Shit happens and timing is a big deal. Sure it wasn't the best way but I had to do the same on Wed. Are we upgrading the position or not?
This is just a rumor until it is substantiated. Don't believe everything you read in the OWH or from McKewon.

Quotes from Banker himself in the article, Banker says it was "weird" and indicated that it should have been face to face

Who is the "him" in the"if it's hard on him" part? Eichorst or Riley? I assume Riley.

I know that we had to move quickly to get Diaco, but I agree that it is a weird thing to do to a friend you've worked with for 20 years.

Riley was prob on the road, they had a chance at Diaco, AD said we need to move, make it happen.

I have fired many friends and it is never easy, f2f or over phone neither is fun. Still friends with each and it isn't discussed. Sure Banker was not happy, none are. If you bring someone in I always tell them up front, if it is not working I have a job to do, they respect that.
Mike Riley chooses who to hire and fire.
When you get fired and then run to the media like this it can get nasty. Riley will handle this like a pro. I get that Banker is upset. I also get that Sam and Kneepads are hacks who didn't bother corroborating the story and get the other side from Riley. Could have kept some ugly business behind closed doors.

Let's see how many mouth breathers come in this thread and admit they were wrong about this being a "2-year mutual plan". I absolutely love that Banker reached out to McKewon. And I double that love to McKewon ran with it without reaching out to Riley.
Two sides to every story, and I'm certain McKewon ran something that doesn't explain the entire situation.
With that said, there was no time to do it face to face. Banker was in Oregon, sitting in the Denver airport and we had to act extremely fast to assure the Diaco hire. There wasn't any time to wait a couple hours for Banker to fly back to Lincoln, but I guess Riley could've flown to Denver to fire him (tin foil).
