Man if I’m a college coach who has a chance to take an NFL job, I’m taking it in heartbeat over a college position. I can’t imagine having to suck up to 16-22 year olds to recruit and try to keep my roster intact. It’s a 24/7/365 job. 🙄
Wasn’t that Saban already?I'm wondering how long it might be before we hear of a big name college coach stepping down because, "This is not the same game I signed up for."
After his retirement, Saban said that during his last season, "maybe 70 or 80 percent of the players you talk to, all they want to know is two things: What assurances do I have that I'm going to play because they're thinking about transferring; and how much are you going to pay me?"Wasn’t that Saban already?

I bet if you could get Mike Cryzetschekee to be completely candid he’d say the same thing. Hell T.O. would probably say something similar, landscape changed on him going into the new Big XII run by texass. In the end, when you finally crack the code to winning at the highest level and then “they” change all the locks; I’d dip out too if I was already at retirement age.
“More comfortable”I agree but maybe in a case like ours a HC like Ruhle who has seen both sides still might seem more comfortable in college
Again though I agree with u.
Holla
I don’t think he will get another shot at 8 million per year in the NFL.I agree but maybe in a case like ours a HC like Ruhle who has seen both sides still might seem more comfortable in college

Roughly one mile. Uphill both ways. They should have given us dogsleds. 😉. I get the money, but if you can get the same money and not have to recruit? No brainer....and while you're at it would you kindly tell us how many miles you walked to school in the snow when you were a kid, uphill both ways of course!!
...i'm with ya, but college coaches now are signing 10-20mil contracts, or more. So i'd be willing to do it.
Saban bailed after it became ok for other schools to pay players. Weird how much harder is it to win national titles when everyone is paying players.Wasn’t that Saban already?

Difference is having the highest payroll among a dozen or so vs. dozens. Expanded playoff and NIL weren't good for Saban. Not random that he bailed when he did.The team with the highest payroll won last year.
Same as it ever was.
He’s also 73 and has a net worth north of 70 million. He would be stupid to keep coaching. Go live a littleSaban bailed after it became ok for other schools to pay players. Weird how much harder is it to win national titles when everyone is paying players.
Jay WrightLet’s not forget Roy Williams at UNC, Mike Krzyzewski at Duke, Chip Kelly leaves UCLA for an offensive coordinator position.

Nah. It came out of nowhere. Guy like Saban was going to coach forever. The path to NC's got much more difficult with NIL, expanded playoff, Texas joining the SEC. The days of Bama getting the benefit of the doubt and automatically getting into a 4 team playoff were over.I think he was the oldest coach in D-1 when he stepped down?? IIRC?? Guessing that was tye main driver...it was just time. NIL was more of a coincidence.

Great coach, obviously, but his built in advantages were over.
I disagree. Prior to the last few years Bama always got the benefit of being Bama. Once in, they only had to win 2 games. They also had the benefit of having a top 2 or 3 roster.Expanded playoff helped 'Bama, with their name, they get in with 3 losse. Texas joining SEC had zilcho to do with Nick hanging it up. He was old and tired of the grind, and the fact he was the oldest coach kinda means he did coach forever.
Maybe but unless it’s a major health event it’s usually multiple factors NIL and transfers no doubt was a factor but you get to be that financially secure at that age and most guys start to ask themselves why. I understand that completely. I also understand guys who LOVE what they’re doing and never want to quit. Sometimes you just lose the fire.Nah. It came out of nowhere. I would be more likely to believe it was his wife's health if he didnt seem so bitter about NIL. Which I think is hypocritical coming from a Bama coach. His wife suffered a major health event, as well
That was what pushed him into retirement more than anything
It was reported on at the time
Money corrupted this program long before NIL. Lots of people being paid by the program that don’t have crap to do with winning football games.Money corrupts. College sports is no different than any other entity in which the almighty dollar reigns supreme.
It's a sad state of affairs.
You don’t think Bama players were getting paid before NIL?Money corrupted this program long before NIL. Lots of people being paid by the program that don’t have crap to do with winning football games.
If anything NIL is more honest cause at least the money goes to the people winning and losing the games
You don’t think Bama players were getting paid before NIL?
You don’t think NU players were getting paid before NIL?You don’t think Bama players were getting paid before NIL?
I have no doubt that Vince and BC were offering enticements. Our recruiting since then wouldn’t lead one to believe we were paying players under the table. You don’t think NU players were getting paid before NIL?
I would bet there hasn’t been a single season in the last 3.5 decades when NU players weren’t receiving at least some form of inadmissible benefit.I have no doubt that Vince and BC were offering enticements. I assume he has his support staff handle that.
