Impossible for me to not cheer for this young man. Loved his interview today, refused to talk trash about the prior staff despite the reporter gaining him opportunity after opportunity. Focused responses on himself, truly a class act young man. Cheering for you with everything I’ve got!

A player with as much heart as anyone. In 2021 he was basically asked to put his head down and accept the fact whatever manifestation of a hole he'd have would immediately close and he gave it his all despite not being that kind of back. Then he spent last year on the bench behind a guy who wouldn't take one for the team. I don't know what kind of role he'll play this year but I wish him every success.

He plays a ton IMO. Rhule will like having guys with that type of attitude on the field.
His drop vs illinois last year cost us at least 2 wins

Agreed, but I'm tossing out all prior performances and chalking it up to Frost. Everyone gets a fresh start until they piss me off the next time.
I was JUST thinking, "Wait, wasn't this the guy that dropped a wide open pass against someone that cost NU the game?" I couldn't remember who it was against. Now I know.
Still, I wish him the best and hope he sees the field more this year.

OP is saying that because the very next play is where Casey got hurt and missed multiple games , if Casey stays healthy we best Minnesota and Wisconsin, Casey played against Wisconsin but was Rusty.

First of all, Rahmir dropped a pass on 1st & 10, with Nebraska leading Illinois 9-6 at 7:24 in the 2nd quarter. Rahmir wasn't going to score on the play, the safety was 3 steps from ending Rahmir's life had he caught the ball. It should've been a nice 18 yard gain. This is not from memory, it's still in the DVR of my YTTV account so I went back and watched it.
On second down Grant did his usual job of losing a yard by dancing laterally instead of getting the 3-5 yards that was easily there had he run through the hole that was there. Then, on 3rd & 11 Mickey decided to throw deep from our own 30 knowing that Illinois would bring pressure. Oh, and he called a timeout to make sure Walters had plenty of time to dial up his best blitz. He could've (should've) stayed conservative in 9-6 game and ran the ball and punted, but instead ran Grant on a pattern out of the backfield and left no one to block the linebacker that ended CT's season. Whoever called that play got CT murdered. And... I'd be remiss to not mention that CT was throwing off his back foot to a receiver that wasn't even open.
Nebraska sucked last year. There was no "one play" that was the fulcrum that the season balanced on. Every QB that played last year got murdered because the o-line was terrible and the play calling was terrible.

And his fumble late in the game against Iowa was almost as bad. Fortunately, we were able to hold them out of the end zone on their final possession so that the fumble wasn't as costly as it could have been.
I remember a right tackle giving an extreme minimal effort to block an end who just came barreling in at our qb and brutalized Thompson as this right tackle, hands on hips, stood there and watched while the play was still live.

Still, dude should’ve been on the field more last season. Add that to the list of should haves from the last 8 years or so.
RJ should have seen the field a ton more last year just for the simple fact he is the best pass blocking RB on the team. He isn’t our biggest back but he knows how to position himself to pick up a blitz or knock a DE off course
RB room seems to be in good shape with four guys that can play. The question is Johnson and Ives. Does either one carve out a niche role early? Do they stay and develop if they don't play right away?

I suspect the young Johnson will be in the portal eventually. Don’t think he fits what Rhule wants.
Wasn’t there a drop against Minnesota also on a wheel route that was basically the difference between winning and losing ?
That said though I think they messed him up trying to be a receiver. Keep him at running back full time.
