Check out these videos of Langsdorf with Mannion (who is a QB for the LA Rams). Pretty cool stuff. Dude can put the ball on a button. I mean, he is an NFL QB and should be able to but that's beside the point. Even better for social media during the offseason, especially for recruits to see.

Pretty sure it wouldn't fly with at least one of our assistant coaches. When you want to sent up the mentality of a "no fly zone", having an elite fly zone would be frowned upon!

He plays defense?

Agreed. Tommy also bailed the line out quite a bit with his escapability. If we had a statue back there, we would have had numerous more sacks against us. Don't get me wrong, Tommy needs to pick up his game, but we always focus on the bad. He did a lot of really good things this season as well.

While I agree that TA sometimes made something out of nothing he also was forced to do that often BECAUSE he held the ball too long without progressing through his reads. I would also note that some of his attempts at extending and making plays ended in turnovers or very deep sacks. You can't just say QB A did this then QB B would do this because the entire dynamic changes. The D may rush, call plays or play entirely differently with a different guy at QB. Mannion and TA are two entirely different QBs with different skill sets. A guy that could get through his reads quickly and make accurate throws IMO would have HELPED his O line immensely. Love TA but some of our O line struggles at times were him holding the ball too long.

I love Tommy's heart and competitive nature. He's a beast of an athlete and I love how hard he's worked and the sacrifices he's made for the program. In my opinion he would've been one of the best ever qb' in NU history if he came along in the 80's or 90's when we had beasts all over the field and ran a different offense. Unfortunately, it's not the 90's and he doesn't run an option offense with all Americans surrounding him.

As a passer, his biggest flaw is that he doesn't have that internal clock that runs out. On very rare occasions does he ever throw it away or not throw the ball downfield when he could take a 2 yd gain. Note: sometimes this works out great and we get a first down or more. Oftentimes it ends up in issues.

You do realize that mannion is in the NFL right? You don't think a pro style NFL QB would have garnered a better record at Nebraska than TA?

I'm just hoping the entire teams improves and the coaches have a better understanding of their players capabilities.

I think we could at least win 9 games next year, based on the improvements we saw at the end of the season.

What I am seeing is a change in how Nebraska utilizes social media, with some focus on the type(s) of training and drills that are being worked on. This includes the film room study clips from last weekend. I think it's smart, because words are only talk. When you show how you break down film, the types of things position groups work on, you give an idea of the types of detailed instruction recruits are going to get. It also indirectly highlights the facilities, for those that haven't been to campus yet. Smart in my opinion.

I wish Tommy & our other QB's could be in there working with them!!!

I think this ^^^^ is played a role in Tim Beck getting (some) grief about not developing QBs as the coaches are not allowed to work with them like the videos above show, which led them to finding a QB guru on their own to improve.

I don't know the rules, but you would think that the coach can make training videos that the players can voluntarily watch while in the training facility to work on certain areas of their game. Maybe they can do drills similar to these that the players can do on their own, but maybe that still wouldn't help as their wouldn't be a coach there to dissect what the player is doing right/wrong.

Can the strength training coaches (Mark Philipp) work with players to refine skills or are they allowed to only do strength/exercises type things?

Bet there's no rule about the boys going in there to hang out with Manion. Or the WRs happening to wanna show up and catch a few with him. The sound it made when he fired that strike on the crossing route...something good and pure about that.

Probably gets muddy about whether they can do drills around Langs, but if they're not required to be there, could probably get away with it if he's working with somebody else and they happen to show up to do their own thing.

In any event, there's just no downside to having NFL guys coming back and hanging around.

Why in the hell would S.M. come here and possibly think he could learn anything from Langsdorf? I mean I've seen lots of posts here during the season that say Langsdorf is a horrible coach! This kid is obviously destroying his chances in the NFL. Someone needs to tell him to wise up before he is harmed beyond repair.

Oh he seems like a terrific QB coach. He just needs to make his peace with hamming the (expletive) football a little more often. It's not that I fault his philosophies in theory, but he sometimes forgets to coach the team he has and not the team he's trying to build.

yeah, it is almost like, why have a coach if they can't actually coach the players.. why is this limited by the NCAA to begin with.. it just hurts the players and keeps them from being able to get personalized instruction.

I like TA, because I love running QB's, but a NFL QB who knows the ins and outs of Riley's offense would have led us to a B1G ship and a playoff bid. We never were "blown out" and our QB's had 21 INTs. We beat Sparty and with Mannion we would beat them again in Indy. That's what was most disappointing about this season, we had a super soft schedule. Next years will be harder and we have a lot of unknowns still, but I am optimistic and hope the young guns are ready to jam.

I do realize Mannion is in the NFL, and I watched him at Oregon State numerous times as my wife is an alum, and attended many games. Like I said, Tommy had his problems, but I don't know how much better we would have been with a pro style QB. Defense was a lot of the issue of last years team. We scored enough points to win every game last year. We need to secure our OL, and get a lot better up front before I will be stoked on a straight drop back QB. You can disagree, but that is what I see.

