SO! It looks like we need 8 more players to fill out our class at the number Riley wanted.

According to 247 sports, we should absolutely land Jamire Calvin, who will technically be the highest-rated of the three receiver commits, all of whom are 4 stars at at least one recruiting service. That is absolutely a good haul.

Thoughts on the other 7:

Joseph Lewis: Are we getting this guy and his buddy Greg Johnson, or are they both going to USC, as 247 Sports is indicating? We could absolutely use both and both are elite like we haven't seen in years.

Damion Daniels: This DT has been waiting for lord knows what to pull the trigger on us. Do we still get him? If so, that makes 4 defensive linemen. Also not a bad haul.

Darrian Felix: Aparently, a highly sought-after 3 star running back that we've made the top 5 with. He's visiting later in January. Do we land him?

Other elite maybes:

D. Lenoir, F. Sarrell, R. Beal. Do we land any of these guys?

Who else is on our radar?

Oh, and I'd also like to mention that if we do get 22 commits, we absolutely should be a top 25 class, maybe top 20 even.

No idea on if theres 8 more commits out there. I do feel if we land a big one early our class could steamroll a bit and end up around 18 or so in ranking.

Nobody on here knows for sure about any of those guys. Heck, the recruits themselves may not know yet where they will end up.
I just hope we end with some solid kids who can contribute. If we land 4 and 5 star dudes then that would be fantastic. But if we round out the class with a solid collection of three star kids with great attitudes and a desire to bust their asses, then I am happy

Lewis is USC. Johnson most likely USC.

Calvin is N

Daniels is a mystery but a big need I would guess N.

Felix if we can get him to visit I would feel good about him.

Lenior probably no but still a shot, Foster no, Beal no
My opinion is we end up high 20s in final rankings

This based on stuff you know or from looking at crystal ball predictions?

I'm going to go ahead and say we don't land any of the OP's mentioned prospects except for maybe Daniels....then where would that leave us?

Talking to Chip Kelly should be part of the recruiting process.

See where his head is at?

These guys who are considering USC would have to excited about having a QB throw the ball to you knowing he still has three more years to play.

Maybe... could go pro if he has a monster season next year as a redshirt sophomore...

But yes, that would be enticing if I were a receiver.

How many other WR croots does USC have committed? I imagine Lewis wants to be the crown jewel croot wherever he goes. I really feel like he's N. The ideal (and somewhat realistic) closeout would be:

Joseph Lewis
Greg Johnson
Foster Sarrell
Robert Beal
Elijah Blades
CJ Verdell
Jamire Calvin

Even landing 2 of those dudes would be awesome, but we have a legit chance with all of them.

We do have a legit chance with all of them, and that is progress from the Pelini years. Unfortunately, I doubt we get more than one of these guys. We really need to have more on the field success in order for us to start landing more of these types of athletes. Next year is a huge year for Riley.

The prospect of immediate playing time is a big draw for some of these elite guys. But if immediate playing time was the predominant factor in recruiting, then tons of mediocre programs would be getting more of these recruits. The fact remains that most of these guys want to play for a program that wins, is on the national stage every year, and puts lots of guys in the NFL. We have pro caliber coaches with pro experience. We will be running a pro style offense much more now in the future. So if we can add to that mixture (along with our facilities, tradition, and fan support) actually winning big games and being nationally relevant, we will recruit well again.

So this year may be another so-so year in recruiting. And that is ok so long as we fill out our class with guys who will contribute. But we need to turn the corner in our on the field product next year.

If Nebraska gets Calvin, Daniels and 7 average 3 star recruits it would give them 2001 points which would have ranked in the top 20 in the previous 3 recruiting classes

All I care is that we're not scrambling to fill our class out, and do so with reaches like Bo and Co. did every effing year. If we have a lot of misses late, I'm going to be pissed.

Exactly. Even if we don't get any of the big dogs we are after here late, I will be content so long as the coaches have really good plan B options in place and we don't panic and get a bunch of nothings at the end.

Lewis' little brother is already committed to USC as an FYI
Actually it is Greg Johnson's little brother. I think that G. Johnson is more likely to go where Lewis goes than were his little bro is, of course they could all three end up at USC.

Just as a quick FYI, 247 Sports posted a lot of USC predictions for Lewis and Johnson, but two fresh ones to Nebraska just posted. It will be interesting to see how the momentum moves throughout the week; I would LOVE to see both come here, plus it looks like a sure thing that we're getting Calvin.

On top of that, we need Daniels. As far as I can tell, every other recruit after that would just be icing in the cake.

A word on immediate playing time: I do think that is a HUGE draw for Lewis, who is looking to play from day 1 and be the star of a program. At USC, he totally could play, but my guess is they already have a starting core of WR's plus new recruits. He's probably thinking, well, I could get lost in the mix or not even start shining for another year or two. At Nebraska, a program trending up, he could walk in and start being the star receiver immediately, playing with Lee and O'Brien.

