coaches for a year to get him prepared for the NBA

I get what you are saying, but really, if Nebraska was the one to take a stand, we would put ourselves at a disadvantage. The AD community would need to band together and make some sort of agreement to counter this narrative for it to really be effective. Until such time, I don't really see much option.

If I was a basketball player with a legitimate shot at playing professional I would turn pro as soon as possible.

The D League has come a long ways in the last 9-10 years. Competition is light years better and the coaching is great. Factor in that you don't have to worry about school or the practice restrictions put on by the NCAA, I think it's a no brainer.

You mean except for the fact that you are only making about 24K per year and you have to bus it to games, and sleep in flea bag motels..other than that, D league is great.

I would take the 175-300K tax free and play overseas over D league, and if I was good enough to make an NBA roster, they would certainly be able to find me in Europe playing as much as they would find me in the D league.

^^ This person doesn't like the D league.

The NBA D league is affiliated with the NBA so you would get a better shot of being seen. Plus, it is a Developmental league. Players don't play in the Iowa Energy to support their families. They do it to get the chance to play at the next level. 40% of every player drafted in the last 10 years have played in the D leauge.

If your ultimate goal is to land on an NBA roster, the D league is a MUCH better option. If getting money and supporting a family is your goal then you go over seas.

Sounds like this one is going down to the wire. How important is White's decision for Miles future employment at Nebraska? We could go from a potential NCAA team next year to Miles going under .500 again based on this decision IMO.
