If you look at immediately being in the rotation as a MAJOR factor in recruiting 4-5 star players, here's what I see for us in 2017.
QB - We're not looking and no other big time player is interested since we seem to be set in 2017-2018 and probably into the future. May be a good time to pick up a walk-on QB or 2 for scout team duties.
RB - With Ozigbo, Wilbon, and Bryant in the program and all underclassmen, it seems like it would be hard to convince a top level freshman for 2017 to come in this class (not counting Miles)
TE - It would seem that with the QB horsepower we have in the system now, an the fact that we lose all three TEs that will likely play a lot this year, that this would be a very attractive situation for a top level TE. We don't seem to be hearing about a lot of prospects.
WR - Great year to get WRs as we lose 3 top players after this year. Adding Lewis to the haul already committed would do just fine. You can sell the fact that a lot of WRs are used every year.
OL - We have 3 solid commits now, and getting a top level OT on top of that will be a tall order from an immediate playing time standpoint when you consider that our top 4 OTs in 2017 will be a RS Freshman, a RS Sophomore, a Junior returning starter and a Senior returning starter. We really don't need to recruit any other guards or centers as this crew is really young overall with returning starters at both guard positions in 2017 and the best of the bunch returning from injury.
DT - Another tall order, considering that we will have 4 of the 5 DTs that will start or play a lot this year returning in 2017 (2 Sophomores and 2 Juniors). It would be great if we could get "that guy" who could be the 5th in the rotation as a true freshman, but there's no 2017 star that would push past Mick or the Davis' in 2017. I would like to see a another solid freshman commit who would RS with Thomas and if we can't get the big LSU commit to flip, perhaps a decent JUCO DT to be 5th in the rotation for 2017.
DE - As weak as we seem to think we are here, we will have 2 RS Freshman, 2 Sophomores, and 2 Juniors in 2017 (one a returning starter) standing in the way of immediate playing time. We already have commitments from 2 Freshman, getting a third in this traffic jam will be hard from an immediate playing time standpoint unless he's a 5 star pass rusher.
LB - Kind of the same as WR, as a lot can play. I love the 2 we have so far and we probably can convince another highly ranked player to come.
CB - It may prove difficult here to attract some star talent, considering we will likely have 2 senior returning starters, Lee, Jackson, Bootle, and Dismuke to get around for playing time in 2017.
S - Holmes could be attracted by the graduation of Gerry, But there is a lot of young talent (A. Williams, K. Williams, Anderson, Butler, and Domann) in the way here.
K/P - No chance of recruiting a big time player for 2017. We already have that piece in place for 2016 and 2017+.
Seems like, from an immediate playing time perspective, our best bets are at WR, TE, LB, and FS. I like the fact that now we seem to have the flexibility to be more selective and have many positions where we don't need immediate help either as a starter or to provide depth. Particularly happy with QB, WR, OL, RB, LB, CB, and FS.
