I hope your right, you have more faith in him than a lot of us. My biggest issue i don’t see the line move forward on running plays they don’t seem to be engaging more like just stand up and try pushingFrom a linebacker coach to DC is a pretty big jump. Raiola has been on the job for about 20 months and only has one full class of freshmen recruits. I think he’ll get it done.
They’ opened some huge holes in the run game against Illinois. On the one TD run HH didn’t get touched until the goal line.I hope your right, you have more faith in him than a lot of us. My biggest issue i don’t see the line move forward on running plays they don’t seem to be engaging more like just stand up and try pushing
Humanity insists that you walk that back.If he coached at Westside now, he’d have EXTENSIVE recruiting experience.
That program is starting to make Bellevue West coaches look like Kirk Ferentz.
Yes, we were penalized. IMO, they didn't follow the intent of the rule. The intent is to not imitate the cadence of the offense. What Reimer was penalized for was clapping to get his teammate's attention. MN didn't use a clap in the snap count/cadence. If they didn't utilize clapping for the snap, then clapping by the defense should be allowed. If they did use clapping for the snap, then verbal commands should be allowed.Wasn’t Nebraska penalized on defense against Minnesota for the same sh-t ?
As I re-watch the IL game, I see a number of plays where the OL opened a nice hole but the TE coming across on a "trap" block completely whiffs and we get stopped for little to no gain. I counted a handful of those in just the 1st half. The other thing I noticed is that AG still seems a little hesitant to trust the OL and that hesitation destroys any blocks. Keep in mind their 2 DL are Sunday guys. Were there plays that one of the OL whiffed or missed his block? Absolutely! But as I re-watched I didn't notice as many of those as I thought. The TE misses were much more noticeable, IMO. There was one play in particular where Benhart was pushing the DE down the line because he wasn't able to be his head in front & AG should have cut back but didn't. Benhart maintained contact the whole time but his guy did end up making the tackle. At first glance you put the blame on 54 but I think he did his job by driving his guy where he could.I hope your right, you have more faith in him than a lot of us. I agree. That Lindemeyer kid also doesn't seem to want to engage contact much. Would be nice to get the fullback back in the mix, but I think he may be injured. As I re-watch the IL game, I see a number of plays where the OL opened a nice hole but the TE coming across on a "trap" block completely whiffs and we get stopped for little to no gain. Jamayel PhillipsAt the tail end of his career Uncle Milty signed a huge lineman that he called "The Big Smooth" (name I do not remember, Phillips?) that was to be the next Outland winner. Anyway, The Big Smooth did not have any significant contributions on the field and the Pipeline and Nebraska Football started leaking oil and about that Frank went 7-7 gave up 62 to Colorado fired all of Tom's defensive coaches and brought Mark Pellini into Nebraska football and legend hood.
Just to clarify, we gave up 62 to Colorado in 2001, went 7-7 in 2002 and then fired the coaches to bring in Bo.and about that Frank went 7-7 gave up 62 to Colorado fired all of Tom's defensive coaches and brought Mark Pellini into Nebraska football and legend hood.
Nice catch.Just to clarify, we gave up 62 to Colorado in 2001, went 7-7 in 2002 and then fired the coaches to bring in Bo.
We have improved a lot on the OL like it or not.the false starts, the personal fouls
it’s one thing for your position group to be a laughing stock, it’s another to do so while also being so undisciplined you can’t string together 6 plays without committing a penalty
we all know why he was retained. that ship has sailed. time to hire someone who knows what the F he’s doing up front
based on what?We have improved a lot on the OL like it or not.
A 3-3 record for one thing.based on what?
give me something tangible
We’ve seen some huge running lanes at times especially for Haarberg. That just didn’t happen because of Haarberg’s Incredible speed. My God though he really should tryout for the Olympic team.A 3-3 record for one thing.
Doing okay, how? His unit is dogshit.Seems to be doing OK with what he has there to work with.
Rhule seems plenty capable of picking good assistant coaches.
The longer he's here, the shorter Rhule's leash will get.Regardless of how anybody feels about Raiola, he’s here and he’s staying here until Rhule says otherwise. He now has 9 months under his belt coaching the way Rhule wants his line coached. He’s got 20+ months developing relationships with recruits. He’s been getting our foot in the door of linemen in places we haven’t seen since Frank was canned. IMO that will pay off in the long run.
