I came to Lincoln for my annual game for Oregon. Originally, I had not planned on going to the game. I thought instead I would just park myself in a downtown bar to watch the game. I guess I am getting old (57) and just did not want the hassle of cramming into some nosebleed seat somewhere. And that got me saying to myself "this is why the sellout streak is in jeopardy". Sports bars, big screen home theatres, blah, blah, blah.

But my sister scored some great tickets around the thirty yard line in the West stadium. So I went. Damn I am glad I did. Greatest game environment since 78 vs. OU that I have witnessed. And it reminded this old fart that there is NO substitute for being at the game itself. I know, I know... it was a big game and not all games are like this one was. But the folks who manage the sound system have really upgraded the game day atmosphere by eliminating all the damn promos and commercials and stupid games with music that gets the place rocking. "Let me clear my throat" gave me chills.

I am also very impressed with the younger generation of fans who have little to no memory of our glory years and yet still show up and rock the house. There is still life in the Husker fan base!

Of course, winning also helps big time. But if Riley keeps us on the upswing (and I think he will) I am more hopeful now that the sellout streak will continue. GBR

I had tickets but had to sell them because I could not find anyone to take care of my dogs (I'm in Colorado Springs). Wish I had been there but the outcome made it all ok. Hell, more than ok!

Great point about the young fans. It's really apparent that they are bringing great energy to the stadium.

Also very glad to hear they got rid of those annoying energy sapping commercials and games they used to do. Those things were a MAJOR buzz kill back in the day. Just took all the wind out of the sails whenever they'd come on.

I need to get back to Nebraska to catch a game!

Thanks for the report, was the crowd "smart" like always, loud for the D quiet for the O?

Great crowd. I get the trend of people staying at home, but there really is no substitute for being there. Hot, cold, rain, snow, it doesn't matter. Oftentimes it adds to the fun as long as it's not too extreme. The loudest I've ever heard it still is immediately after black 41 flash reverse but there have been few moments since then that have even been close and this was one of them.

Good post. I was thinking about this recently. The sellout streak survived some dark times over the last 15 years. I like out trajectory upward currently and think good things are possible down the road. I hope the streak continues forever.

I think Riley has us on the upswing. Since the Purdue game last year, we have beaten MSU, UCLA, and Oregon. And we did that with little depth at key positions. Give Riley a couple more years of recruiting and I think we will be back as a top ten team.

Alex Henery FG against CU, with the Suh pick 6 following was the loudest Memorial crowd that I've been a part of, but I imagine last Saturday was about 6000 fans louder.

You know, I hit levels with my voice I never thought was possible. However, I could not touch the pitch this Oregon girl a few people over from us. She was making mine and everyone else's ears bleed.

I really liked all the Oregon fans I met. Friendly and a lot of fun. I put down a few Tequila shots with a group of them at Yowies

Next time put them in the garage with 20# of dog food, 10 gallons of water and about 6 feral cats. You would have one hell of a mess to clean up but you and the dogs would have had a blast.:)

Oh, and my wife, who attended Notre Dame and was a senior during the Holtz title year, also went to the game. She is not easily impressed, but she told me she had never seen anything like it ever. She was amazed. Take that Notre Dame
Back when I had season tickets, I brought my buddy with me from Illinois. He was Chicago Bears season ticket holder. On the trip there, he was talking about how great Bear tailgating was. On the way back home he tells me, Bear tailgating ain't nothing like that! Oh, and the game was great as well. Anyway, that was the start of about 5 years of Nebraska trips with my friend.

The thing is, everyone wanted to go to the Oregon game. Even schools like Texas and Florida State have thousands of empty seats except for "big games". What sets us apart is that we will fill the stadium every game. However, I do know a lot of NU fans who only wanted to see the Oregon game, but don't want to pay money for any other game. Those type of fans bother me (sorry- that's how I feel). Luckily we have enough real fans to fill it every home game regardless of opponent. I hope that continues.

You got that right. I had season tickets throughout the Solich/Callahan years. Every break in the action was interrupted by "now quiet down and turn your attention to the HuskerVision screen for another bottle race or other stupid gimmick." It really sucked the life right out of the stadium. They always seemed to do them when the Huskers were on defense and needed as much noise as possible, too.

If the athletic department has finally gotten that corrected, then someone deserve a very big raise.

Precisely. I think that they came to realize how hard it is to keep energy alive in the stadium in this era of longer games with more dead time. Now that every game is on TV, there are numerous dead periods in the course of a game, if those dead periods are filled with fluff the energy goes out of the crowd.

We can hope that they get that message.
