Whether he’s a Chess Master or below average player is still TBD here at Nebraska. But I’ll give credit where credit is due.

There is a reason he brought Snow in when he brought Holgersen in. Those were his guys. White was already gone. If he wasn’t, Rhule knew it was coming and set up a Plan B.

He had Butler here immediately following the needs to replace our DB coach. Those talks had happened long before.

It’s rare when Rhule gets caught blind. Guessing Knighton told him a bit ago he was going with White. The KC Assistant coach happened too quick for Rhule to not have known.

Pot Roast just publicly resigned and literally we have a new coach not long after? It didn’t just happen.

If only he would bring in a stud Special Teams coach. It’s unforgivable if Foley is still here.

I'm assuming you meant Holgorsen. No worries it's easy for that to happen 😉

He hired Satterfield
He hired McGuire
He hired Foley
He hired that drunk Texas HS coach
His boss fired Cooper for him
He was blindsided by 105
He was forced by fan uproar and AD reaction to make in-season coaching changes.
He called off a wider DC search because we was blindsided by the defense player exodus.

He hired Satterfield - Annnnnnd????

He hired McGuire - Yeah so he could get in with the Texas HS Coaches

He hired Foley - Hiring fine. Not firing is inexcusable
He hired that drunk Texas HS coach - another Texas HS Football legend hired to create positive PR with Texas football coaches. This is chess.
His boss fired Cooper for him - Huh?
He was blindsided by 105 - So was everyone. The chess move was to stockpile 160 kids so you can pick the best one if the ncaa finally did something
He was forced by fan uproar and AD reaction to make in-season coaching changes. - yeah and played chess with his moves
He called off a wider DC search because we was blindsided by the defense player exodus. - huh!?

yeah I think you'e giving him too much credit for some circumstances he had little control over. No doubt he thought Tony was a short termer but I doubt he hired Butler thinking he actually would be basically forced to promote him because of the timing of the portal and Pot Roast taking half of his DL 2 deep. Butler is qualified. Shorts is qualifed. Simpson is qualified. Bradden is qualified but no way was that in the works before Pot Roast left. Maybe he had a list of guys he kept just in case but I suspect Mozee turned him on to Bradden.

Maybe.

I’m of the opinion he was bringing him regardless since he employed him at the NFL level and promoted him after 1 year.
I do think he's a bright guy and will have a successful coaching career someday. He just wasn't really ready to be a P5 WR coach.

How do you he won’t have a new special teams coach. Maybe the new guy can’t get away from his team right now

That was already the plan when Butler was approched to come here back in July as the only reason he left the Bills was because he passed over by the Bills LB coach for the DC and Butler wanted to be a DC. It was the plan all along once White decided to leave. He wouldn't have actually left the Bills had he not been approched with it and assured as he already had it made in the shade there. He left at the top of his game. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get what you want.

I fully believe little matty promised him the job

It’s kind of his thing

Don't knock it as it's been over a decade now and a ton more coaching experience especially being part of the NFLs best Defense for 6 years straight. I'm willing to give him a chance. It's been said by actual experts that Butler has a higher ceiling than the bunch that were interested in the position here and there were some really good ones including Leonard. Don't hang him before he has a chance to prove himself, only going by what he did with a severly depleted roster after Sandusky. To finish with a 60th ranked defense having a severly decimated roster is pretty amazing with all of the transfers out the door and scholarship reductions leaving not much real talent left on that side of the ball and still managed to finish 60th. Penn State is extremely lucky they didn't get the death penalty over that scandal as it was that bad. Between Sandusky, Paterno and former DONU and at that time current Chancellor Graham Spanier, it was a total shit show. Butler was hired into a very unfair situation being behind the proverbial 8 ball from day 1 after being promoted to DC. He got the best out of what he had left to work with and what he was left with was actually worse than 60th and he got the best he could out of those players that remained and didn't bail.

His defense had 4 NFL guys on it.

Many more than he will have here next year.
