He is such a nice guy and has a good relationship with the press. He even started off by mentioning that they were going to ask him about all the good things they saw. He also spent some time saying it was good to get all different parts of the ball game in...like free kicks after safeties and getting the hands team on the field. His laughter with the press was affable.

But honestly, all of that rubbed me the wrong way. I wanted someone a bit ticked who would say this wasn't acceptable and it will get fixed.

I will say during the game I saw him get angry and pull his headset off twice. It was nice to see the fire I saw. I am sure he has his own way of getting across what he saw last night was not what he wants to see on the field. Lots of work to do. It's also nice not seeing someone go crazy on the sidelines ever again.

He looks like a coach relieved to get a win against a dangerous opponent knowing they were going to try to get the win by doing all little as possible, in order to not help an even more dangerous team prepare for his team next week.

What a concept. Like that's never been done before. But I guess the coaches should have shown everything in week 1 to try to get a shut out and make the fans happy at least for 6 days.

Yep ... Looking forward to great things against Oregon so everyone can see what an anomaly this game was.

He is who he is. You want someone to be ticked, but that isn't Mike Riley. Maybe we will hear something like this from Diaco at some point this week, but I'm not sure you will ever hear it from Riley. It's just not his MO.

Love how there is no in between...shut out or give up 30 to a sun belt team. Nope, no in between.

He knows what's up. He just won't throw a tantrum about it either. Oregon can't come fast enough. I'd like to see what kind of team and coaches we have here. This Saturday will be revealing.

What's the point of him being angry with media and showing that he's mad in a press conference? Those guys have nothing to do with the game. I love his approach. Just because that's what he shows in the press conference doesn't mean that's how he addresses the issues with the team. It's not like he tried to sugar coat the bad things and pretend everything is ok. He's just a well adjusted adult that can separate and process his displeasure in a healthy way instead of being a knuckle dragging dick like we are used to

As I have grown as a leader in the business world I find being a "good guy" and talking my people up all the time, but expressing "disappointment" behind closed doors when they loaf or screw up is far far more effective than being ticked off. IMHO people will try much harder for someone they like/respect they don't want to disappoint than someone they fear.

That being said, I would have preferred sooner diagnosis of the screens and a dominate O-Line and offensive philosophy to finish the game by imposing NU's will by rushing would make it not even necessary to have this conversation.

He needs to throw out a couple "what do you think?" Quotes to show he cares.

This "do as little as possible" philosophy should have gone out the window at half-time. If they were still thinking about Oregon at that point something is very, very wrong.

I think people are just looking to pile on at this point. Everyone reacts differently to stuff. Announcers already pointed out how upset Mike Riley was (for Riley) at the situation. Can't do anymore than that.

If you want him to act like Saban...hire Saban.

If we win by 2 scores, or he goes 9-3, no one cares how he wins the PC.

Who said I expect great things? I just find it comical what people expected in game 1 after a complete scheme change. I expect more variety next week. The results?????

Oh, I would agree. I liked Osborne who was always focused upon playing as well as we could...escaping with a win wasn't a jovial thing. Tom could be surly after winning by 30 if he thought the team didn't play well. It was always about the process to him. I think that is why he eventually go over the hump.

I think Riley wants to win too, hence last year's firings. But he seemed at a loss at explaining what we tried to did differently to stop Arkansas State in the second half. We still gave over 200 yards in that half.

And you wouldn't be the first one bitching next week if they showed everything yesterday, and then lost to Oregon because they had a week to prepare?

I'm guessing they showed more than they wanted to in the 3rd and shut them out in that quarter. Then didn't do a good job offensively putting it out of hand in the late 4th.

I really like Riley's demeanor with the press. Like others have said, he was very animated during the game a couple of times. Not to the point of pissing himself or spitting all over the refs but for Riley pretty fired up. He understands the press isn't the enemy and is only pointing out things everyone can see with their own 2 eyes, so no point in attacking them about asking the questions. We had a guy who was always pissed and always saying - we'll get it cleaned up or we'll get it fixed and then never did.

I guess it's inevitable that the comparison is to Bo but that's an awful lot like tilting at windmills. NOBODY wants Bo and his demeanor back.

I don't care what his demeanor is as long as he wins games. I hardly cared about pelini on the sideline and would've somehow cared even less if he was more successful. If we win games, no one cares about this stuff. It's nice to have a coach that's a grown up but if he loses games he shouldn't it doesn't matter one bit.

This whole "Diaco didn't want to tip his hand" narrative is laughable. Taggart knows Diaco's scheme, his USF teams beat UConn the last two seasons.

Exactly...This is how lame some Husker fans have become. Stop pretending like you care how the coach acts. If they win...that is what we all care about it.

Heck, now people e are jumping on Riley for being nice and polite.

My gawd. So to expect to beat ark state by more than a touchdown is too high of expectations because of a stupid scheme change.
Quit it.

Arkansas state was out of it until we made a bunch of mistakes at the end. They scored 3 points in the second half for the first 29 minutes. Only in the final minute did they score and get an onside kick, making it too close for comfort.

If we take care of business we win by 2 or 3 touchdowns, like you were expecting.

Now that didn't happen, but we weren't far off from it. Clean up the mistakes (and maybe we don't, because Riley historically seems to make the same mistakes) and we look a lot better.

It remains to be seen if we clean up the mistakes going into next week.

Me quit it? I expected ASU to score points. I said 24. It's in the game thread. When Nebraska got the late safety, I wanted Nebraska to score another TD and take their will (and potentially win me 50 bucks) and make the score 50-29 with little time left.

There's more reasons that ASU was in position to tie or win the game late than just the Defense.

Yes there are more reasons. doesnt mean fans cant be upset.
I also thought you said all those who were angry were expecting a shutout. Must be confusing your post with another.

Before people get upset they should ask themselves why are they seeing what they are seeing. A football season is a marathon not a sprint. If sacrificing scheme and barely squeaking out a victory yesterday gives the team a better chance to win next week I say F'ing A do it. Oh, and if it wasn't Oregon on the schedule next week, things probably would have been different.

Now if the D lines up and shows the same stuff next week (predictable coverages and blitzes over and over) I'll be the first one upset about it.

And you didn't confuse my post.

It was always about the process with Bo. Apparently that isn't some sort of magical secret sauce.
