I just read an article about the running backs:

* The Huskers continue to rotate four running backs -- Tre Bryant, Devine Ozigbo, Mikale Wilbon and Jaylin Bradley.

"We've been able to get Jaylin Bradley some work, and that's been fun to see," NU offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf said. He added Bradley has looked good catching the ball.

Langsdorf said there is very little separation between the running backs.

"Until we put the pads on and really hit, that will clean itself up," he said.

Langsdorf said he'd like to see one player take off with the starting running back spot.

So why no mention of Wyatt Mazour?

Another article stated that he was ready to make his move this fall.

Is he going to get his chance? Probably. It's nice for coaches to be able to see what the incoming freshmen are capable of doing, so in that sense this is nothing to worry about, but it just surprised me that they are rotating 4 backs and Mazour was not one of them.

If he actually is as good as he looked in the spring game, surely he will work his way into a role.

Is Mazour on the 105? Could be a numbers game, they're confident with what they've got in him and he can stay on the shelf until they're allowed to practice more guys.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it in week one of fall camp while they're in helmets and shorts. I think Jaylin Bradley is an absolute steal and they probably want to see what they've got with him early on to assess whether he plays or takes a RS year.

Really you don't know exactly what you're going to get out of any of those 4 backs they mentioned. They've all got a lot to prove.

Because it was the Spring Game

How bad has Adam Taylor played that he is beaten out by a true freshman? Is he just not even on the team anymore and mistakenly listed on the roster?

Is he the one who broke his leg and was just never the same? What was the other dude's name, the RB was was gonna be the second coming then he got some crazy leg infection?

I do not believe Adam is on the 105, so he isn't at practice until school starts.

I saw him at a gym I go to near Katy a few weeks ago. Since I am a grown ass man, I didn't interrupt his workout to play fan boy and ask him all kinds of questions. He was, however, decked out in all Nebraska and Adidas stuff.

He contributed on special teams the last couple years.

Yes he had an ankle and leg injuries, suffered before his RS freshman year and hasn't been the same since. Very good chemistry guy, just does his work. May have been scout team MVP his true freshman year. A little foggy on that though.

I recall a lot of noise about him being a monster in practice, then he snapped his twig and never got right. Shame, glad to hear he's a good dude. He'll get an education out of the deal.

Speaking of running backs it appears walk on Tanner Hass has been moved to safety. Also on the 105 and may factor in special teams.
Mazour omisssion is probably nothing, still a factor in return game.
Bradley must be the real deal, folks. Not surprised, but surprised it happened this early.

Who knows as it is the first week, but whether it be him or another back, someone needs to step their butt up and become an all conference type back.

I am all for that. Whether they contribute or not, they need to follow through and graduate/finish their education.

On the other side of it, sometimes those players should maybe only get 4 years of football scholarship if they are not contributing on ST or the 2-deep. Be a walk-on your 5th year senior year if you want to still be on the team, but allow the coaches to pass on your scholarship to a walk-on or another incoming recruit that is or will be a contributor.

Here's the deal though. We've pretty commonly had 3 RBs get knicked up during the season sometimes all at the same time. Adam knows the offense. Bradley doesn't. Let the young guy get the reps in early camp, but IF push came to shove from what I've seen Adam could play successfully for us. He isn't going to juke anybody or outrun anybody but in a pinch I think he could be solid. Hopefully it doesn't get that far down the depth chart but he isn't a bad insurance policy and he'll still play special teams.

Would not surprise me at all if Jaylin keeps getting more and more PT if he continues to pick things up.

The video from DL talking about Jaylin here:

Damon Benning seems to like him quite a bit, but he's the only one I've really ever heard mention him.

Translation from Langs about Jaylin performing well: Other running backs need to step up.

Disclaimer: Jaylin Bradley may get a few carries/dump passes this year if they decide not to redshirt him. If they decide not to redshirt him, that's serious.

Good point.

Yes they do! and step up in a big way.

It would be serious, considering that there are the top 3, then Mazour, Rose and Taylor.

He would either be that damn good, or the 3-6 RB positions need a huge talent bump going into the future.

Absolutely. There's no beating around the bush on that either—we have to be able to run the ball well in the Big Ten. I am also the furthest thing from a "run the ball" homer.

I'm open to anything that scores us points. I am very excited and intrigued to see how our offense operates this season with more of an air raid and pro style approach, but we will have to run the ball well at some point this season. I am not going to bring Reggie Davis into this because I believe he is a good educator and teacher of the position. I think we will be okay at the RB position but we have to beat a quality opponent and have a better season for a RB recruit to want to come run here due to the WRs that will get a lot of the credit (and rightfully so).

BTW "in the mix" is fast becoming my new favorite coachspeak phrase for this staff.

In the proud tradition of "swimming in it," "doing some good things," and "moving around well."

Not a bad thing to have these kind of guys around. Similar to Collins Okafor: Didn't contribute statistically a ton, but was a trusted player in the locker room and weight room by players and coaches alike.
