No.

What he did was wrong to shame the girl(allegedly)....but there are a lot of us that apparently would be in serious trouble if they were able to uncover what was on our computers and phones as a senior in high school.
Shoot, if I had a computer in HS it would have had more viruses than a research lab.

Suspended until investigation is over. If their was malfeasance it won't matter what the University does his ass will be in jail.

Furthermore, young people's lives are ruined all the time by laws, we just don't see it because 99% of people are not in the public eye. It's simply amazing how the same people who preach personal responsibility will give people a pass if they play for their sports team.
I don't think he'll see jail time if the people involved in the video and the people that ACTUALLY distributed the video didn't. If they get his phone and find evidence that he was still sending it out to OTHER people, then all bets are off.

READ. I even quoted the portion of the article. It clearly says "expelled."
Fair enough. She was expelled.

Now I will ask again, what portion of that has anything to do with what Washington did? Like I said in the deleted post. He received video, he was told to delete video. He decided to keep video and not follow the directive. He sends video. Video is of minors, who he is not one of, having sex. He then sends video via text back to the alleged victim of a sexual assault.

The rest is just ancillary crap to try and deflect what took place and to defend a football player and a football program.

I think what happened that people are discussing more than one or even two topics in this thread so that is why there are so many takes (Jim Rome).

I believe he was at a different school when he received the video. He may or may NOT have been told to delete the video. The point was that it is extremely doubtful that the school and the police would view the video, not decide to press charges for SA or rape and then turn around and expel the supposed "victim" if it were in fact a rape/SA situation. That just doesn't add up.

I think the best case scenario for Washington would be if the prosecutor agrees not to pursue the felony charge in exchange for a guilty plea on a misdemeanor. Now that he has an actual criminal defense attorney, I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen.

That wouldn't necessarily mean he stays at NU or remains on the team, obviously, but first he needs to stay out of prison.

Even though what he did occurred before he was a NU student?
I don't think it matters. I think Frost and the university have to make a point that this type of behavior is not going to be tolerated. He sent it to her while here though didn't he? Also from a national perspective, if would look very bad if they did nothing. Not that what everyone else thinks should matter, but it does.
Don't get me wrong, I think it is all stupid and being blown way out of proportion with this Child porn thing. He should not be kicked off the team for it and should not be labeled as a sex offender. I just think there has to be some consequence, I think a 1 game suspension would be fitting.

Don't care about the alleged rape and the supposed victim. That has nothing to do with what Washington is alleged to have done.

Not to make any excuses, but how many high school kids actually know that this is a law of distributing child porn? Unless your high school informed all classes it's illegal to do this or your parents, but unfortunately 1/2 the kids today come from a broken family or single parent, and out of that how many parents actually give a crap what the kid does? I highly doubt any of us realize how many laws each state and the federal government passes each year. does this condone what he did? No way but unless he has other skeletons give the kid a second chance and a very short leash.

Again, what I read is "forced to leave the school". Larry and Mabel were forced to take their kid from their local high school because she was pregnant. The pregnancy forced them to move, not administration.
In her essay she does explicitly say that she was expelled, but that wouldn't be the first time a school has expelled a victim.

Lets review the allegations.

Female was involved in an encounter with two others, she alleges it was a sexual assault. It appears she had dated Washington and had broken up with him.

Washington is alleged to have received the video that filmed the encounter/sexual assault (does anyone debate that a video with 3 15 year olds having sex is child porn, assault or not?).

One of the individuals who created the video was charged, and ultimately put on probation for distribution of child pornography in 2016 for this very video.

Washington is alleged to have, on MULTIPLE occasions by the girl, attempted to coerce her into viewing the video. In March the girl's mother intercepted a text that appeared to be from Washington that included the video and the words "Remember this hoe".

Washington's own lawyer has characterized the girl as a victim of a sexual assault and insists that Washington had nothing to do with the incident, it doesn't appear that he has denied the allegations that the video was sent to the girl, but he says there is additional context and information.

I brought that up because you brought it up. If it was a different poster, then I apologize. It just didn't seem accurate to characterize her as some poor victim of SA or rape when there was zero evidence to suggest that that was actually the case. Some on here had been using her status as a victim of SA or rape to paint Mo in an even worse light.

She was 15 when the video was made, he was 18 when he graduated, 17 as a junior, 16 as a sophomore and 15 as a freshman. I can pretty much assume they were at the same school when they were dating.

Adult, maybe an immature one, but an adult. Not legally a kid anymore. Ignorance of the law is not a defense, and considering one of the kids who made the video was charged with distribution of child porn for sending the very video in 2016, when Washington again was alleged to have send the same video in 2018 shows there is reasonable expectation that he knew the video was considered child porn.

Mo started out in CA, eventually ended up at Trinity HS in Texas, and then back to CA to finish his Sr. year. When he received the video, I believe he was at Trinity in Texas.

You mean other than Washington's lawyer specifically referring to her as a victim, calling it a sexual assault and the fact that one of the two others involved in the video was charged for distribution of child porn in 2016?

Not at all. Redshirt him in 2019, give him sensitivity training or some shit like that, and then unleash him in 2020 on Nebraska's way to the CFB Playoff.

