That's why people need to actually read the article and think critically. Absolutely nothing in their original article indicated the university athletic department knew any details about the case. The title they chose was completely irresponsible journalism and yet you had multiple people here who only read the article title and spout off that Frost and Moos need to be let go too.
Both articles said that the university knew about the incident in Fall of 2018. What was there to critically think at that point?

Who was calling for Frost or Moos to be fired?

The investigators didnt even know whether this would lead to a conviction yet, but Frost was supposed to know?
Drama queens gonna drama queen. It takes a lot of mental gymnastics and speculation here to try to pin frost with wrongdoing here.
I dont believe anyone is saying Frost was supposed to know. People (like me) are wondering if someone told Frost about Mo's incident.

According to a reporter on the radio this morning, all NU knew was that authorities wanted to question him about a legal matter in California. They did not know the specifics of the incident nor would the investigators share the specifics at that time.

If we are in agreement that this is a serious issue for Maurice Washington to intimidate and shame this girl, and to possess the video...THEN if it is found that Frost knew about this before he allowed MW to play this year, Frost SHOULD take heat for allowing him to play in 2018.
In the court filings, the girl initiated contact with Washington by starting "What's up STUD?". Man. Then her step mom is mad because the nature of the interaction turned sexual? Really? Now I agree that Washington should NEVER have been stupid enough to have saved the video OR sent it to her but this whole interaction was initiated by the girl. IF the step mom wasn't snooping, NONE of this would have ever come up. And it shouldn't have come up. This was way worse for the girl than having seen that video again. The problem for Washington was a busy body step mom and a VERY aggressive female prosecutor in San Francisco.

Maybe some actual evidence. Or do you just blindly believe everything the media says? There was nothing in the article suggesting that the athletic department knew any details about the incident other than the title, which was changed along with the body of the article... probably because they had no evidence supporting their claim.

Nor should they have.

This isnt hard.

He should have never kept that video, let alone sent it to her.

Exactly, SO the assumption that NU did something wrong here or should have been more aggressive in ferreting out what the deal was are just wrong. Things have to run through the proper channels. As far as Washington saying he doesn't know what it's about goes, he MIGHT not have had a good idea of what it was about. He MIGHT not have known that the girl's step mom had gone to police. We don't know.

No doubt NU's legal team made a phone call to make sure they had the facts correct.Winking Facts are sometimes a stranger to reporting these days in the world of lynch mobs.

Even the originial article wasnt as damning as some on here made it out to be.

FFS, no one said Nebraska did anything wrong. But if you don't think Frost and Moos questioned Washington about why the police were wanting to question him, I have some ocean front property near Red Oak, Iowa I need to sell you.

If someone had contacted one of my players about a legal matter, I sure as hell would be asking that player what the heck was going on? If they said I have no idea, I would be asking questions because, no way in hell does is the Sheriff and the DA contacting the kid and Mr Vaughn, for a speeding violation.

Cripes man, it's not about blindly following them. Do you seriously question every single thing that any media outlet puts out or just question the ones where you don't like what's being reported before you have all of the facts? I'm guessing the latter.

Stop acting like you don't form an opinion on anything by the info that has been presented.

None of my opinions on this matter have been set in stone because I don't have all of the info and I know there is still more to come. But until then I'm going to form a reasonable opinion on the information that's put out and change my opinion later if necessary. This is logical and perfectly reasonable.

Sheesh...
You sure seemed happier when you thought that article proved Nebraska knew things...

GTFO. Your entire posting in this thread trying to throw shade at NU and find reason to question/damage them is an embarassment.
Got caught with your pants down and cant handle it.
You can return to your normal negative posting elsewhere, now...might want to calm down first. Sorry that logical defense of NU and our coach upset you.

Absolutely they asked him about it and he told them "I don't know what they want". That's the point. He may not have known what they wanted and MAY have been truthful with them at that time. This incident happened months ago and he may not have thought it was any big deal at the time to where police would be calling. Certainly if you believe Bruning NU didn't know what the issue was. Investigators were still trying to build a case and they weren't going to spill the beans. Some people want to assume the very worst and that may not be an accurate reflection of the events.

I think the frustration comes from people acting like they don't form any kind of opinion until absolutely everything comes out.

I submit to you that the "many" number you and JohnRossEwing keep spewing out is more like "few," and, it's still a crime, and it's still child porn.

JC you are thick.

And I did do some research. It's about 15% of young people, so much more like the "less"(although still too many).

I just read a stat of 31% of kids 13-19 years of age have received images via sexting. Suffice it to say that a large percentage of kids are guilty of sending and receiving provocative images of themselves and others, which means large numbers of kids could be charged with possessing child porn.

The fact that so many kids possess naked images of underaged females and males isn't remotely surprising to me, and isn't what is most disturbing to me. What is most disturbing to me in this entire story is that we have a player on our team right now that has used these images to angrily humiliate and intimidate a female. Period.

This isn't remotely a case of an old pedophile keeping a trove of images and videos of young nude children. It is, however, a case of a young man attempting to intimidate and shame/humiliate a person of the same age of the opposite sex. That, to me, is why he needs to be removed from our team, and not the fact that he is in possession of a 10-second video of his ex-girlfriend. It was well beyond being mean-spirited.

