Man, people really are choosing not to see the forest through the trees on this thing. Of course a simple paraphernalia charge wouldn't be enough to kick someone off the team in a normal situation. But he was very much NOT in a normal situation, by a LONG shot. His status on the team was presumably already teetering on the brink from the fact that he's facing felony charges that haven't been resolved in any way yet.

Whether this is enough to push it over, we'll see. But it's not because Frost or any NU fans demonize weed, that's laughable. It's because Mo f*cked up in a monumental way during extremely precarious circumstances.

I took a 30-something relative to a game and he asked me if Memorial Stadium is the same as when I was a student. I told him pretty much except for the screens, the upper deck and the students used to sit on the 50 yard line and there was a cloud of cigarette and pot smoke over that section. The stadium and campus for that matter was a lot different in the 70s when many of us only wanted to go through life rocking and rolling all night, and partying every day. People didn't openly smoke bongs in the stadium or anything like that, but we had little pipes or took a few puffs off a joint and then put it in a metal 35mm film container so it would extinguish and be ready for halftime.

g pot will not change the outcome of the trial on revenge porn. He will plea it down to a manageable misdemeanor. Why are we overreacting here? Is he 19? Yes. Are 19 year old students stupid at times? Yes. Do grown adults overreact and say ridiculous things on the internet? Duhhhhhh....

I think the main issue is not just the smoking of weed. Yes, many college students/ athletes do it. Not a huge deal. The issue is his history of making bad decisions and not seeming to learn from them. Common sense says, if one is charged with another crime already most are going to be damn sure to do everything possible to not be charged with another one. Hence, learning from their mistakes.
I have no issue with him smoking weed. He is an idiot for doing in the dorms, but whatever. I think his porn charge is BS and should be dismissed. The issues is the combination of the crimes and continuing to make selfish decision. Putting his own wants, needs, and emotions over what might be better for his teammates and coaches.

If this were the same case except it were alcohol-related instead of marijuana-related, would we be looking at this differently? I wonder if the pot stigma is shaping the way some people view this.

Before you go tell me, "well it's illegal, so you shouldn't do it." I understand it's illegal, but it's not actually illegal for any good reason when compared to tobacco or alcohol. Think about this - somehow, marijuana is still a Schedule I drug, alongside heroin, LSD, and ecstasy even though it has been approved for medical use. Straight from the DEA website:

"The abuse rate is a determinate factor in the scheduling of the drug; for example, Schedule I drugs have a high potential for abuse and the potential to create severe psychological and/or physical dependence.

Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse."

Dilaudid, vicodin, meth, cocaine, demerol, fentynl are all Schedule II drugs. Let that sink in. Anyone who works as a healthcare provider knows patients come in asking for this stuff ALL THE TIME. Guess what happens when you tell them "no". They have a typical addict response: they get angry and manipulative.

If anyone understands how much of a problem long-term use of an anti-depressant similar to Xanax can cause, then they would also be shocked to know that Xanax is a schedule IV drug: "Schedule IV drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence."

But when you're facing legal issues, it's pretty dumb to do something that you know is illegal and could get you into more trouble. So to me it's not the two acts, but the pattern of poor decision making by Mo. I don't see how Frost can allow him to stay on the team at this point. One can't preach about doing things the right way, wanting high character players, etc., and let this slide.

I can agree with that. Frost is around him day and and day out. In my opinion he should probably be kicked off the team for continuing to make bad choices. I think Frost knows better than any of us what is best for the team and for Mo. If he thinks kicking him off is the best so be it. If he thinks keeping him is best I am fine with that as well.

Our personal views on weed really irrelevant (I smoked my share in high school/college). It is currently illegal in this state (like it or not). Whether or not it is legal in other states is irrelevant. A parallel example would be concealed carry laws. If I carry and get caught in a state where it is not legal, I'm in big trouble. Doesn't matter than I can do it in Nebraska.

It is most certainly against team rules which Mo is no doubt aware of. Actions have consequences. I can get away with drinking and driving, but if I get caught, well, I pay the price. That's on me.

If Frost decides to cut ties, Mo has no one to blame but himself. As the song says, "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime."

Texas public schools have their Spring Break in March, as do most school districts across this country. So he was probably back home in Cali on Spring Break. Because the video was sent, along with some nasty texts, after she rebuffed his sexual advances.
