Man, people really are choosing not to see the forest through the trees on this thing. Of course a simple paraphernalia charge wouldn't be enough to kick someone off the team in a normal situation. But he was very much NOT in a normal situation, by a LONG shot. His status on the team was presumably already teetering on the brink from the fact that he's facing felony charges that haven't been resolved in any way yet.

Whether this is enough to push it over, we'll see. But it's not because Frost or any NU fans demonize weed, that's laughable. It's because Mo f*cked up in a monumental way during extremely precarious circumstances.

Yep...the weed thing is laughable. I’d never look down on someone for weed in any situation. But it definitely wasn’t the best timing...that’s for sure. Frost and Moos will do what’s best for the team. I truly believe that...if that’s keeping him or not.

I took a 30-something relative to a game and he asked me if Memorial Stadium is the same as when I was a student. I told him pretty much except for the screens, the upper deck and the students used to sit on the 50 yard line and there was a cloud of cigarette and pot smoke over that section. The stadium and campus for that matter was a lot different in the 70s when many of us only wanted to go through life rocking and rolling all night, and partying every day. People didn't openly smoke bongs in the stadium or anything like that, but we had little pipes or took a few puffs off a joint and then put it in a metal 35mm film container so it would extinguish and be ready for halftime.

He was not underage a few months ago and he was not underage over a year ago when he sent the video. The age of majority in California is 18.

Legal Definition of age of majority

: the age at which a person is granted by law the rights (as ability to sue) and responsibilities (as liability under contract) of an adult
    — called also full age

NOTE: Age of majority is set by statute, in most states at 18. The age at which a person may perform various acts, as legally drink alcoholic beverages or make a valid will, does not necessarily correspond with the age of majority.

I think the main issue is not just the smoking of weed. Yes, many college students/ athletes do it. Not a huge deal. The issue is his history of making bad decisions and not seeming to learn from them. Common sense says, if one is charged with another crime already most are going to be damn sure to do everything possible to not be charged with another one. Hence, learning from their mistakes.
I have no issue with him smoking weed. He is an idiot for doing in the dorms, but whatever. I think his porn charge is BS and should be dismissed. The issues is the combination of the crimes and continuing to make selfish decision. Putting his own wants, needs, and emotions over what might be better for his teammates and coaches.

Okay. So, if he received a ticket, what is that equivalent to? I don't know, so I'm hoping someone can fill me in. Is it equivalent to him being cited for consumption of alcohol in public? Is it equivalent to driving 20 MPH over the speed limit?

If this were the same case except it were alcohol-related instead of marijuana-related, would we be looking at this differently? I wonder if the pot stigma is shaping the way some people view this.

Before you go tell me, "well it's illegal, so you shouldn't do it." I understand it's illegal, but it's not actually illegal for any good reason when compared to tobacco or alcohol. Think about this - somehow, marijuana is still a Schedule I drug, alongside heroin, LSD, and ecstasy even though it has been approved for medical use. Straight from the DEA website:

"The abuse rate is a determinate factor in the scheduling of the drug; for example, Schedule I drugs have a high potential for abuse and the potential to create severe psychological and/or physical dependence.

Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse."

Dilaudid, vicodin, meth, cocaine, demerol, fentynl are all Schedule II drugs. Let that sink in. Anyone who works as a healthcare provider knows patients come in asking for this stuff ALL THE TIME. Guess what happens when you tell them "no". They have a typical addict response: they get angry and manipulative.

If anyone understands how much of a problem long-term use of an anti-depressant similar to Xanax can cause, then they would also be shocked to know that Xanax is a schedule IV drug: "Schedule IV drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence."

Mo's next court date in California is exactly one week from today (Wednesday) on June 12.

P.S. Interesting to note that I haven't seen anything being said about his room mates. Who are they? Players on the football team as well? None of them charged for anything?

I can agree with that. Frost is around him day and and day out. In my opinion he should probably be kicked off the team for continuing to make bad choices. I think Frost knows better than any of us what is best for the team and for Mo. If he thinks kicking him off is the best so be it. If he thinks keeping him is best I am fine with that as well.

Some people call me the space cowboy
    Yeah
Some call me the gangster of love
    Some people call me Maurice
'Cause I speak of the pompatus of love

    People talk about me baby
Say I'm doin' you wrong doin' you wrong
Well don't you worry baby don't worry
'Cause I'm right here right here right here right here at home

    'Cause I'm a picker
    I'm a grinner
    I'm a lover and I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun

    I'm a joker
    I'm a smoker
    I'm a midnight toker
I sure don't want to hurt no one

That is correct and he was still in California when he sent the video. So under California law he is an adult and is responsible for his actions under those laws. The age of majority in Nebraska is 19, but our laws are not relevant to this case because the crime was not committed in this state.

I get it, but you're comparing a heroine addiction to a need for a heater or that first cup of coffee.

I would say 25% is probably the low end with 50% being the high.

You're the cutest thing that I ever did see
    I really love your peaches
    Want to shake your tree
Lovey dovey, lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time
Ooh wee baby, I sure show you a good time

And if he'd sent this text to the girl instead of the video, he wouldn't be in this legal jam right now.

I was comparing caffeine and nicotine to marijuana. The former(s) are much more addictive. Cessation of either will bring out the rage.

Our personal views on weed really irrelevant (I smoked my share in high school/college). It is currently illegal in this state (like it or not). Whether or not it is legal in other states is irrelevant. A parallel example would be concealed carry laws. If I carry and get caught in a state where it is not legal, I'm in big trouble. Doesn't matter than I can do it in Nebraska.

It is most certainly against team rules which Mo is no doubt aware of. Actions have consequences. I can get away with drinking and driving, but if I get caught, well, I pay the price. That's on me.

If Frost decides to cut ties, Mo has no one to blame but himself. As the song says, "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime."

And once again, I guess in this country you are now guilty until proven innocent - How do you know this was the case and how do you know he even smokes maybe it was a visitor or one of his room-mates - but instead we assume he is a bad kid

I believe he had some troubles at the Texas high school and had already returned to CA by that time. Thus the reason he asked if she would like to get together and have sex. It would have been difficult for them to hookup if he was in TX and her in CA. I also think if he was in TX, then there would have been a felony charge for sending child porn across state lines. Just because it is electronic doesn’t mean it is any different then sending a VHS or DVD through the mail. So even if he was in TX he broke laws in CA by sending it to someone in CA.

Not that it matters. But he signed his LOI in February of 2018. Sent the video in March. And was expelled in May. So I'm guessing he was in Texas when he sent the video.

Texas public schools have their Spring Break in March, as do most school districts across this country. So he was probably back home in Cali on Spring Break. Because the video was sent, along with some nasty texts, after she rebuffed his sexual advances.

The founders weren't rebelling for the sake of rebelling for one.

Two, smoking pot is not getting into your house, food, or guns.

You don't need pot to survive.

The British crown was trying to enact laws that would make it illegal to sell guns in the colonies which would have made it impossible for us to defend ourselves. They were forcing us to shelter King Georgies troops. The crown refused us representation in the British parliament and taxing us in ever new and enterprising ways thus making us slaves instead of citizens. So we rebelled.

But they did use a lot of hemp back in the day....for rope, paper, cloth and other products. So you've got that rolling in your libre cannabis notion.

I've also witnessed MJ bring out the rage in people if they can't get it. Contrary to what many assume, MJ can be highly addictive and life-altering in a bad way. In these instances, it has affected not just the user, but their family and friends.
