Red Team Takes Opener, 5-0

Lincoln, Neb. – During Game 1 of the annual Nebraska baseball Red-White Series, the Red team won, 5-0, in front of 507 fans at Hawks Field on Friday night.

In the bottom of the third, the Red team scored three runs and never looked back. Freshman Carter Cross, sophomore Alex Henwood and sophomore Jesse Wilkening each produced RBIs for the squad. Cross went 2-for-2 for the game, and was walked in the seventh inning.

Freshman Luke Roskam homered in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Red team a 4-0 advantage. He added a flyout RBI in the bottom of the ninth to extend the lead to 5-0.

Red team starting pitcher Jake Hohensee threw four innings, allowing two hits and no runs. For the game, the Red team had eight hits and one error. The White team had four hits and no errors.

The Red-White Series continues on Sunday with Game 2 (6 innings), set for 7 p.m. (CT) at Hawks Field. The finale of the three-game series will be Tuesday (7 innings) at 4 p.m.

Every game of the series is open to the public and free to attend. Gates will open roughly 60 minutes prior to game time. Concessions will be available at Haymarket Park on a limited basis.
