So ESPN creates the media storm that is johnny football. He was an average player trumped by Espn as the greatest thing ever. He doesn't sniff the Heisman without them having a wet dream every time he takes a snap.

Now they get the joy of tearing him to shreds. Build it up so you can tear it down. The guy deserves zero media coverage, but damn that's all i see when trying to get any sports news.

Am i the only one sick of this crap? I can't stand watching espn, and abc during football season because of all these false legends.

End of rant

Say what? Manziel was a great college qb and that wasn't ESPN. As for his Flutie-like talent, Flutie wasn't much of an NFL qb either, but at least seemed to be a decent person unlike Manziel.

affluenza...?

its hard to know for sure if he was destined to be the flash in the pan he seems to be, because he blew his chance - i understand literally - to have a decent career in the nfl. as far as building him up to tear him down, they just want people to watch. and people do.

Manziel was a great college QB. Thing is that everyone has speed in the NFL. Well, except Payton Manning.

ESPN may suck at a lot of things, but Manziel is not one of them. He's been making his own bed for quite some time. He has a lot of God given talent, but instead of working hard on his game he's partying like he's still in college. He can't afford to do that and compete against the talent in the NFL. He owes the city of Cleveland a big apology.

I wouldn't say he was a great college qb. He was great at scrambling and a good athlete. He also had a great receiver. Whenever he threw the ball up for grabs, his receiver would come down with it. He was at best an average qb who was great at scrambling.

I don't see how you blame media for any of this. Johnny was an unbelievable talent in college football that voters voted for him to win the Heisman. ESPN covers every Heisman candidate/winner significantly.

Johnny himself can't handle alcohol and fame and is too immature to deal with it. ESPN covers a former Heisman NFL QB who continues to find trouble.

I love the criticisms people give media companies for covering what people read. Maybe theyve forgotten that media is a business that needs eyeballs to make money.

Interesting topic...Johnny was a great COLLEGE talent, and , IMHO, a potentially good pro qb...but can't get out of his own way...

no problem with ESPN on this one...

Don't hate.

The guy brought a lot of the criticism on himself but he also lives in more of a fish bowl than anyone in football. Why doesn't ESPN follow pacman jones around to see if he ever has a beer? There are a lot of guys with much worse histories than Manziel but they don't get lambasted by the media for drinking a beer.

The media has been all over pacman before, many times. Pacman also isn't a QB. Same reason people don't care as much about Gronk showboating after a big play, he isn't a QB. That's how it works.

There is some real weak revisionist history going on here.
He was a fantastic college QB and absolutely electric with the ball in his hands. Dude was very worthy of the Heisman. Dislike him all you want, but dont make crap up. I hope he gets it together because it would be a great story and fun to watch.

He won the Heisman in a down year. He had a knack of staying on his feet and chucking the ball to receivers that made plays for him.
I believe his Heisman was as product of the ESPN hype machine. They made him a celebrity, and he gets more attention then he is worth.

Not just an ESPN rant it is nearly impossible to watch the news and their angled agenda
