Rhamir vs Anthony...why did it take all year for Rhamir to get some playing time?

There was such a difference in play between the two: Rhamir was reactive and quick to the hole and tough; Anthony (all year) always almost stopped before hitting a hole and thus had a loss or got very little positive yardage (with a few exception of course).

AM I not seeing something here....thoughts and opinions on this?

Johnson was injured a good portion of the season. Grant was better when Allen was healthy. Also just different types of backs. Look at Bijon Robinson at Texas. He runs patiently like Grant, waits for holes to open. Grant just doesn’t have the quick burst and ability to change direction as quickly as Robinson. But they are similar runners.

Look Bijan and Grant are nothing alike.

Also, it's tough to judge Grant when he hadn't seen a hole to run through in three weeks. But in any event, if they can keep Grant and Allen going into next year, that's a damn good start. Add in Erwin and a new recruit and we'll be in decent shape there.

Had some yards against the super cruddy defenses earlier in the year.
The last half of the season he was epic awful yet we kept feeding him the ball in some pathetic hope he'd come around. 14 carries for 6 yards yesterday. Some kind of bad.

Yes. I think the coaches do too since he didn’t see the field after that.

One more reason to get rid of most these coaches as they look incompetent. RJ was 12 for 52 while Grant was 14 for 6. Not only that, but RJ is a much better receiver out of the backfield and best blocker.

is forward progress was stopped the play should have been whistled dead but the officials today like rugby style
His forward progress was not stopped when he fumbled. It was the same type of play as Lavonte David and Braxton Miller. Johnson had a couple good plays but overall he did not make the most of his opportunities when he was put in this year

It was stopped. He was on top of another player on his back when it was stripped.

I had a similar thought about Mauga-Clements, sitting the bench for nearly two years behind Henrich.

He played well yesterday, but that was the exception to how he mostly played.

Grant played great to start the year but when Teddy got hurt our OL took a hit...also have to remember our last 4 games were vs great run defenses. MN, MI, WI, IA

He refused to run north/south many times.
He ran extremely hard early on. Watching him the last two games I was kind of wondering if he had a sore shoulder. Looked to me like he was avoiding some contact. JMO

Anyone who thinks that wasn't a fumble is blind. Sorry, unless his knee was down where we couldn't see it (which I'm fairly sure it wasn't) he definitely fumbled the ball. Tough situation, but you HAVE to make ball security your number one priority in that situation. Above even gaining a few extra yards.

The way people roll over piles, escape tackles, etc., officials are going to give alot of leeway before blowing a play dead. You have to know that and be prepared to have the ball ripped at.

I.e. he wasn't down. If he had somehow rolled off the pile and kept running, you'd be complaining that it was blown dead because he wasn't down. Officials have consistently not been quick on those whistles for awhile now.

Yes by rule it was a fumble. I just can’t blame him too much for that one. He was completely wrapped up and laying on top of another player when the ball was stripped from his arms.

I agree it was a fumble. Whether there was a clear recovery is debatable, but I don't have a problem with that part of the call either. On Petras's early fumble, Iowa could have argued that the defenders stopped pursuing the ball after Head Blind Man Snodgrass insisted Petras was down before the ball came loose. But that call (correctly) went the Huskers' way.

If Grant can get past the line he can break tackles, but he does not have that initial burst to get past a defender in the backfield. Too bad the freshman got hurt. He may have been the best of the bunch.

Grant needs to realize this isnt JUCO football anymore. He isnt going to outrun everybody to the sideline like in youth football. This is Big boy football now. See the hole take it and stop running backwards.

To me, Grant needs to see a much bigger hole before committing. He dips in and tries to get outside which is not going to work against teams the pursue well. Johnson is more of your see a small crease a d slash through it guy with less power.

The poor Ds we played early made Grant looked good, fit his abilities but that train eventually left the station. He didn't all of a sudden change how he ran.
