Say It Ain't So Mo

Ok a couple of thoughts:

1.) Weed should be legal. Plain and simple. It's way better for any athlete than a prescribed opiod painkiller is. Plus, the stuff is less bad and less destructive than alcohol. AND what, 20+ states have it either fully legalized or decriminalized and allow medicinal anyway? BUT, that's on both the Federal government to decriminalize it (not likely with this administration) and/or the State of Nebraska to make it legal (also, not likely with this dickhead governor).

2.) I don't want to see a talent like his go, but I agree with everyone here talking about context: you are already in legal trouble for some serious shit in California, dude. Get better at hiding your shit or don't smoke weed while you're under a microscope.

Conclusion: I don't want to see him go, but if the team or the coaching staff decide it's time, I understand 100% and support it. He seems like he has a lot of behavioral problems.

Maybe I don't know the entire story but did the cali thing happen before he was on the team? If so, I don't like punishing a player for something that happened when he was not on the team. I don't think that is right.

But like I said, I don't know the entire story and really I don't care. If the kid helps NU win games and me cover my bets, I am fine with it. I don't take pot but I sure as hell don't care if some 19 year old does. Just like I don't care if all the kids on the team end up being doctors. None of this impacts my life.

The child porn stuff didn't happen at Nebraska. But the headlines don't say former California and Texas high school player charged with child porn and revenge porn. The perception is that he is a football player at Nebraska and he sent an illegal video to a girl. Now in the midst of the trial for those charges, he gets charged with this.

I get what you are saying, and I think the fact that you have an opinion that it doesn't impact your life, impacts your point of view on the charges. To you this possession of the pipe charge isn't a big deal. And in reality it isn't, but coupled with the other charges has an accumulative affect.

When you are on parole for a conviction, getting busted for something as simple as drinking, if not drinking is a condition of your parole, can get you back in jail. Drinking isn't a big deal, unless you aren't suppose to be drinking.

Yeah, I get that part but it has never bothered me that the media says "Nebraska player"

But, I don't get bothered by much.

And thanks for the info, I know you have followed it pretty close so I know you know what you are talking about it.

I have to wonder how many posters here have ever smoked pot in their lives? Just seems like a lot of folks passing a very negative judgment in this thread so I assume none of the posters here have ever done it. Right?

FWIW - Recreational marijuana also is now fully legal in 11 states including California where he faces a court appointment in a week.

Its STILL against the law in Nebraska. Stop trying to justify his behavior. What's wrong with being law-abiding instead of trying to change the laws? He's problematic and has to go. He's another Lawrence Phillips awaiting something worse...

This is clearly the head coach's responsibility. You don't pay a coach millions of dollars to delegate disciplinary decisions to the students.

Do you pay a coach millions of dollars to worry about what basically amounts to a traffic ticket?

Probably won't be illegal much longer with the petition to legalize likely on the 2020 ballots.

Selfishly, the sooner edibles are legalized the better. Love how much they reduce my chronic knee and ankle pains. Plus don't have to deal with the smell.

What's up with that hideous avatar? Lose a bet?

unfortunately this isn't about the weed. That isn't what would lead to his dismissal. It is the fact that he doesn't seem to be able to make good decisions. The pipe possession charge isn't what would get him dismissed, it is the series of bad decisions.
I don’t understand why people don’t get this point.
I think the staff has to let the legal matter in CA just play out and hope for the best, as the actions at issue took place before he made it to Lincoln. He now has a legal issue that puts him in violation of team rules while on the roster. Until Mo begins to work on Mo, he is at risk of being “processed”. And no amount of excuse making changes that.

Possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, are violations of the Nebraska criminal code. The state of Nebraska has deemed these offenses to be crimes.

Do you pay a coach millions of dollars to worry about what basically amounts to a traffic ticket?
A traffic ticket is not a criminal offense.

Hope that helps.

I never said the pot charge will affect the child porn trial. I said, doing stupid shit when you are on trial for doing other stupid shit is about as stupid as you can get. There is no overreacting, just opinions that differ from yours.

Right. Agreed.

I did say overreacting. My opinion as well.

I remember the age of 19 quite fondly. So many screwups. :D

So, driving 100 in a school zone is not a criminal offense?

Dang!

ESPECIALLY in Nebraska. We are one of the most taxed states but because King TO says so we cant legalize weed and give the potheads what they want and everyone else some much need tax breaks. I love my Huskers but I'll be leaving asap for somewhere that doesnt bleed their tax payers dry.
Tax is a piss poor reason to legalize anything. It's the right thing to do or it isn't.

I partake. But because I do, I also know that is is actually not difficult to abstain from doing so. And when a player is dealing with an ongoing legal matter, maybe it’s best to put down the pipe. Or go to a more secure location than your dorm room. Or get a vape pen. Or have an edible. Blazing up on campus say F you, I’m the shit. Mo first, team second.

That's the whole reason we're discussing any of this right now. Did you forget?

Wait...do you are mad at him and want him off the team because of a trial that has yet to happen with the verdict still in doubt...BECAUSE he had a pipe in his dorm room?

Good lord.

Just added context:
We could imagine Scott sat down with Mo after the Cali issue. Without mixing words he may have made it pretty clear to Mo that he would be on thin ice going forward and what the expectations were.
I see Mo’s action as a direct insult to Scott and the team if that conversation did happen (I think it almost certainly did).
I guess that’s my whole angle on the matter.
