Here are some quick notes and observations to pass along from Nebraska's full-padded practice on Saturday afternoon. Click the link for our full Saturday practice notebook...
***Head coach Mike Riley gave injury updates on cornerbacks Daniel Davie and Charles Jackson, who both suffered injuries during Wednesday's practice and sat out of Saturday's session. Riley said Jackson was going to have his left knee scoped soon, but the good news was the early diagnosis was that the injury wasn't too severe. Riley said Jackson should be back to 100 percent by the start of the season. Davie suffered an ankle sprain and was in a protective boot, but Riley said Davie should be back in action after spring break.
***Other players who sat out of Saturday's practice were Jordan Westerkamp (hamstring), De'Mornay Pierson-El (hamstring), Zach Sterup, Jamal Turner, David Santos, Joe Keels, Lane Hovey and Jared Blum.
***Saturday marked the first day of the spring that Nebraska practiced together as a full team rather than the Red/White squad setup it's used the rest of this week. Riley said he planned to use the same one-team format again on Monday and then he would take a look at the film to see if they will stick with it for the remainder of the spring.
***Former Huskers Tommie Frazier, Kris Brown and Clester Johnson all took in Saturday's practice. Riley said he loves seeing former players come back to see the program and made it a point to visit with each player during practice.
***Nebraska also had several recruits in attendance as part of the the team's Junior Day event.
***Riley was asked which players have really emerged as leaders through the first week of practice, and he pointed to guys like Maliek Collins, Jack Gangwish, Nate Gerry and a number of offensive linemen.
