He wants to play and seems to be one of a few lone advocates within the BIG Coaching ranks.

Agreed.... Nebraska (and to a lesser extent OSU) pulled a Pelosi and defied orders
I'll wait until he manages at least a .500 winning percentage before I entertain the idea, but I'm rooting for it.
My guess is many coaches want to play but at the same time they know the stance of their presidents. Why stir the pot and go against them in public? Coaches didn't get to decide this and although admirable for sticking up for players, it can create unnecessary friction. They are supposed to be a team as well
Agree, it is much easier to scream and holler for a season when your President "voted" to have a season than it is to do the same when your President "voted" against