I think Johnson would come here both to play with Lewis and to work with Donte Williams, which is what he wanted to do from the get-go. Also, while we don't really need safeties right now, getting an ELITE level CB into the program right now is a very smart idea.

I guess what I am saying is, we had a fairly successful year that petered out at the end due to injuries and, personally, I think player focus dropped, but we're still trending up, recruiting well, and we're still a powerful enough program to land guys like this. All it takes is 1 or 2 excellent classes and we're off to the races.

They also better realize that they might not get to play until he's gone with their WR depth chart. We have definitely got a "WR help needed immediately" sign hanging in our window.

True statement, pair that along with the bowl performance and the neon vacancy sign should be shining bright in Lincoln for multiple spots up for position battles.
It's highly questionable to me that we don't have our class RB yet as of 1/3/17. That's a whole other topic entirely but I did not understand our RB rotation this year or why we relied on Newby who was playing injured in the bowl game

We will be thin in quality running backs next year. Bryant has real potential. But Ozigbo lacks speed and shake and bake. Wilbon? Geez, who the heck knows? The dude has flashes of talent, but there must be a reason he rarely sees the field. So yeah, I am puzzled by the fact we do not have any commits here yet and seem to be putting all our recruiting efforts into flipping one or two guys. Maybe our coaches know we have a real shot at succeeding in that. But it is worrisome

This is the position everyone seems to be ignoring and honestly it scares the sh*t out of me. 3 scholarship RBs right now going into 2017. RBs always are a threat to get injured. Oz has already shown he carries a bit of the injury bug that so many RBs never seem to shake. All I know is this staff better get with it and figure out WTF it's doing with recruiting RBs.

If 2 RBs go down next year and we have to play a walk-on, none of the BS talk about Bo leaving it thin. That will be 100% on this staff. It's embarrassing how this staff handles the numbers. Almost comical. Up until now they've had an "out" / excuse. But no more. No more talk about the prior staff leaving anything bare. Going forward its all on the current staff. Time for them to Man up and do it right. Or maybe we can freaking recruit another 3-star LB. 12 freaking LBs on scholarship next year? Really? Glad Bray can recruit, just wish some others could to.

And guess what Greg hasn't committed to USC yet... anyone think there may be a reason?

And to the guy that is spouting off "King Inside info" El blahblahblah or what ever your screen name is. To say we don't have a shot at any of them other than Calvin is laughable. I am not saying we will land more than one of them "guaranteed", but for you to talk like we won't for SURE is pretty damn bold.

In my opinion we will land multiple on that list and as I said in a previous post

I'm going to bring out the non pessimistic big red22

Looking at that board, and seeing 5 CB's that are highly rated makes me feel like there may be knowledge that we already know who is coming to NU. Jaylon Johnson and Thomas Graham going elsewhere really got me flustered.

I am making a prediction, and it is based off my gut feeling. I honestly think that Greg Johnson, Joseph Lewis and Darnay Holmes are going to be Nebraska football players. The 247 predictions are based on Greg Johnson's 2018 brother committing to USC, I just feel that has little relevance to where these two are going (Joseph Lewis and Greg Johnson). Darnay Holmes may be a pipe dream, but it could be possible that he has been committed to Nebraska since June, and the official visit and in-homes were not needed.

I know that may be crazy, but I want to look at our recruiting in a positive light, and look at the remaining prospects as real possibilities.

I know it sounds absolutely crazy to predict this, but it somewhat makes sense. Why are these other CB's are going elsewhere? That Big Board looks real good. The only Calabraska connections that have committed somewhere else is Thomas Graham, Jaylon Redd and Jaylon Johnson... They are all CB's

I am just saying there is a lot of the Calabraska connection left on that board, and a lot of them will be in the the Army All American game, and deciding there.

With that said I have $20 says we sign more than just Calvin from that list

I agree that next year's RB class is on this staff... And for whatever reason, they still don't have anybody on board yet this year. That may (hopefully will) change before next month, we will see.

I do think, apart from RB, this staff has done a pretty good job balancing the numbers, for the most part. It sure seems like they at least have a plan in place. We obviously need more DLine help, and hopefully that shows up by next month as well. Again, we will see how all of this shakes out.

I too share a concern about our running back recruiting, as stated above. But it ain't over yet. If after loi signing day we still haven't recruited a quality back, then I will be officially pissed

And why does someone who says he is a Husker fan take as his screen name "Elroberson"? A KSU QB?? Nuts

If I remember correctly, when ER came on the board, he was actually a Riley / OSU fan, who really felt good about Riley coming to Nebraska and turning things around here. I think he is more a Riley fan than a husker fan, although his husker fandom might be growing...

I have been puzzled by some of his posts, but as soon as I think he has been playing us and slowly creeping toward troll status, he comes back with his full support. So I just don't know what to think.

Greg Johnson plays RB too, I've read at a few places we are recruiting him as a RB first DB second. <- Not fact just read on here
