Ronald Delancy N

We will definitely take him. He is a 3 star on ESPN and 24/7. And only a notch difference from Decap Bootle on Rivals. We can never have enough depth in the secondary. GBR

what ever your mind can come up with play boy. Lol. Jeez :) I actually thought it was pretty obvious my point...but hey, maybe it’s not. Let your mind run wild ;)

It’s not obvious ... please enlighten.

Surely your point isn’t. player x was ranked here and player y is ranked about the same and therefore they will perform about the same.

He's got some really good highlights, is he just not super explosive athletically and that's why his rating isn't higher? Or he's not really on the camp circuit or what?

Looks like some really alert, high-effort plays on his film to my eye. Admittedly I'm not a DB coach so I don't know what exactly I'm looking for.

We need highly-rated 4-star players, not 2 & 3 stars if we want to win the Big Ten West. Every player looks good on film when you're a 2-3 star player. Let's see if Delancy can make a difference or he sits on the bench.

No we don’t. The teams we’re competing against in the West don’t have them

No, not every 2-3* looks good on film. I've seen film on higher rated kids that didn't impress me at all. That kid who was the OLB last year we didn't end up taking is an example. His film gave me no idea if he's actually a good player or just a better athlete than everyone else, was just him running around untouched and getting easy tackles.

This kid you put on his highlight and it's him making a lot of plays that aren't just him being bigger/faster/stronger than other HS kids. He's beating blocks, making one-on-one tackles in the open field in the flat, blocking kicks, making INTs, running back INTs for touchdowns. Kid is balling in his highlight.

There is still such a thing as a kid who ends up under the radar or is a late bloomer, even in the day and age. I'm seeing a lot of smart, aggressive, effort plays on his film so if you told me he was a high 3* I'd believe you. I feel a lot happier after actually seeing some video on him than if I just look at a 2-5 number and don't bother switching my brain on to do any analysis.

Like I said before, if the staff likes the occasional kid who isn't a Top250 kid I trust them. If we have a 40th ranked class and we're over here blabbing like stars don't mean nothin' no way that's when we have a problem.

since everyone cares, how about we all post our specific concerns below. this way, they're all in one place when Coach Frost comes to the board for his daily check in.

I'll start: I'm generally concerned that grown men post their concerns about 17 year old kids, about whom they know less than they know about the sport they're coming to NU to play, as if there is one single person who gives a sh*t.

I love the 5’11-6 foot height and another CB from Florida. Our last guy like this (Bootle) was a 5.5 3 star and ended up being a very solid to good Corner. And if he doesn’t pan out, we did get Henry Gray, Tamon Lynum, G White, Q Newsome, M Farmer and N Pola-Gates. He can add some well coached depth. So a good get one way or another. Myself, I’d rather add him then fill those needs with walk ons.

Or...you could concern yourself with a player's ability to cover, his quickness, his physicality, and his fluidity.. And perhaps the fact that we've had very few 2-stars start for us since 2002, and ZERO that have become All Conference, other than a kicker or punter.

But that's just me. For some silly reason, I take note of those meaningless items.

@Hoosker Du concerning himself with a player's physicality & fluidity:

I like the gif...but if you're going to make silly comments, at least be able to support them. Not one 2-star has made All Conference since 2002, and actually, only about 20% have any starting experience, and the majority of those are kickers and punters.

Who knows. This kid may come in and be a world beater. But the odds are highly against it.

It honestly wouldn’t matter (hopefully), I’d hope Q Newsome, G White, Henry Gray and Lynum are holding down the main spots. Him and B Clark can give some solid depth at the worst case...fingers crossed.

Any time a kid comes out of high school all anyone can really go of off is ranking to compare apple to apples. Yes, there are no guarantees in the game of college football and recruiting. As we have found out to often, success and rankings in high school doesn't always translate to success in college. However rankings are as good as any place to start.

Well it appears LSU has a 2 star CB that’s tearing it up for them right now for them...so it’s definitely possible. Rivals claimed the LSU CB had academic issues and that’s why his recruitment never took off. Who knows, maybe it’s the same thing as R Delancy?

This. In my humble opinion, once you get beyond the top 20 recruiting classes in the nation, there isn’t much that separates a team ranking of 21st from the team ranked 41st. Player development and coaching are the bigger factors in that range. So the difference between a high three star and a low 4 star is negligible and often subjective.

Going to florida..Miami specifically for DBs is always a good idea. Him, Gray, and Lynum are great adds. We added big dbs last yr..this year we came back with some quick dbs. Gotta trust the overall plan.
