Ours will be north of a million. Yours - a make-up deal from Mary Kay.wonder what yours and ours will be offered?
Great state. Terrible state government. Stay out of Detroit, Flint and Benton Harbor and you’re goodMichigan is one of the most defective states in the Union. Nice to know the public schools there have a trillion dollars to play with. It's almost like when you have massive corruption you also have massive wealth ...
... almost
Ha this made me laughOurs will be north of a million. Yours - a make-up deal from Mary Kay.
As long as their are fans and some rich boosters...it will last. Once those fans and boosters decide they have had enough...it will end.Doesn’t seem sustainable. Too many guys move up to the next level and flop spectacularly, college and NFL.
Just seems like you’re pushing all your chips in on one kid. Are you gonna recruit a quarterback every year? Will they be paid the same as the first guy? Will the other players think they have a legitimate shot at the job? is there pressure to only play the five star because he got the money? As long as their are fans and some rich boosters...it will last. Yeah, those will be the huge questions that the coaches (and players) have to deal with.Just seems like you’re pushing all your chips in on one kid. Are you gonna recruit a quarterback every year? more likely the courts will be setting "house" parameters. the ncaa is a nutless institution of academic nabobs.Between the ever increasing coaching salaries and the ever increasing cost of the “facilities wars” you can now add in multi million dollar NIL deals for the top players. At what point does college football become economically unviable? I know TV has added billions to the coffers but that only pays for operational expenses and facilities. NIL is private. But soon even NIL will go away in favor of schools just paying athletes directly. Will the NCAA impose salary caps on player pay? If so it will be challenged in court unless they also impose caps on the salaries of coaches.
It is going to get interesting

Look who is learning applied market economics. So proud of you! Jk jkJust seems like you’re pushing all your chips in on one kid. Are you gonna recruit a quarterback every year? I have no idea how good our young talent is on the OL but we need huge improvement next year. If our coaches are good realistic evaluators and they don't think we have the talent, then go buy an OL. Fastest way to turn this ship aroundThese big schools are not going to F*ck around. If they have the money they're going to spend it. Only question is will Nebraska and our leadership keep up? At this point if I was Nebraska I'd easily throw around 10 mil for effective talent on the lines.
Agreed. This and private equity when the athletic departments realize their going to need the capital to keep their balance sheets afloat. It's already an arms race and is only going to get worse. It already is
Even with the huge TV payouts, there are only a handful of athletic depts that turn an annual profit
College sports are entirely beholden to their broadcast partners at this point, and it is those entities that will shape college sports’s future
Buy a tackle for sure. If we could get a LT then move Gottula to RT. JEJ at center. Find a high end FCS guard. I'm leery of taking young transfer lineman. Have any of them worked out on either side of the line? Maybe Jeudy?I have no idea how good our young talent is on the OL but we need huge improvement next year. A fool and his gold are soon partedGoing to have so many broke 23 year olds in a few years selling high end sports cars
No problem with it, but where some of these kids grow up are going to cause lots of issues when presented with cash all of a sudden. At least the money will most likely end up back in the economy.A fool and his gold are soon parted
If they want to pay that, so what? And if the kid spends it poorly. So what?
I think it’s ridiculous but it’s not my money.
We have local kid, from the hood who will start receiving $20k per month from Tennessee. Yes it will ruin more kids than help but it’s good in a sense that they’re sharing the wealth with the folks actually putting in the workNo problem with it, but where some of these kids grow up are going to cause lots of issues when presented with cash all of a sudden. The courts can't and won't do anything. This is a legislative issue involving antitrust law.more likely the courts will be setting "house" parameters. the ncaa is a nutless institution of academic nabobs.
the "house settlement" is one of the courts not the legislative branch. but i agree, at some point congress may step in to bring some sanity to college sports. i too have believed this for a long time. The courts can't and won't do anything. This is a legislative issue involving antitrust law.
In fact, the whole NIL beast (Sam Keller!) was unleashed because of antitrust law. The NCAA can't enforce anything because of that law, and any rules it tries to set/enforce will be struck down. The NCAA would need an antitrust exemption.
Only Congress can fix this and we all know that won't happen.
It's an act of desperation on Michigan's part. There could be chemistry problems surfacing in a program where a new guy gets $5 million and other players are looking at making very little by comparison. But having said that, college football has no salary cap. So the big boys can all pretend to be the Los Angeles Dodgers.Just seems like you’re pushing all your chips in on one kid. Are you gonna recruit a quarterback every year? Will they be paid the same as the first guy? Will the other players think they have a legitimate shot at the job? is there pressure to only play the five star because he got the money?

In case you haven’t noticed, there already aren't a lot of top QBs going anywhere to sit behind anyoneAll very legitimate questions. How the hell do you establish a somewhat healthy QB room? You can’t pay’em all 5 million, and what top QB is gonna want to come sit behind the 5 million dolllar man for less money? Probably a lot less if we’re being totally honest.
CFB needs to get a handle on this NIL situation ASAP. Right now it’s a wild west shit show. Hate the direction things are going and hope CFB can course correct to degree.