I don't disagree, but there were also multiple times the line did absolutely nothing, and he made something out of nothing. For me it goes both ways. The comment is more about we scored plenty of points, and it was our D more than Tommy that lost us games. I agree there were a few games that he cost us with his mistakes, but to win a title we are going to need a full team effort and in our losses we didn't get that last year. Hard for me to bomb Tommy under the bus fully, and say that if we had a pro style QB like Mannion our problems are solved.

No. Not this last year. I support Riley and do not believe that. Our tackle play was horrid.

That's fair. I guess my thinking was that mannion would have been familiar with the offense and instead of throwing games away via the turnover (most notably, Purdue and Iowa), he would have been smarter with the ball. Those are games I think we win. Against Wisconsin Tommy completed like 30% of his passes or something. I think we win that game too. Are there games we lose with mannion? Maybe there are... I just see a lot more wins with mannion than what we had this year.

Not a total knock on Tommy either... I believe we will see a much better and more composed Tommy this year. First year in this system, however, was not always kind to him.

I can't argue that point... I just think mannion would have been smarter with the ball. Maybe that means conservative, and we lose to teams like Michigan state... I don't know.

Not sure what to say about this. I've been informed that Langsdorf, like all of Riley's coaches, is only here to ride out the string and collect a paycheck. This must be photoshopped or something.

Good points all around. I think, and I love Tommy, some of those 21 INT's put the D in tough spots and can't be blamed on the O line. With a NFL QB maybe its enough to win those close games. Its just a debate and we can never know, good off season talk.

I love a running QB (not to be mistaken for a RB playing the QB position) as it adds another dimension to an offense.

A prostyle QB loses that threat of the QB run, which did us a lot of good in many games, but on the other hand, that prostyle QB probably gets the ball to more of our playmakers.

So many skilled WRs on the team that a better passer could have done more with. We need to utilize our skill position players more. The lack of a pass threat in some games really hurt and allowed the defense to stack the box, making our RBs look less than average.

Our starters at RB were less than average. I know the O-Line didn't help, but Cross and Newby weren't awesome. Defense had some rough areas too. IMO we would've definitely won a few more games with a pro-style guy back there. At least would've cut down on turnovers. Hopefully.

Having both safeties out of the box will do wonders for our run game. A back like Ozighbo will excel with open spaces.

Our receivers need to catch the ball more consistently as well. They left a lot of plays on the field as well. Hitting you in the numbers is the same no matter the QB.

I wonder how many tries it took him to throw the ball 40 yards into the basket. That was impressive.

Tommy did it in 747 tries. Then he said it was a stupid drill because receivers don't just stand there waiting for the ball...

ZDar did it in 89 tries.

AJ Bush did it in 343 tries.

POB was told by the fans that he was so good that he could do it blindfolded...DL made him take it off after he ended up hitting Tommy in the side of the head (POB swears he couldn't see through the blindfold). He then proceeded to make it twice in a row after missing 36 times.

Mannion did it his first try, but missed the next 22 before making it again for the video as the camera wasn't recording yet when he started...DL was so mad at the guy recording as it was making Mannion look bad in front of the other Husker QBs since DL told them that he could coach them to make it one out of every 5 tries.

I know your sarcastic but if he is indeed calling plays you cannot honestly be happy with the play calling --- it left a lot to be desired and Even an expert such as yourself can admit it was a lot of square peg/round hole throughout year. I am happy the last game was his finest hour as a Nebraska OC

I have no bones with Langsdorf, hes a elite QB coach and so far appears to be a good OC (take note, he was learning about his team this year just like our players where learning about him...so we have to see how year 2 and 3 do for him). All hes doing is trying to make the defenses have to guess, respect the pass at all times even at a 3 and 2 down. With QB that was coachable at those times would of hit a wide open TE or placed the ball in a good spot against 1 on 1 coverage. I really feel once Langsdorf gets his QBs up to speed and firing on all cylinders, we will have one of the best if not the best Offense in the Big 10 at the least and one of the best in the country. Once that happens, im curious how long Langsdorf stays? Will he bail out to the NFL or take a head coaching job else wheres in the NCAA? And when he does go we will all miss him dearly because he will be hard to replace.

I think Tommy's running ability opened up a few things and helped make DL look better when his number was called to run. Tommy is a tough runner and he had quite a few good runs while not being afraid of taking a hit.

If we had a statue pro-style QB, I think the offense isn't as potent as it could be, whereas a pro-style QB with an above average running/scrambling ability opens up that other dimension that so many teams have issues trying to stop.

Hopefully POB and future QBs have the ability to scramble, keep the ball on a zone read, and get tough yards with their feet when needed.

We already learned that DL isn't afraid to insert new plays into his playbook when he sees a good play and use similar plays to that of Beck's offense when it fits his players strengths. Lets just hope he continues to be open-minded and flexible in his offense.

Yea I said that every time I heard about the few sacks our oline gave up. Towards the end though Tommie probably bailed too quickly much of the time and didn't step up into the pocket as he should have.