Again, just my opinion, but I would like to see what he can do with his freshmen class. We’re short handed at LT but the rest of the O linemen have made strides.
You’ve said that about every O line coach we’ve had since Milt retired.Doing okay, how? His unit is dogshit.
Some people that call themselves Nebraska fans seem to live for bitching and bashing rather than a win. If we beat Northwestern next week the bitching and bashing will really cut loose. If we run the table out they will still be bitching and bashing because we didn't lay the wood to Michigan at home.So many O line coaching experts on this board. 🙄. I’ve never seen so much bitching and bashing after a win in which our QB and RBs gave the ball to the other team so many times. Forget about the fumble HH recovered. Never mind the balls that really should have been picked. We won. Wah Wah Wah.
He's completely changed how benhardt plays. I'm sure you thought he should be cut from the team altogether last season. Now he's gonna get a look from the NFL.Doing okay, how? His unit is dogshit.
Piper is another than seems vastly different. The last few years our OL was being pushed backward as a unit. This year they are holding their ground if not pushing the DL back. He's completely changed how benhardt plays. I'm sure thought he should be cut from the team altogether lasy season. Other than false starts our biggest problem is that our LT is playing out of position. Guys that constantly complain about our O line must not watch any other football.Piper is another than seems vastly different. The last few years our OL was being pushed backward as a unit. We can’t pass protect with 5. We need 6 and 7 just to get to the top of a drop.Other than false starts our biggest problem is that our LT is playing out of position. Guys that constantly complain about our O line must not watch any other football.
Whatever you think. It’s no different than Mahommes, Jackson or Burrow having to run for their lives on many pass plays. Teams know we struggle to pass so they’re more than willing to commit guys to the run and pass rush. It’s one of the reasons we need better WRs and QBs.We can’t pass protect with 5. We need 6 and 7 just to get to the top of a drop.
We can’t consistently run the ball out if any formation
Our line doesn’t allow us to do anything we see in “other football”
Got me curious so I looked up the game by game stats on Huskers.com for the first 6 games for 2022 & 2023. Here’s a few that I looked at & accumulated:based on what?
give me something tangible
biggest difference, by far:Got me curious so I looked up the game by game stats on Huskers.com for the first 6 games for 2022 & 2023. Here’s a few that I looked at & accumulated:
2022
Rushing yards, net: 961
Avg YPC: 3.9
TFL allowed: 31.5
Sacks allowed: 15.5
2023
Rushing yards, net: 1203
Avg YPC: 5.0
TFL allowed: 31
Sacks allowed: 14
Obviously, the TFL & Sack yards come off the rushing totals. Based on this info, it appears there hasn’t been much improvement in pass pro (fewer attempts), but there has been decent improvement in run blocking. Stats don’t always tell the whole story but do provide a measure.
Then add in Thompson’s passing yards.biggest difference, by far:
Thompson/Purdy/Chubba in 2022, Haarberg in 2023
you want to get an idea, remove QB run stats
and before you say "the line is opening holes for HH!", keep in mind he was hit at or behind the line on many of his big runs
also with the QB run game, you're 11 on 11 instead of 10 on 11 last year in the traditional run game
Do we get to add a dude that can take the top off of NFL defenses and a qb that can get him the ball?biggest difference, by far:
Thompson/Purdy/Chubba in 2022, Haarberg in 2023

Also, you got a link to that stat or is that just from your best recollection from watching the game?and before you say "the line is opening holes for HH!", keep in mind he was hit at or behind the line on many of his big runs
would make it seem an awful lot like this line has gotten worse, not betterThen add in Thompson’s passing yards.
Nope, always supported Cotton. Every coach since Cotton has been dogshit. You’ve said that about every O line coach we’ve had since Milt retired.
Why not just let history be as glory of Nebraska Football? Why continue to want to fire every Coach who was not on the staff of the Solich & Pellini era that dominated college football just like Dr Tom? I like this 2023 team.Nope, always supported Cotton. Every coach since Cotton has been dogshit.
So a change in scheme has also contributed to the improvement we’ve seen.biggest difference, by far:
