Three weeks ago our 2018 class looked to have the possibility of being a top ten class. SO what are the 11 commits and the potential 9 more going to do? What would you do if you were a top notch player and you are watching what is happening? It is very possible that the Huskers win 4 or 5 games this year; not exactly what 4 star recruits were hoping for now. Minnesota and Northwester are not sure wins at all as is Iowa. Wisconsin will be a heavy favorite; forget about Penn State or Ohio State; they will be an embarrassment. So what is left; Rutgers makes it 2 and 2.

Unless a miracle happens I don't see how Riley survives this year leaving the recruits shaking their head because along with Diaco and Williams coach Riley is the best recruiter. To win in the BIG you have to play mean and with purpose like other winners like Alabama, Oklahoma, etc. Do you think Nick Saban would accept the performance, lack of effort and meaness that we should require.

I don't have the answers but am sure not looking forward to another rebuilding. The players reflect their coach. Coach Rile is a very well like but very average coach. How can you praise your players with three sub part performance; why is the Offensive line coach still here? How embarrassed should the Offensive Lineman for the 90's be. Our players lack confidence, don't play with a mean streak and maybe can't.

What to do??

Prepare yourself for this class completely falling apart. These kids were coming mostly because of the staff. It's going to get ugly.

It all depends. Does Riley survive? If not how does it go down, who is hired and which assistants stay? If the Williams stay, I think all their recruits will too.

You can't make decisions based on what 18 year olds are doing. I hope people like Bookie play here but I'm more worried about the next 20-25 years of Nebraska football.

That being said, unless this season completely falls apart I don't think HCMR will be fired. He will have to make some changes but I think this is still going in the right direction. I love the entire defensive staff. Put some points up and we will still win some ball games.

Three weeks ago it looked like we were going to have a top 10 class? Where are you getting this?

Our momentum fell off recently.
If Riley can win 9 games or even 8, which we still have the chance to do, albeit unlikely, the momentum could pick back up.
If what we saw against NIU continues, who cares who we would have gotten, because it would show that the staff wouldn't prepare them anyway.

People it is possible to have a coach who puts a well coached team on the field AND recruits well AND doesn't piss his pants. It's possible.
And that doesn't mean I expect a NC every other year like some posters like to make it sound.

If Riley does get canned, they better have a Chris Petersen type coach that has an extensive track record, ala Gary Peterson. None of this BS new up and comers like Frost or Fleck.

If the latter two are the type of options they are choosing from, it would be wise to hold on and keep Riley until something better arises.

It should begin and end with Dan Mullen IMO

Who would that be? Inquiring minds want to know. I seriously have no idea, even if I did have my pick of the liter.

Does Mullen want to leave Starkville? I mean...he had them #1 and Saban only has a few years left, if that.

I think he wants out and will leave very soon. I can see him getting serious interest from schools like ATM, UCLA, Florida and......Nebraska

The problem for Nebraska is that we aren't even 3rd on that list. We aren't even as attractive as Ole Miss.

You might be right about the first part, but you've got to be kidding about Ole Miss, stop the self deprivation, Nebraska can be a GREAT job.

People you can't hire and fire a coach every 4-5years and expect someone to WANT job, I think give Riley one more year and this year he gets rid of Cavs, this is starting to sound a lot like Frank and PEDERDICK, he got rid of coaches then got the axe, we can't be a revolving door with coaches, sorry it just can't happen if we want success in the future, I get we got beat by a team that we had no business losing too, but in the long run no coach will want to come here because if they don't win right away they are going to get canned, be realistic with this and think about the future, we got good kids coming in we just need a few good coaches to coachem up.

Mullen (from a results standpoint) is like Franklin on steroids except he's not a douche. That would be an amazing hire. Recruits in a tough league, develops talent, wins games

I agree with you. Not sure he would leave the south but one never knows.

Gary Pattersen or bust.

Gary ain't going anywhere imho-- I live here and he got a statue for goodness sakes. More importantly his wife is a TEXAN and loves Ft. Worth- nuff said for those of us that married Texas girls.

We keep doing our best to recruit to the program: academics, athletics, life skills, facilities, etc. continue to sell the school.
