If you've read any of my posts you know I have not been a fan of our Right Tackle play so far, in particular our starter. I went back over the game and without knowing the play calls it's pretty clear Conrad, the back up walk on, is our best option between him and Knevel. I hope he continues playing more as he did very well imo.

Seniors:
Whitaker (Starting OG right now)
Hahn (Starting OG right now)

Juniors:
Knevel (RS)
Hannon (RS)
Johnson Jr (RS)

Sophomores:
Gates (RS)
Conrad (RS)

Freshmen:
Gaylord (RS)
Farniok

Current Commits:
Jaimes
Sichterman
Bando

***After getting better info, the OT position is not as bad as it looked.

Will Hannon or Johnson Jr ever play? They are not listed on the depth chart.
So next year will only have 4 returning OTs total? Hope I am missing someone of substance.

The current commits better be ready to play in case of the damn injury bug!

Agreed. Noticed the same thing. Knevel may have lost his spot for the season to Conrad and we are better off for it.

Where are you getting your info from? This is all wrong. Knevel, Hannon, Gates, Conrad, Johnson JR, Gaylord and Farniok all return. We only lose Whitaker, Hahn and Utter. It's cool that Conrad is getting experience. If he continues to develop, we have him, Foster, Farmer and Gates for 2 more years. That's a good line up. Decker to probably take over center next year. Barnett needs to step up his game and get on the field next fall. Would like to see Raridon and Boe Wilson in the mix too.

Word is he's been nursing a bad ankle and just can't go right now that's why Conrad played.

Two players on your list are likely not back next year for their sr season, however. Neither have been on-field contributors throughout ther careers.

This. Sounds like it's been a nagging injury for some time that isn't getting better as fast as it should have. Hard to get a push with a bad wheel.

On this website, I clicked on Football and Roster and it brings up Yahoo Sports and yeah, the info is hard to read for me apparently...

The website on my computer is different than on my phone... same website, different words describing the player's year in school.

I will edit it!!

I don't think there is much hope for either contributing in the near future, Johnson Jr. hasn't even been on the 105 man roster the past couple off seasons.

Knevel was getting blown up, albeit blown up while fighting injury. Conrad did no better until they started using Whittaker to help out, TE to chip, or a RB to chip. The right side of the line played horribly the whole game.

To be fair, Smoot is going to cause troubles for a lot of RTs this year. Great pass rusher, excellent speed (was a Top 30 NCAA hurdler at one time), athletic. Also early projections of first or second round draft pick.

Except on Newby's TD run to seal the deal. Conrad destroyed his man on that play.

Not to mince words too much but it was a good block, but he hardly destroyed him. He simply let him go up field then helped him go a little further. Again nice block and sprung the long run just not quite a destruction.

Knevel has been bad all year. he plays patty cake and doesn't play with intensity of a B1G Right Tackle should.

Watching Knevel on the first drive of the game, and he looked like he was holding his own against Smoot. After that, not so much.
I feel for the staff. You look at Knevel and he passes the eye test as a tackle. But he seems to play stiff, and a little slow. Better at pass pro than run, but still gets beat too frequently on pass pro. Hopefully it starts clicking for him, because he just looks like pro tackle. There's time yet.

Conrad was getting beat plenty too, but at least he was usually able to keep some contact with his man, so it didn't look as bad.

I definitely hope Farmer is back soon. His run blocking makes me happy. Without him, that right side of the line is hurting.

Everyone has their favorites. Does not matter what position. David Knevel has had a hurt ankle for a few games now. He will heal up and be the starter for the Indiana game just as Tanner will be back at right guard.
I personally was happy that Mr. Whitaker and Mr. Conrad got some playing time. It should pay dividends if someone else gets hurt in the future. Which I hope does not happen, of course. As for who should play where ahead of who? I thought we were over this. Coach Cav has proven he knows who to play when. I too, had to learn that lesson, for sure. Will we be deeper next year? I should hope so. We will still be young for the most part, but have a lot of potential coming up. Same for guys committed. Potential!!! Everyone will root for their guy. Has always been that way. I watched a week of practice this spring. The young guy's who are redshirting are very HAPPY they are. Mr. Wilson told me personally he wanted, and needed to red shirt. Very smart young man. Their is alot of young talent for sure. Who progresses as much as we hope? Don't know. Some need to decide to crap or get off the pot, just as Tanner did. In the end, right now being 5-0, arguing who should be starting over who sounds pretty silly IMHO. As always. GBR

1. Knevel is playing hurt because we're so thin at tackle against a probable NFL draftee.
2. Conrad was playing in his FIRST game.
They did ok.

The staff at this point will do everything the can to protect presumptive redshirts. Its seems the kids are playing better generally and I suspect we will continue to see better play going forward. Two weeks to heal up for some of them.

Go rewatch the opening drive. Knevel was owning Smoot repeatedly. Please seriously go watch. And yeah, he did get beat twice. Smoot is probable first round pick.

He does have some repeated issues with communication and "over thinking" responsibilities. That's especially apparent with some misses between him the RG. That shit has to get cleaned up.

Communication is key. I have come to learn that the lineman communicating, or lack there of will either make a line look good or silly. Although Tanner and David have
a lot to learn, and I believe, a lot to accomplish, they communicate well. Just as Nick and Jerald did, do, will. When players do not play regularly with each other, that communication breaks down, and it shows quickly. I "believe" this is one of the reasons coach cav likes to keep the o-line the way he does, communication. Nick and Sam
have had to learn and build that communication since Jerald went down. All the lineman are going to make mistakes. Communicating will help keep them to a minimum.
As always, GBR

I thought I heard that he's been projected as a top 5 pick in the draft by Kiper.

Yes, and I would invite any fan who keeps trying to spin this anti-Knevel narrative to just go watch the first drive. Watch Knevel drive Smoot into the ground on the first few plays.

If you watch all 5 games and watch just Kneviel it's easy to see he is not playing well at all. He isn't aggressive and gets beat a lot. you can have your opinion I will have facts. I wish no I'll will toward him, I hope he gets better.

I watched these games with a former D1 linemen and he has shown me so much about tackle play. I would encourage you to watch all the games and focus on him. He doesn't play with balance, footwork is good on pass pro one on one but on run plays and zone blocking he doesn't follow the guards butt nor does he stick with the block. Plays too much with his hands, which are important, and not with his shoulders and hips.

I have, and your "buddy" wasn't as talented Knevel. He's inexperienced and has plenty of room for improvement. But the kid has one of the highest ceilings on the roster. People need to sit back and realize Nebraska is 5-0 while kids like Knevel, Farmer, the Davis twin and Stoltenburg are learning on the fly.

Its amazing you say that not knowing who my buddy is or how long he played in the NFL. You dont know what you don't know.

I'm going to call BS on this one… If your "friend" really played in the NFL, I'm sure you would've led with that the previous post. Not just that he was a D1 player.