To win, you have to play dirty. Bring on the cocaine, strippers, and steroids. We back, baby.
Maybe he just needs the right assistant coach to take him under his wing. Perhaps Joe Tumpkin is available?
Plea deal rejected in Tumpkin assault case.

He has to address it as such now, because the family suggests that they are considering trying to press charges against the two males in the video.

I don't think that is the case. He was at the school when the video was sent out. He was only at Trinity Christian for about 7 months. He was at Trinity Christian, in March of last year though. When he sent the video to her and asked her if "the hoe remembered this"

I saw an article recently that said 75% of teenage girls have been asked/propositioned to send inappropriate videos and/or pictures. As a father of two daughters, it was shocking and alarming.
The real shocking part...how many girls send them and also...the dudes doing the asking are the dudes they hang out with.

I think that is incorrect. I believe he had already been expelled from Trinity and was back in CA finishing coursework for his Sr. year when he sent the video to her.

It's a whole new ballgame with Snapchat and other instant messaging. I don't like it I don't have a account on any of that stuff including Facebook. The problem is the kids today either take it as a joke or a challenge. Not much difference that try to buy alcohol or cigarettes before you old enough it's a challenge as a kid your told not to but the little devil on your left shoulder says go for it you can do it. some kids will take the nude snapshots just for the thrill or high

He was expelled in April or May from Trinity Christian.

This is an excerpt from an article written in May 2018

Washington's high school experience has proved a winding, multi-state road that began as a standout at King’s Academy, a private school in Sunnyvale, California. He rushed for 1,800 yards and 29 touchdowns as a sophomore, but then tried to transfer to Oak Grove, a public school and football powerhouse near his childhood home in San Jose, California. That move was deemed to be driven by football rather than proximity to home, and Washington was forced to sit out his junior season.

Then, before his senior year he moved to Texas to live with a relative and play at Trinity Christian.

He flourished as a senior, rushing for for 1,253 yards (10.2 per carry) and 15 touchdowns, and added 582 receiving yards (22.9 per catch) and nine more scores during his lone season playing high school football in Texas.

I am no lawyer, but I believe since the girls family is still claiming rape and that case is still open, it has to be referred as such.

Oh for sure!

Look...if you have a kid that is 13-17 I would bet my beach house that he/she has either watched porn on their phone/device, started at half naked "hotties of pinterest" and taken/received at least one (varying degree of) naked picture.

I say suspend him for now and see how it plays out in the legal system. What he did was EXTREMELY stupid and mean spirited, and doesn't reflect the character I believe Frost wants from his players, but I'm not yet ready to boot him off the team, even if he is convicted. Frost and the athletic department have tough call with this, we don't want to be seen as coddling football players, especially in this day and age, but doing something stupid shouldn't automatically end a player's career. I'm curious as to what the University's Code of Conduct is for all students. What if a non-athlete had done what Mo is accused of doing and was convicted or took a plea, would the University kick that student out of school? If so, Mo needs to be treated the same way.

He spent 2 years at the school in question with the girl, transferred for his junior year but was ruled ineligible, moved to Texas and went for most the year there before being expelled sometime in early 2018 (not a stretch to assume the parents contacted his school in Texas when this occurred, leading to his prior unexplained expulsion), he then went back to CA to finish high school.

I think it's most likely the message was actually sent from Texas.

No, most people just don’t think what he did warrants kicking him off the team. He was most likely ignorant to the fact he was committing a crime. They had a previous romantic relationship and we don’t know the dynamics. It appears that the 3-some was consensual, with regret, to me from the given info and the video taping was the main issue. Washington wasn’t at the school when the video was dispersed and may have not been told to erase it. Finally, he distributed it to the “victim”, not the masses as far as we know. He wasn’t selling the video to pedofiles. Many of us just don’t think it warrants the level of punishment that you do.

I don’t like the idea of tossing the kid aside because he’s “trash” or it would “hurt our reputation”. That’s too self righteous for me. Kids like Maurice need people in their life to help show them how to be a man, something I don’t think he’s ever had. Now if the courts decide otherwise and he gets jail time or whatever, so be it.

That being said, I think he should be punished. Suspend him for the 2019 season. Let him grow and prove himself. (No tolerance policy) Tell him to put the Social Meida away for the entire suspension. Maybe some other things like counseling or some kind of classes that help him understand how his actions are hurtful. Also he should apologize to this girl, as long as it isn’t something that would hurt her more.

If Maurice can’t, or isn’t willing to do any of that, then that’s his prerogative, and we should then move on without him. JMO.

And what level of punishment is that? I predicted what I thought might happen (misdemeanor and probation), I didn't say anything about what I thought he deserved. Since everyone is using the phrase "it appears" while talking out of their ass, I'll say it appears that not many around here like this revenge porn statute or are concerned about the actions that it is intended to deter.

no option for "wait for the facts"? Sheesh
Thought about it, but We have a pretty clear Idea. He is being charged with child porn and revenge porn. What is going on in the video doesn't really matter as far as the child porn charge. So that case is separate and doesn't affect his child porn charge, or the revenge porn charge. Since I don't believe he has denied sending the video, I think the Revenge porn charge will be tough to dispute and he will be found guilty of that. Unless they find pics of little kids on his computer and or cell phone the Child porn charge is BS and a technicality in my eyes if he is found guilty or not. So then it becomes should he be kicked off for being found guilty of revenge porn. I say nope.