Yes, by law, he was in possession of a video of an underaged girl (at the time of the recording), but that isn't the most disturbing part of the story to me, since 30% of high school kids already have pics/videos of this type on their phones already.

Bruning and Davison are really good friends. Our coaches knew what was going on.

Being good friends does not negate the attorney-client privilege. I would be very surprised if Bruning shared specifics with Davison and I'm not sure that Bruning even knew until December what exactly the investigators were looking for other than to talk to Washington. I have had several very good friends who are or were attorneys and they don't share anything concerning people we know. SOME professionals take their legal responsibilities very seriously. Once again, you are assuming the worst.

And yet this female initiated contact with Washington by saying "What's up stud?". That sounds pretty sexual to me. I think your outrage over Washington's actions don't fit the circumstances of how this all came about.

Regardless of what she texted him, he was wrong as to how he responded to her when she said she didn't want a romantic relationship. That's exactly why he needs to be removed from the team.

It appears logical to me that he took her text as sexual in nature and then things escalated and got out of control. MY point is that people assuming that this kid is a horrible person IMO are assuming the worst of this kid. He's stupid for saving the video but I would venture that probably a large percentage of kids his age would have done the same thing. Stupid for sending the video assuming that he did. Apparently we don't even really know that for sure though because supposedly the step mom wasn't able to save it in time. That is why the investigators want his phone and computer.

All I'm asking is that you hold the horses back a little bit on insisting that he's a bad person and should be kicked off the team. These 2 kids have history together and we're viewing it with somewhat limited information from the outside. Try to put yourself in his shoes for just a few minutes and wait to see how things play out. I'm not condoning what he is alleged to have done. Good kids make bad mistakes. I'm not saying he's a good kid. I don't know him but I'll trust Frost to do the right thing AFTER the courts have their say.

To summarize
1. Mo did something very stupid that kids his age do. The fact that kids do these things like this means little once it becomes a legal matter.
2. Mo may have some behavioral issues that need to be addressed. Some people live high drama lives and have poor emotional control. I expect that he will stay with the program unless the legal sanctions in CA require his presence for incarceration. If the former is the case, I really hope he is required to address these problems.
3. It is possible that Mo had no idea what CA authorities wanted if he didn't put 2+2 together wrt his possession of a sex video its subsequent transmission to the girl. I think it unlikely.
4. Whether or not NU officials knew is less of an issue than whether they have plausible deniability. We may suspect Frost et al. knew, but there likely won't be evidence of that.
5. The legal part of this story is now in play and given that the incident in question occurred before Mo was a student at NU, sanctions wrt the football team are tricky. Does a kid get suspended for events that occurred before he was a student?

Again, if the allegations are true, what Mo did was truly malicious. But his actions took place before he became a member of the team. I assume he has been within the bounds of team rules since joining.

This sounds about right. They don’t just run around giving away information unless it benefits the case.

Love the Iowa idiots. Bruning is no longer the AG you nimrod.

We are doing just fine debating this issue without your input.

Just a random attorney then!! Some kids are just born lucky, imagine his surprise at learning Brunings former title.

They are botching this bad and trying to side step each others words in the process. Digging themselves a deeper hole. Bruning should just say who contacted him about representing Mo, likely someone in the Athletic Dep, but that would open the floodgates on the AD in the sense of why would a new freshman football player need representation by one of the highest profile attorneys in the state. Its obvious they knew, contacted Bruning and hoped it would go away, well it didn't and now they have a problem. They could've put an end to this up front by telling the truth or at least getting all their stories in line.

Bruning knew the details back in September:

Sept. 19, 2018: Bruning calls Haselbach and Sexton and says he was contacted by the athletic department to represent Washington. Bruning says he spoke to Washington about the case and Washington says he was befuddled by it and would never send a video of a sexual nature to an underage girl. Haselbach repeats his request to interview Washington.

The staff may not have known all the details, but they knew it at least involved an inappropriate text message:

At some point, Frost asks Bruning whether the football staff should be concerned about the investigation. Bruning does not reveal details of the nature of the inquiry but says it involved a text message when Washington was in California. Bruning tells Frost he doubted it would result in criminal charges.

Did I read somewhere that Coach Frost ask Washington directly about this and Mo said something to the effect, "I don't know anything about that." Lying to your coach (who is likely trying to help you) is not a smart thing to do.

The football staff introduced Washington to Jon Bruning. From the Omaha World-Herald:

Sept. 13, 2018: Jamie Vaughn, the NU assistant athletic director of compliance, calls Sexton to say he had spoken to Husker football staff, who were concerned about Washington needing a lawyer. Vaughn says he would try to set up a time for Washington to meet with Sexton.

Vaughn informs Bob Burton, deputy athletic director/chief of staff, and Athletic Director Bill Moos of the conversation with Sexton.

The football staff introduces Washington to Jon Bruning, a former Nebraska attorney general, Husker booster and longtime friend to Matt Davison, the associate athletic director of football, and coach Scott Frost.

(At some point, Frost asks Bruning whether the football staff should be concerned about the investigation. Bruning does not reveal details of the nature of the inquiry but says it involved a text message when Washington was in California. Bruning tells Frost he doubted it would result in criminal charges.)
